Emily sat with Eleanor and Rebecca inside the restaurant while munching on her food. She was starved and wasn’t bothered by the formal etiquette. Eleanor and Rebecca ate slowly while gossiping about the new girl at Rebecca’s office.
“Seriously?” Eleanor exclaimed, hearing the story of the new girl.
Rebecca nodded while popping a chicken piece into her mouth.
“She was apparently working late at night… If you know what working means,” Rebecca said and Emily’s ear caught her attention.
“The level they stoop to, to get promotions,” Emily said, and Eleanor was still gaping at Rebecca.
“Oh God!” Eleanor said, and Emily pointed to Eleanor’s plate.
“Keep eating, Eleanor,” Emily said, and Eleanor nodded.
It was then Eleanor suddenly frowned and glanced up at Emily.
“Wait, you owe me the details of that night. What happened there?” Eleanor asked with a smirk.
“Oh, no. I wasn’t working for a promotion,” Emily said, wiping her mouth. “Though I was working… if you know what I mean.”
Eleanor shook her head. “I know you would never sleep with someone to get ahead in your career. I was just asking if something happened between you two and it did! How did it happen?”
Rebecca was confused as she stared at both of them. “What are you girls talking about?”
“Well, Oliver and I are sleeping together. It’s just a casual arrangement, no strings attached,” Emily clarified before Eleanor got her hopes up.
Eleanor shook her head in distaste. “I thought you guys were finally seeing eye to eye.”
Emily shook her head with a nervous laugh. “What? No, it’s never been like that. It’s just sex.”
“Well, whatever suits you guys. But I am happy for you. You get to blow off steam somewhere at least, while my boyfriend has just dumped me for an older woman,” Rebecca said with a sigh at the end.
“What?” Emily said with a pout. “But you guys looked so cute together.”
“I know, right,” Rebecca said and took a sip of her drink.
It was then Emily’s phone rang with a notification. She glanced at it and saw a message from Raymond.
“Booty call,” Rebecca said with a smirk, and Eleanor tried to stifle her laugh with a hand over her mouth.
Emily shook her head at Rebecca with a playful glare. “No, it’s Raymond, my client.”
After reading his message, Emily put her phone down and then suddenly looked up at Rebecca. She remembered the time at Eleanor’s wedding when she had seen Rebecca arguing with Raymond in the corridor. She wondered what it was and decided to ask.
“You met him, Rebecca, at Eleanor’s wedding,” Emily said.
Rebecca frowned, trying to remember, but then shook her head. “Raymond, who?”
“You were actually arguing with him in the corridor, outside the restrooms, and he had a woman with him. I am curious to know what happened?” Emily confessed.
Rebecca continued to frown and then her eyebrows shot up. She shook her head and put her fork down on the plate.
“That asshole. He is your client,” Rebecca said in shock and took a sip of her drink. “He was making out with a woman in the women's restroom, and I called him out for it,” Rebecca explained to Eleanor.
“He started to argue back and it continued. And you won’t believe me, but he had a woman in his arms, ready for him, but he was still eying me like a candy… I would have gouged his eyes out if it weren’t for Eleanor’s wedding.``
Emily and Eleanor laughed at the last part and shook their heads at Rebecca.
“It will be a sight to see you two meet again,” Emily said, and Rebecca scowled at her. “He’s not that bad in general, by the way,” Emily continued.
“Because he’s your client,” Rebecca said, and Eleanor shrugged.
“Maybe he really was interested in you, Becca,” Eleanor said to Rebecca.
“Don’t you dare play matchmaker with me, Eli,” Rebecca said with a playful warning.
They continued to eat and chat while the evening passed. Emily was glad she was finally having some time out with her friends and it was refreshing for her amid all the family drama she was going through.

Oliver was working out when he got a message from someone. He decided to let it go but then his phone rang again. With a push on the ground, he stood up and grabbed his phone to read the notification.
It was a message from Evelyn. He frowned and then opened it.
Evelyn was one of his friends and nothing more. They met at university while they were studying and had been in touch since. Though their contact was casual, Evelyn never forgot to check up on him.
He replied back to her and put the phone away. He wondered what Emily was doing at the moment. She hadn’t called him to meet and it made him irritated that she was busy somewhere else. Was she with some other man? He hoped not. But why did he care? He asked himself.
It had never been like that with any other woman he had slept with in the past but with Emily, everything was different. His desire for her had no control. He felt uncontrollable rage at the thought of another man near her and he was missing her when she wasn’t around. And no woman appealed to him ever since he had been with Emily.
He had thought that it was s****l but it was more. It was much more than he could comprehend. Oliver sat back on the bench and leaned back, staring at the ceiling in thought.
Why was he feeling this way? Wasn’t Emily just his best friend? And the more important question was did Emily think of him like that as well?
