I don’t get it. Mates are supposed to love each other and cherish the gift that Selene gave us. My mate is not like that. She hates me and has made it very clear that she doesn’t want to be with me.
It hurts.
I have tried everything. At first, I did what my instincts told me. I complimented her and wanted to spend my time with her and shower her with gifts and love, but one day, she changed. I heard the stupid rumor that circulated in the school and quickly ended it. I asked Jen if she had changed because of that, but she denied it.
According to her, she always knew it was a stupid rumor, but I didn’t believe her. If she did, why would she continue treating me like the plague?
My wolf, Apolo, was not happy with her treatment. He is a Lycan, after all, and their pride is huge. I have had to fight him several times because he wants us to reject Jen. According to him, we shouldn’t waste more time if she doesn't want us. I know he doesn’t want us to reject her; he is just tired of her behavior towards us.
I don’t know what I would do if she rejected me. Would I be able to continue without my mate? Most likely, but I don’t see a life without her. I want those times when we laughed and played together to come back. I want her to trust me again and to try to give us a chance.
The Moon Goddess paired us for a reason, and I don’t want her to throw everything down the drain because she is scared. I tried to come here to see if she would like to go out with me. I know she would never accept a date, so I asked Ian and his mate for a favor. I thought a double date was the answer, but apparently, she didn't want that either. I don't know if I can stay here for tomorrow. I know it is her birthday, but if our bond snaps further, I don't think I will be able to control Apolo. He will mark her against her will to add up, and she will hate me even more.
Now that I knew she didn't want to see me, I decided to leave sooner. I have to go to Aunt Kailee's home in the North. My mom told me they give excellent physical training in Alaska, so I am going there to strengthen my wolf and me further. I have to learn to control him because he is a Lycan, and he is stronger than most Alphas, but that means that he tries to control my actions more than a common wolf does. That is the other reason I want to leave. If Apolo decides to take control, I don't think I will be able to stop him, and considering that he is mad at Jen, I am not sure what he would do.
"Are you sure you want to leave, man?" Ian asked me.
"You know why I am leaving. And don't worry, I will be back in three months tops," I told my friend.
Ian will be my future Beta, but he isn't eighteen yet. We go through two intense trainings. The first one is when we gain our wolf, or at least it usually is. I gained my wolf when I was six, so I had to wait until I was fourteen to attend my first training. Then, when I turned seventeen, Ian turned fourteen, and I went with him to his training. That was the day everything changed; when I returned from the camp, I noticed that Jen's attitude toward me was completely different. Now that I am twenty and at university, I thought she would miss me, but no. She seems relieved.
My second training was when I turned eighteen. It was intense, but I went through it easily. After my second training, people could challenge me for my position, but no one dared. My father waited for months for a challenge, but that didn't happen. You do it with other Alphas when you train, so they already know how strong I am. Ian "challenged" me, and I beat his ass. Because of my nature, I can't use magic or my Lycan. I can only fight in my wolf and human form, and even with those limitations, people didn't stand a chance against me.
Uncle Alex's son could be the only one who could put up a fight with me, but he is twelve. I will have to wait until he is bigger to see what he can do.
"I don't have to go there, right?" Ian asked me. He hated the cold.
"No, this is training for my Lycan; you don't have a Lycan," I mocked him.
He stuck his tongue out at me. I laughed at him. I don't think he would want to go if he knew what the training consisted of.
"You always tell me about your Lycan, but I have never seen him," He complained.
I shook my head. I don't let Apolo out in our Lycan form because we have not been marked yet. Lycans are more primal than wolves, and the only time I let him out, he went straight to Jen. It was hard transforming back because he didn't want to give me control back. It hurts also; when your other side resists the change, it causes excruciating pain.
"Won't my sister feel pain because you will be away from her?" He asked me.
"No, you will give her this as a birthday present," I said, showing him a necklace with a crystal embedded in magic.
"What is this?" He grabbed it, admiring its beauty.
The necklace was beautiful; I made sure of that. The chain was made of delicate gold links that shone brightly. At the center hung a crystal; inside it, swirls of blue and green magic danced and shimmered like tiny wisps of smoke caught in a sunbeam.
"It's beautiful," he murmured, his eyes fixed on the crystal. "Where did you get it?"
"Uncle Alex helped me; it can only be found in the deepest caves of the northern mountains." Uncle Alex helped me get this crystal a long time ago. I have wanted to give it to Jen for months, and I can't believe I have to embed it with magic so she doesn't feel the distance pains.
"And how is this going to help?" He asked again, not understanding me.
"I used magic," I explained.
He moved his mouth in a silent 'Oh' when he realized what I had done.
"It must be cool to be able to use magic." He muttered.
I grabbed his shoulder and gave him the box in which he should put the necklace.
"It is," I said. "Please give it to her," I pleaded.
"Don't worry, man. I will make sure she uses it," he said. And I am sorry my sister is such a prick with you," he murmured.
"If you could find out why she hated me so much, I would be grateful,"
"She doesn't tell me a thing; she knows I will tell you everything," Ian said.
Finally, Jen and Anne came out. She looked as beautiful as always, but I tried not to look at her so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable. Anne jumped next to Ian and hugged him.
"Whatcha talking about?" She asked.
