It’s been days since Calie came back home and announced that she has found her mate. But of course, the adults still cannot wrap up their heads to the fact that Calie is no longer a baby and found her mate. She is still not allowed to leave the castle.
And for days, Zari and Zander would hear them arguing in the castle. And one night, Calie approached all her niece and nephews and dragged them to her room. And she bravely asked for a favor.
“You want us what now?” Zari asked.
“Please, I need to see him again. My lycan, Cassandra she’s longing for him.” Calie told them.
“Look, I have no idea on how you feel right now. Especially you haven’t told us anything about this mate of yours.” Zari said.
“Yeah. Where did you meet him?” Shanaia asked.
Calie heaved a deep sigh and looked at them.
“Okay, when I left I went to Seattle because of a movie I saw. I was roaming in the streets when a man snatched my bag. I could’ve just teleported or stopped him from moving, but out of nowhere this police officer came and he run after the man that snatched my bag.” Calie started with a smile on her face.
Shanaia was about to ask questions, but Calie stopped her, and Shanaia bit her lips.
“When the police officer came back he had the man in handcuffs and gave me my bag back. He was my hero at that moment. And when he looked into his eyes...” Calie trailed with a dreamy look in her eyes.
“I knew he was the one, my soul mate that the Moon Goddess gave me. Oh, and his name is Ian Jackson, human and a law enforcer.” She added.
“Okay, Ian Jackson, human and a police officer. Were you with him the whole time you were gone?” Zander asked and Calie nodded.
“But I did sneak out for a bit when I had to shift for the first time,” Calie said.
“You shifted on your own? Wow, that’s so brave. Not everyone has the strength and determination to shift for the first time on their own.” Crane praised her, and then both Zari and Shanaia gave Calie a pat on the back.
“So... can you please just help me?”Calie asked.
“Okay let me get this straight; you want us to let you out so you can meet with this Ian guy again?” Shanaia asked and Calie nodded.
“I’m going to go back to Seattle and I want you to cover up for me,” Calie said and Zander shook his head.
“I don’t think this is a good idea,” Zander said and everyone looked at him.
Zander knew it came out wrong so he had to make everything clear.
“Look, it’s not like I don’t sympathize or what. But we can’t risk your safety by sneaking out.” He said.
“That’s why I need you to take me, while the rest cover up for me,” Calie said.
********************************.
So the favor went on for months as Calie continued to see her mate with Zander as her bodyguard, and then Zari and Shanaia as her cover-up. But Calie and her mate’s relationship weren’t always butterflies and rainbows as they went through a lot of arguments including the issue that Calie never told him anything about her background or introduce him to her family. Her keeping secrets antagonize Ian that he even used the police database to find out about her. But unfortunately, she has no record like as if she didn’t exist.
Calie felt guilty that her mate trusts her with everything in his life, and she was open about it to Zari and Zander, who continued to cover up for her for years until everything has got out of hand and Calie ended up heartbroken. Alpha Liam did what he has to do to help his youngest daughter.
And when everything was clear between them, they got back together and got married. Calie finally got the freedom she wanted and she was able to have a family of her own. But that bliss was cut short when Ian passed away, leaving Calie with her son, Ivan.
Zari and Zander tried to comfort Calie when they came back to the castle but Calie was too depressed that she shut everyone out.
So Zander took it to himself to take care of Ivan who was just a child. He would take him to school every day and fetch him in the afternoon but they would always eat out before going back home.
“Why would mama, always lock herself in her room?” Ivan asked as he looks down at his plate of fries.
Zander looks at his youngest cousin and opened his burger for him.
“Your mom is still hurting; you just need to understand where she is coming from.” He told him.
“B-But I miss mom...” Ivan paused as tears welled around his eyes.
“I miss her like I miss my dad...”
“Does she hate me now that dad is gone?”
And that is when the waterworks started. Ivan cried so hard that other people in the diner are looking their way. Zander sighed and then he stood up and went to sit beside Ivan. He pulled his small body to his side and hugged him.
“I want my daddy...”
“Ssshhh... I know. Your daddy loves you no matter what wherever he is right now.” Zander cooed as he rubbed the child’s back.
“Your mom will need you to help her get over the pain.”
After they ate in the diner, Zander took Ivan home. And after he took him to his room, he saw his mother come out of their apartment and she approached him.
“How was Ivan?” Zab asked her son.
“He’s devastated, mom,” Zander answered and then he heaved a deep sigh.
“Ivan thinks Calie hates him because Ian is gone.” He said and Zab pursed her lips.
“I can’t really blame Calie. It hurts to lose your mate, and this is her way of coping. Just make sure that Ivan understands the situation and he is always taken care of.” She told him and Zander nodded.
Calie’s situation got worse as each day passed. And when Zab had enough she confronted her sister. It took so much time and effort before Calie finally snapped back to normal. She may have been functional but something in her has changed. She is not the old Calie that is sweet and warm; she has become cold and killer as she took over Zab’s position with the Elites.
Ivan on the other hand grew up to be a good person and decided to live on his own, follow his own path and find out what is in store for him. He left Stone Castle right graduating high school to study in California. And since then he would just go home for special occasions.
Seeing that everyone was finally happy, Zander decided to have a little vacation and unwind. Zander went to Naples, Italy to rest and have a bit of research for a business proposal that can help with their business.
He joined a group tour around Naples so he can get some ideas. They were in the Underground Tour when he smelled the same scent that he smelled before. Zander began looking around but he cannot pinpoint where the scent is coming from,
‘Go find her!’ Zander heard his Lycan scream in his head.
‘Her? Who’s her?’ Zander asked.
‘Mate!’ Achilles screamed in Zander’s head.
Zander froze when he heard the word mate.
‘Now!’
With Achilles’ roar inside his head, Zander dashed towards the direction where the scent was coming from. His feet dragged him towards a certain direction of the underground tunnels but it only led him towards the exit.
Once he was outside, the scent was faint and almost impossible for him to trace. He still looked trying to get a whiff of the fading scent.
“Damn it.” Zander cursed as the scent was completely gone and he still didn’t find their mate.
‘You incompetent fool! You lost her! This is the second time you lost our mate!’ Achilles growled in his mind.
‘Hey! Watch your words furface! It’s not like I intended to lose her!’ Zander growled back.
‘Why do you always lose our mate?! What if we never see her again?!’
‘Don’t think like that! The Moon Goddess will not let that happen! We will find her, in due time.’
Achilles snarled at him before retreating at the back of his head. He can still feel his lycan’s fury so he took several calming breaths so he won’t lose control.
Then once he was all calm, he went back to the tour group he was in.
