Chris is the 'short' guy with blond hair whose eyes turns cresent when he smiles. Min has very pale skin that makes him stand out from the rest of his friends. I heard that once he falls asleep, it's impossible to wake him up. He's the kind of person to sleep through a fire drill. I later found out that the one that spoke to me through the phone earlier was Jace. That bubbly personality is enough to entice anyone into befriending him. The tall one with symmetrical features and a deep voice is Taejin. And then there's June. The one with the adorable dimples. Their presence's not as bad as I thought it would be. Once consumed by video games, they practically turned to little boys from then on. Laughters filled the room, accompanied by the repeated beeps of sound effects. I'm smiling along with them, but the headache's only getting worse the more I try to suppress it. I excuse myself to the kitchen. I think I have some pills left to ease this stupid migrain. As I'm searching my drawers, faint footsteps enter the area. I turn around and pop a tablet inside my mouth as I reach for a glass of water. "You've been having repetitive headaches haven't you?" June asks. It sounds more like a statement than a question though. "Sort of. It's nothing a little dose won't fix though." After a moment of silence, he settles on the stool across from me. "Ever heard of the story about the mage who fell in love with a wolf?" I find it weird that he's bringing that up out of the blue. "I've heard stories about a mage falling for a human..?" And just recently, werewolves whose mates are humans. June lifts one side of his lips into a little smile. "Then you must know about the 'cliff'." "Cliff?" He nods, elaborating more with his hand. "The cliff. Where an ocean of clouds touch the ground, birds fly the furthest and the sun shines the prettiest." I wonder how he's aware of such place. It's not something anyone can easily have access to. Given that it's surrounded by magic. But even if they do, unless you know the exact location, it's impossible to find it. I place my glass down. "I've been curious. I'm not trying to be nosy or anything, but if you don't mind me asking. Are you like Abel?" "You mean a werewolf?" He laughs. "The guys are, but I'm somewhere in between. A hybrid as you humans like to call it." "Hybrid uh?" When two different types of species bear offsprings, they're reffered to as Hybrids. I heard those types of species are always so rare to find. Loona once mentioned there's a hybrid attending our school but never revealed who it was. They say hybrids have a distinct scent that differs from that of a wolf. They also have the power to hide one scent and make powerful of their other half. Unless you're a trained werewolf like Loona or a pure-bred alpha like Abel, then there's no way you can tell that a species' a hybrid when they choose to hide it. "Yup. Anyway. Are you feeling any better now?" Surprisingly, I am. I flash June a smile while nodding my head. "Yeah. I probably should go check up on Loona up staires." "Abel's fiesty cousin?" I chuckle. "The one and only." When I leave, I fail to notice the serious gaze that suddenly falls across June's face. - The guys stayed longer than they originally planned. Time check. it's eight fifty two. Jace suggested we order Chinese take out for dinner. As long as we have sushi rolls on the side, then no one had a problem with that. Our orders didn't take long before they've finally arrived. Loona slaps an uno card down with a triumphant look in her eyes. Taejin reciprocates the expression with a taunting smirk as he places a draw four cards. Obviously the whole 'don't play while eating' policy doesn't exist to this two. "Oh right. I forgot to ask." I turn myself to face Abel who sat beside me. " So. Who is she?" No elaboration is needed for him to know what I'm talking about. The room that was once filled with chatters suddenly falls silent. Abandoning cards, Loona stuffs her face with noodles while Chris gulps down a can of soft drinks. Jace who was laughing so hard moments ago suddenly excused himself for the bathroom. Min remains indifferent as he slurps on his food and June's firm gaze stay fixated towards Abel. The latter clears his throat. "I still haven't found her yet." "But Loona said you did." I inquire, glancing at the girl confused. With wide eyes and a mouth full of noodles, she nods her head vigorously. Much to Abel's irritation. "So who is it? Do I know her?" I pester on. "Van perhaps?" Min, who's been silent from the second he's stepped foot here, butts in a blunt tone. "It's you." "Min." June hisses at the pale man only to receive an uncaring shrug. "What? He's bound to tell her sooner or later." "Still, you shouldn't have said it like that." Expectations fill their eyes as they face me. I stab my chop sticks inside the fancy Chinese box of noodles repeatedly like I'm pounding a nail with a hammer and let out an awkward laugh. "Nice one, Min." It's a joke right? If it is, then it's a very funny one. I'm Abel's mate? That's gold. The serious expression on their faces however tells me otherwise. I cut my laugh and stare at my murdered noodles. "That's impossible." Impossible because I can't ever see Abel in that way. There must be some kind of mistake. There must've have been a malfunction with their Goddess' matching machine. Because there is no way in this earth I am Abel's mate. Even the thought of it makes me lose my appetite. Taejin murmurs. "Guess the truth's finally out."