"Killian was telling me he was leaving tomorrow for Alpha training in the north," Ian said.
I didn't look at Jen because I knew she would be glad I was leaving. I didn't want my heart to hurt even further.
"You are leaving?" She asked me, to which I nodded.
Now, I looked at her and noticed how emotionless she was. I really tried to contain my anger and sadness, but it was too much for me to hold.
"You seem glad about it," I said with sadness, turning around to get into my car.
"She doesn't care," Apolo whimpered.
Even if he tells me to reject her, I know he doesn't want to. He is hurt and sad but doesn't want to lose her.
I wondered if she would miss me, but then she spoke, and my world crumbled.
"I am," She replied.
I tried not to wince in pain, which is why I didn't want to look at her. I just got into the car and waited for the rest of them to get inside. I expected Jen to go in the backseat, but apparently, her brother and friend wanted to spend time together in the back. When she entered, her scent of candy and orange hit me.
It was going to be a long ride.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ride to their high school was very uncomfortable; we didn't speak to each other, and she only said a thank you when I left her. Ian and Anne looked at me with pity, but I told them to get off because I needed to get to my university. It was a lie; I had already applied for leave and didn't have to return for a semester.
"What should we do?" I asked Apolo, but he had no idea.
I have asked my father, uncles, and everyone I know who has a mate for advice, but they don't understand why Jennifer is acting that way.
Only time will tell, but I am sure of something: I won't let her go. I will give her all the time she needs, but she won't leave me. Unless she rejects me, I will continue fighting for this bond because I trust the Moon Goddess's judgment, and I know she wouldn't create a bond between two people to have them reject each other.
“Uncle Alex was rejected,” Apolo reminded me.
“Yes, but it was because he was a d**k, and OUR mom rejected him,” I reminded him.
My mom and dad have always been honest with us. One day, I expressed to my mother how mad I was because Jen had changed with me; my mom explained that my father was not her first mate and that Uncle Alex was. I was confused, but then she explained everything to me. How he had changed after her rejection and met Aunt Kailee. My mom also told me my dad was an ass at first and always reminded me to behave appropriately with my mate.
It has been hard, but now I will have to leave, and she will stay in the pack. I hope when I return that, she realizes that our bond is meant to be.
One can only wish.
I was now getting back to the pack house. Jen and Ian don’t live there anymore because Jen asked them to move out while I was away with my training; when I came back, my father told me that Uncle Andrew had decided to move.
When I reached the pack house, I noticed my biggest nightmare standing in the front.
Fucking hell.
She was the one who started the rumors that made my mate start rejecting me. I have told her several times to leave me alone, but she keeps trying to get close to me.
I parked my car and prepared myself for having to deal with Tatiana. When she saw me, she squealed and came running. She tried to hug me, but I extended my hand so she couldn’t reach me.
“Disgusting,” Apolo growled.
When I didn’t let her touch me, she looked at me and pouted.
“What do you want?” I asked.
I don’t want to be kind to her; she has been told several times to leave me alone, and if she doesn’t get the memo, she must face the consequences.
“Why are you so mean?” She asked and tried to make puppy eyes.
“Because I have told you several times to leave me alone,” I replied.
“But… why?” She whined.
Fucking hell.
“Because I don’t like you, you know what you did, and I want nothing to do with you,” I continued, walking to the front of the house.
“But your grandmother likes me!” She screamed at the top of her lungs. “You are rejecting me for a wannabe that isn’t as pretty as me,”
I froze. She had just insulted Jennifer, and I was not going to stand here to hear her bullshit.
I turned around to look at her. She smiled triumphantly, thinking that she had gotten what she wanted from me. All she achieved was piss me off.
“What did you say?” I asked. She got into this position of bratty kid that I hated.
“I said that your grandmother approves of me and not that bimbo,” she answered.
I used my speed to be in front of her. Now that I was near, she could notice how much my aura had changed.
She started shaking; I could practically smell her fear in the air.
“Kill her,” Apolo growled.
He wanted her blood; that was all he was after. I couldn’t kill her, but I was going to put her in her place.
I extended my hand to touch her cheek. She was trembling like a leaf.
“Do you think you are better than Jennifer?” I asked dangerously. My voice mixed with Apolo’s.
She didn’t answer me, so I moved my hand to her neck and squeezed. It was not enough to get the air out from her, but enough so she would know that if she moved, I would choke her.
“Answer me!” I ordered.
“Y-yes.” She stuttered.
“Really?” I squeezed tighter. She started gasping as she felt the air becoming scarce. “Get this through your head, Tatiana; nobody is better than my mate. She is all I want, all I need. If you ever try to get near me again or say something bad about Jennifer, I will kill you,” she was trying to scratch my arms, but it was futile. “Is that clear?”
I let her go so she could answer my question. She started coughing uncontrollably.
“Is that clear?” I repeated, growling.
“Yes,” she managed to say.
“Yes, what?”
“Yes, Alpha,” she said.
I turned around again to get inside my house when I smelled her sweet scent. Jennifer was here. I wanted to go to where she was, but Tatiana yelled something again.
“Your grandmother will never accept Jennifer; she is not for you!”
Before I could answer her, I heard a gasp, and when I looked to see who it was, I noticed her beautiful blonde hair running away from me.
Fuck!
