chapter four: lifted mood

1694 Words
"Zoey," The queen said sitting on the side of the bathtub but I didn't spare her a glance, it was her fault! My life was this miserable because she didn't want me! And my mate----- how could he do this to me? Why me of all people?! Tears streamed down my cheeks but I didn't even bother to wipe them away. This was the worst moment to be alive. "Kaira, what happened?" I heard that all so familiar voice that belonged to non other than aunt Melissa. I looked up, and she was standing by the door way, with her eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Um she----" Queen Kaira stood up and walked towards aunt Melissa, adding, "she locked herself in the bathroom, and we thought that ----" The queen let her sentence hung staring at me and I knew what she wanted to say, she probably thought that I was going to commit suicide which didn't seem like a bad idea. Aunt Melissa widened her eyes in realisation, and she walked over to me. She lightly shook her head and smiled at me, sitting where Queen Kaira was earlier sitting. All the while, my eyes never left hers. There was something about her that intrigued me but I'm not sure what, But one thing I knew for sure was that there was something in her eyes, something that I couldn't pinpoint. "How are you feeling love?" she asked smiling lightly while playing with my hair. I sniffed, and she wiped away the tears that had fallen. Having this sudden urge to tell her everything that just transpired a few minutes ago, I spoke, "Mate," More tears fell from my eyes but all she did was give me a confused look followed by exchanging looks with Queen Kaira. "Mate raped me again," A loud gasp escaped her lips, and she covered her mouth staring at me wide open eyes while the queen took a step back looking like she was going to faint anytime soon. "What --- what do you --- your --- your mate did this?" Aunt Melissa asked her eyes still widened and I nodded my head lowering my gaze not willing to look at her because I knew that just like everyone else, she was going to start looking at me with pity and I didn't want that. "Oh my gosh this --- this is worse than I thought and---" she suddenly stopped talking, but I didn't look her way. I didn't want to see her pity me! "Um the water is pretty cold," she spoke after a few seconds of silence, I looked at her and I could see she was trying so hard to stop herself from freaking out, " why don't you get out and wear something warm, Hmm," I nodded my head, and she helped me out of the bathing tub, wrapped a towel around my naked body and lead me to the bedroom where the king was pacing around looking frustrated while uncle Dean just stood there looking as calm as ever, it seemed this couple was good at hiding their emotions. As soon as the king saw us, he stopped pacing around and looked at me but I averted my gaze, he was an enemy in my books and I didn't want anything to do with him. "Let's give her some privacy," the queen said and minutes later she, the king and uncle Dean left the room, leaving me and aunt Melissa. I looked at aunt Melissa wondering why she wasn't leaving only to find her smiling lightly at me. Why was she smiling? "I want you to wear something special for dinner today. I'm preparing a special meal and you won't guess what I'm making," she excitedly said. "What?" I mouthed intrigued to know what she was making. "Rice balls or aka Arancini," I couldn't help but sniff, smiling lightly remembering how mom always made me Arancini whenever I was sad and upset about something. It always lifted mood. Rice balls where my favorite and as if on Que, my stomach instinctively growled reminding me that I hadn't had a meal in almost 48hours. How am I even alive despite staying without food for this long? I shyly looked away placing a strand of hair behind my ear feeling embarrassed. "Let me help you get dressed yeah. What do you want to wear? You know when I heard that you were coming over, I went shopping and I got you an entire closet of clothes!" She assessed me a bit while I kept on looking at her. "I think they will fit come chose the one you like yeah," She led me to the walk in closet and it was indeed filled with clothes. Thirty minutes later, I was standing in front of the mirror with my hair braided on the side and nicely brushed. I wore a high waist blue short with a Black cropped top. I looked good even though my heart didn't feel so good. "Awww my niece looks so beautiful, you are the most beautiful girl on the planet and so blessed," she said followed by kissing my forehead and all I did was look away not willing to meet her eyes but I bet my cheeks where heating up right now. "Let's go have dinner else it will get cold," she said leading the way and I followed closely behind. When we approached the dining room there was a lot of ongoing chatter with laughter but as soon as we entered the room, all of it died down and everyone looked at me with the same look, Pity! I took a step back about to go but aunt Melissa held my hand. "Seriously you guys?" She said looking at everyone. "Can't you all for once just act normal and pretend like nothing happened? I'm sooo sick and tired of you all giving the girl the same looks like come on let the girl breath!" She scolded and everyone else went about chatting with each other but it wasn't as loud as it was the first time we walked in. Aunt led me to the table and made me sit between her and uncle Dean who lightly smiled too. "Here you go my baby," she placed a plate of rice balls in front of me with a juicy looking steak, my favorite. Without even wasting time, I dug into the food while she poured me a glass of juice. In no time, the plate was cleaned up. "Should I add more?" she asked and without shame, I nodded my head which made her grin widely. "I'm guessing you like my cooking huh," she said adding more food to my plate while I nodded digging in. I mean the rice balls weren't the way my mom prepared them, but they were still tasty with a different type of tastiness. Once dinner was done, I wanted to go back to my room but aunt Melissa practically dragged me to the TV room where an action movie was playing. I actually enjoyed the movie and it momentarily made me forget all about what happened, And thanks to aunt Melissa's scolding, no one was giving me a look of pity. The movie ended and everyone went to their various rooms while aunt Melissa led me to mine. She tucked me into bed, kissed me goodnight and left while I sighed staring at the ceiling, Being alone brought back the pain I was feeling and a lone tear fell from my eyes again. Why would my mate do this to me? I let out a sigh wiping away the tears. I would never understand why my life was this messed up. *** "Good morning beautiful Zoey!" I heard a melodious voice say, the same melodious voice I've been hearing the last three days that I've been here. Thankfully my mate hasn't visited me and I hope he doesn't. I flattered open my eyes as she removed the curtains, sunlight streaming into my room. I sat up yawning lightly looking at aunt who looked as vibrant and happy as ever. "How are you doing today! Let's go get ready for the day and have breakfast yeah, I made creamy tea with hot scones," she happily said while I stood up from the bed, wrapping my arms around her. Even though mom wasn't here with me, at least aunt was here to offer comfort. I hugged her tightly, and she did the same, not letting me go until I pulled away. "Go get ready I will wait for you," she said and I nodded going to the bathroom doing my morning routine. I showered and once I was done, went out to find her still waiting with a bunch of clothes laid up on the bed. "I picked an outfit for you, hope you don't mind," she said. I shook my head picking up the clothes she chose but as soon as I was about to start dressing, the door opened and Zara walked in, "Good morning Zoey, and what are you doing here aunt? Didn't I tell you to stay away from my sister?" Zara glared at aunt Melissa who just brushed her off with a wave of her hand and focused on me. "Didn't you hear what I said? Stay away from my sister!" Zara harshly spoke holding aunt Melissa's arm who let out a bored sigh removing Zara's hand from her arm. "Stay away from me kid, you don't want to get on my bad side," She said it so calmly but I could hear the warning. "You--- you have no right to threaten me! Zoey is my sister and I demand you stay away from---" Zara didn't even finish what she wanted to say as aunt Melissa cut her off saying, "I said stay away!" her eyes momentarily flashed gold and Zara gasped taking a step back while I widened my eyes! I had never seen a werewolf with golden eyes. Werewolves never had golden eyes so then--- "What are you?" Zara asked the question that was on my mind, her voice quivering.
