On campus
I just finished teaching. The students came out one by one. I tried to smile at them. Some of them were still gossiping about me. It's my first time as a lecturer, but I actually had experience teaching as a volunteer.
My phone rang. There was an incoming message. From Robert. What else did he have to say to me?
Robert: We haven't finished talking about grandfather's will. I hope you won't shy away.
I really don't understand what Robert is thinking. I know what he wants? His grandfather's will? Why is he asking me? I didn't bring a penny after you divorced.
Me: There's nothing to talk to you about, Robert. Ask your family anything. Leave my life alone.
I was so focused on my phone that I heard a noise in the classroom. I looked over to see Gwen leaning against Nathan. Gwen grabbed Nathan's cheek, and they kissed.
Okay, I don't want to be an old-fashioned lecturer, but I still remember Nathan's statement about being attracted to me. Well Nathan is a handsome man, and his father is wealthy. I guess he does have a habit of flirting with women.
"Excuse me," I called out to them.
Nathan glanced at me. His lips were still pressed against Gwen's. Gwen closed her eyes. She removed her lips from Nathan.
"Is something wrong, Mrs. Wilson?" Gwen asked. "I'm sure you're old enough to see a couple kissing."
"Yeah, I see," I replied as I tidied up the books and laptop I used for class. "But you guys are in class, and I'm still here. You can kiss at the park or outside the classroom."
Gwen smiled, stood up proudly, and walked towards me like a model. Her eyes were sharp. She was annoyed and then grabbed my hand roughly.
"You are nothing to me. Why do you have the nerve to tell me what to do, Lecturer?" Gwen is very arrogant. I've noticed it since the first time I taught here.
Nathan stared at us from his seat. It seemed like he wouldn't do anything about it or wanted to enjoy my student being rude to his lecturer.
"I am your lecturer," I said. "There are etiquette you must understand, Gwen."
"You're just a lecturer, Mrs. Wilson. Don't boss me around. I could get you fired from this university."
"Am I wrong if I reprimand my students?" I retorted.
"No, you are not." Nathan suddenly retorted. He got up from his seat and walked over to Gwen and me.
Gwen turned to Nathan, who was standing in front of me in just a few steps.
"But your class is over, Mrs. Wilson. It's not your responsibility to reprimand students anymore. You have no authority."
Nathan meant it. I didn't see him joking around like he usually did. Did he take offence at what I said last time?
"Okay, I am sorry," I said. I didn't want to argue. I had things to do after this. I didn't want to prolong this dispute.
I quickly took my books and laptop to leave the class, but suddenly, Gwen pulled my laptop and threw it on the floor. I was in shock. What was wrong with Gwen? Why is she acting like that?
"What the hell are you doing?" I screeched.
Gwen took out her cell phone. It turned out she was secretly recording me.
"Don't mess with me, or I'll report you for being rude to your students!"
"What are you talking about?" I couldn't believe that Gwen could do this. I didn't even do anything. "You broke my laptop!"
"You even accused me of breaking your laptop!" Gwen acted as if I had been rude to her.
"I don't know what to do, Gwen. You've twisted the facts."
I quickly picked up my broken laptop on the floor. Suddenly, Nathan kicked the laptop, and I was even more shocked. What exactly were they doing to me?
"Nathan Smith, what are you doing?" I ran out of words to express my annoyance.
Nathan looked at me from above because I was looking down, while Gwen smiled at what Nathan was doing to me. I really couldn't understand my students' behavior.
"You are a lecturer. Show that you have more power than your students. This is harassment. You can report it to the police," Nathan said.
I was surprised at Nathan's statement. Was he doing me a favor?
"Nathan!" Gwen was upset. She even tugged at Nathan's hand. "Why would I defend that lecturer? He's interrupting our fun!"
Nathan was very relaxed in his response to Gwen. Aren't they dating? But why do I feel that something is missing in their relationship?
"Our fun?" Nathan chuckled. "Do I get excited when you suddenly pull my cheek and kiss me?"
"What?" Gwen was stunned by Nathan's words. What the hell is going on? Why did I feel awkward watching them fight? "You took me to the hotel a while ago. You..."
"Gwen, you're not the only woman I took to the hotel. Do you think you're special? I can take anyone to a hotel."
This has gone too far. Nathan should never underestimate a woman. Especially since I've seen that Gwen likes Nathan.
"You can't do that to a woman. You've also committed harassment, Nathan," I said.
"I was defending you, Mrs. Wilson," Nathan retorted.
"But not by harassing a woman. You've hurt Gwen's feelings."
I don't know what I did wrong, but Gwen slapped me. At once, Nathan pulled me behind him. He was protecting me from Gwen.
"Get out," Nathan said.
"Why are you doing this to me, Nathan?" Gwen had tears in her eyes.
"You should know why no man wants you, Gwen! Just so you know. You were my only bet. I bet on bringing you to the hotel. I heard Jackson likes you. I like that he didn't win anything from me. I never wanted you, Gwen!"
Heartbroken, Gwen immediately ran out of the classroom. While I was speechless at Nathan's attitude. He turned to look at me. Now, it was my turn to slap his face.
"Mrs. Wilson?" Nathan touched his cheek.
“Don't treat a woman like that, Nathan. You'll get your karma one day!”
