For a moment there, I'm just trying to process his words in silence. Probably because I wasn't expecting him to say that. I mean, he's been ordering me around all day, and right now he almost sounds considerate.
"Not exactly. I just promised my brother I'd take him out today." I respond truthfully after a few moments of silence, catching a glimpse of my own watch as I swing my bag over my shoulder.
Clever will throw a ruckus if I'm late.
"Is that so?" Abel nibbles the bottom portion of his lips, seemingly like he's lost in thought. After a moment of pure silence, he speaks in a rather low voice. "You should've said something earlier. Family comes first before work you know."
Hearing my voice, the girl looks up and widens her eyes to resemble like two large saucers upon realizing who it is standing in front of her.
I pick up something faint yet bitter flowing in her veins. My gaze travels up and down her figure and that's when it clicks in. Now that I'm standing in front of her, I'm noticing something different about her.
"T-that's me." She quickly says, standing up and bowing. The haste movement causes the chair behind her to screech abruptly. "I-is there anything you need from me, S-sir?"
I clear my throat, glancing around and then responding. "Do you know where Miller is?"
"M-miss Miller? She stepped out for a while b-but she'll be back soon."
I don't know why my stomach drops to the ground hearing that.
My mind zones out for three seconds before I pull myself back to reality.
