Oh, how I'd give anything to be in bed right now.
I didn't choose this job just so I could stay way past eight in the evening. I release a sigh, making my way up to where he is. Black covered file, purple and blue. I gently place them on the table, making sure they've stacked up neatly. An ocean of emotions' streaming my body and I debate whether or not I should let it all out.
Although I may look calm and collected outside, on the inside I really, really want to walk out of this office and head straight home.
"Have you finished setting out the advertisements?"
I slowly nod my head, purposely crouching my posture. Should I go on keeping my muscles stiff and high? I think not. It's already late and the time when I should be already lazying around with my brothers, I'm still stuck here with my boss. "I have."
Abel's fired over twenty people today which means there's now a huge gap that needs to be filled. Fresh recruits. He's aiming for those fresh graduates with zero experience since it'll be easier to train them the right way. He clicks his tongue and once again dives into the screen of his computer. All day today, he's done nothing but summon me. Ordered me to do this and that and even made me wipe his windows for God knows what reason. I mean, the building has a janitor for a reason. Why me all of a sudden? For some reason, I feel he's mad because he saw me and Daron together.
I shake my head and quickly shove that thought inside the mental bin of my mind. There's no way he's mad just because of that. Because for starters, he doesn't know me anymore.
The building's already empty at this point if we exclude the two of us. When he doesn't say anything else, I make my way towards the couch in the middle of the room before turning my laptop on. I was planning on finishing this task back at home but it doesn't look like I'll leave anytime soon. Just an hour ago I was on the phone explaining why I'd be late today to Clever. To make the long story short, let's just say he dislikes the idea of me returning home later than normal. But of course, it can't be helped. I should be thankful that I still kept my job despite the behavior I showed this morning. Staying late right now is the least I can do to make up for what I did.
The next minutes pass by with silence filling the air. After finalizing the last couple of touches, I save my document and exit the screen. That's the last of this week's work. Normally I'd have finished it a day before the deadline.
Guess I'll have an enjoyable weekend.
I carefully slide my laptop back inside my bag before turning my attention to my left just in time to see Abel stand up from his chair. I take that as a sign that we're finally finished.
I begin fishing for my keys, clutching it tightly between my fingers when I finally feel it. Just as I'm about ready to announce my exit, I end up swallowing my words when he speaks up.
"I apologize for making you work overtime. But I'm not the type of person who's willing to wait for something when it can be done now. I hope you understand where I'm coming from Miss Miller."
"Of course. It's understandable."
He nods his head with a hum before grabbing his car keys from the table. "Shall we get going then?"
Once we reached the parking lot, I face my boss again to respectfully announce my leave with a bow and finally slide inside my car. Time check, eleven in the evening. I loosen the band from my hair before gliding my fingers across it exhaustedly. It's been a hectic day today. So much that I'm still having a hard time processing it all. Abel's really here. The person I chose to avoid is suddenly here and is now my boss to top it all off.
As I begin to slowly drive my car away from the parking lot, I catch the sight of Abel staring at me from the rear mirror. Although it was for a split second, I could've sworn a frown crossed his face.
Does he perhaps remember me?
Then again, I could just be imagining it.
It doesn't take long before I reach my place and immediately attacked by my brothers glaring at me from the hallway. For someone who does pranks in almost every chance they find, they sure do look pissed.
"Took you long enough." Says the older one with a scowl. I merely let out a hum, ruffling his hair as I pass them. Clever's on the verge of crying but I'm too busy getting myself a bottle of water to notice. Nathan huffs loudly before marching up to me once again. He snatches the bottle from my hand only to get the response of me taking another bottle of water. When he attempts to take that one as well, I simply turn my heel to face my back at him, keeping the bottle out of reach.
"Noona."
I turn around, fluttering innocent eyes at him. "Yes?"
"Why were you late?"
"I had work."
"You didn't answer my calls or texted me back."
"I was working," I inform him with a shrug, sipping from my bottle again only to end up choking when a sudden voice pierces the kitchen walls.
"Noona!" This time it's Clever walking up to me with bloodstained eyes and a crimson nose and cheeks. I blink my eyes, wondering why on earth is he crying. Not to mention. Is he trying to wake up the whole house right now? They should be asleep right now.
Nathan rolls his eyes when I quickly pull the boy closer to me to comfort him with my hand rubbing his back.
"Why are you crying? Noona's here already." My attempts to shush him turns to a complete fail as Clever ends up crying even more. Personally, I find this situation quite unfair. I'm the one currently stressing over my job and now I'm returning home to a crying baby.
"Next time answer your phone, Noona." Nathan says.
