After his demon was awakened, Zander would spend extra time training alone. He fears that he can lose control once again and he is not strong enough to get the control back. It was midnight and everyone was asleep, but Zander was still on the training grounds with Fiero.
“Do not overdo yourself, Zander,” Fiero told his cousin after he got slammed to the ground while sparring.
“You’re just saying that because you are losing,” Zander said, panting.
Both of them are out of breath and they just lay down on the ground and just looked at the night sky.
“You’re already good at combat, Zander. Why are you doing this to yourself?” Fiero asked.
“I want to be better. I need to be better.” Zander answered.
“Well, If you want that do not overdo yourself. You also need rest and sleep. And right now, that’s what I am going to do.” Fiero said and then he stood up.
“Come on.”
“You go ahead. I’ll stay here for a bit.” Zander told him.
“Okay, but don’t stay out too late,” Fiero said and Zander nodded.
Fiero went back to their clay house leaving Zander on the ground. The night was quiet and he can only hear the crickets around him and the rustling of leaves as the wind blows. The moment was peaceful, but then he thought of something to ask his demon.
‘Hey, Aluzam.’
‘What?’
‘I am just curious. Why were you just awakened now? I am already a hundred years old, shouldn’t you have been awakened by the time I first shifted?’ Zander asked.
‘Who told you I was just awakened?’
He heard Aluzam ask him.
‘Didn’t you tell me that you woke up because you were woken up?’ Zander asked.
‘Awakened from a nap, yes, but I was awake since the day you were born. They just had to seal me up.’ Aluzam said and Zander was confused.
‘What do you mean you were sealed? By whom?’ Zander asked.
‘By your family, duh. Didn’t you know? You were subjected to a sealing ceremony when you were just a little baby, just because you can’t handle my awesomeness.’ Aluzam told him.
Zander was too stunned to react after what his demon just said. What does he mean by it? And most of all why?
‘You were a little destructive even when you were just a newborn. They are scared you’ll annihilate the whole kingdom so they decided to seal me. But that sealing ceremony is just like a little band-aid. It will weaken and break once it is time.’ Azulam paused.
‘Also, that seal isn’t that strong as I can still make me known and protect you when you are being weak. I’m sure you remember all the times you blackout.’
Then Zander remembered that while growing up, he would have blackouts, and he would find himself in places that he didn’t remember going to. Growing up he cannot understand what was happening to him. And then the last time he had a blackout he woke up in the stable and he was covered in blood.
‘What have you done?’ He asked Aluzam.
‘I just killed those who wanted to harm you, don’t worry. Also, I was still sealed that time along with your sister’s angel so I cannot really do much damage than kill a few rogues.’ Aluzam said and Zander felt worried once he heard his sister’s name.
‘What about my sister?’ He asked.
‘Even when you were inside your mother’s womb, you had that unexplainable connection with your sister. Maybe because she has your father’s angel.’
‘What happened to Zari recently, it affected the seal am I right? Her seal was broken and it affected my seal, freeing you.’
‘Yes. As I said, the seal was not that strong. It even has so many loopholes. One of those is that over time, as you grow older and stronger, the seal will weaken. Also since you and your sister are connected and in so many ways, if something happens to her, it affects you. Or if something happens to you, it affects her.’ Aluzam explained.
‘But don’t worry too much. Now that you are old enough I believe you can handle my strength and power. There’s nothing for you to be worried about because despite being a demon, I do not wish for apocalypse so use me properly.’ Aluzam said and it made Zander frown.
‘The hell. It sounds cringy.’ Zander said and it made Aluzam laugh.
Their talk was cut short when Massimo appeared and sat beside Zander.
“What are you still doing here this late?” Massimo asked, and then Zander sat up.
“I was just having a few extra hours of training. Fiero just went back and I just need a moment.” Zander answered.
“Why would you need extra hours of training?”
“I need to be strong so I can keep my demon in check,” Zander said.
‘You should keep your emotions in check, i***t. Emotions are nasty little triggers.’ Aluzam told him before fading to the back of his mind.
“What are you so afraid of?” Massimo asked and it made Zander sigh.
“I am afraid to fail this mission. I am afraid to lose everyone I care about.” Zander said.
Massimo sighed and he looked up to the sky.
“I think everyone is afraid of something. I am afraid of losing Alessa, I’m afraid of not being good enough for her. I’m afraid of tomorrow.” He said and then he looked at Zander.
“It’s okay to be scared. It’ll keep you grounded.”
“But still...” Zander trailed.
And then Massimo patted his shoulder.
“Do you have a mate waiting for you to return?” He asked.
“No. I am a hundred years old and yet I haven’t found her. It’s been decades since the last time I got a whiff of her scent that could’ve led me to her, but I lost it and never bothered to look for her. Now I am worried that maybe she’s already dead.” Zander told him.
“What did your parents say?”
“I didn’t tell them. I only told my sister, that she sees things and it was hard to keep things from her.”
Massimo nodded at what Zander said.
“Mates are gifts from the Moon Goddess. If you lost the chance to meet her at one time, the Moon Goddess will let you meet once again.” Massimo told him.
Zander smiled and then he nodded.
“Want to go on a run with me?” Massimo asked and then he stood up.
Zander looked up to him before he stood up as well.
“A run? That would be great.” He said, grinning.
“Come on.”
Massimo said, grinning as well, and then he led him towards the entrance of the forest before they shifted into their lycans. They looked at each other and then they dashed into the forest.
