Emma
I can't believe a student would have the nerve to say that to a lecturer. I don't think Gwen deserves that kind of behavior. It was enough for me but not for Barak. He was already a very good man. I wouldn't have accepted the lecturer job here without him convincing me.
"Don't you ever appreciate people, Gwen Stewart!" I stood up. My hands were dirty from cleaning the food on the floor.
All eyes were on me. If I had felt embarrassed earlier, I would have felt angry now. Gwen shifted in her seat. She deliberately looked at me with her haughty gaze.
"No, Mrs. Wilson. I never respect anyone poorer than me, even if it's a lecturer," Gwen replied. "Don't you get it? You can leave this university. We don't need lecturers like you."
"What's wrong with me?" Gwen didn't like my appearance from the start. "Is it because I'm prettier than you?"
The students got rowdy at my statement. Of course, I knew who Gwen's father was. I heard that his father made a considerable donation to the school.
Gwen stood up. She approached me quickly. Her hand swung toward my cheek, but Barak stopped her hand from hitting my cheek.
"Stay out of this, or my dad will ruin your career, Professor Cornelius. I'm sure you'd love to be the chancellor of this university." Gwen threatened Barak.
"You can't show your arrogant attitude to Emma, Gwen." Barak didn't flinch, but I worried Gwen's threat might come true.
Just as things were heating up. Nathan suddenly threw his plate into the center. All of a sudden, the attention turned to Nathan.
"Don't you guys have any brains?" Nathan asked calmly. We're eating. Don't make a scene. If any of you don't like this incident, report it to the university committee. Don't spoil everyone's appetite here."
Nathan did me a favor again. He deliberately threw his plate to get Gwen to stop.
Gwen ran over to Nathan, whining.
"Did you see what they did to me, Nathan? They're bullying me," Gwen said.
Gwen is a problematic girl. I hate women like her the most. Back in college, I would have fought back if any of my friends had been like that. I'm not the type of woman who likes to be bullied, but now I can't do it. I would ruin other people's lives if I used my emotions to solve problems.
"Let go of my hand," Nathan said.
"What?" Gwen was surprised by Nathan's response.
"You've ruined my mood."
Nathan quickly walked out of the cafeteria. Meanwhile, Barak immediately asked the Janitor to clean up the food that fell on the floor. I didn't have the right to take any more food because I had wasted my meal, so I chose not to eat lunch. I went back to the lecture hall instead.
As I walked through the hallway, Nathan stood on a bench at the edge of the hallway. He took my hand. My eyes widened. I looked behind me. Luckily, there was no one around.
"I told you to be careful," Nathan said.
"What do you mean? I didn't even do anything wrong," I said.
"Don't mess with Gwen. She'll do anything to get back at you."
I was surprised. Why did Nathan mention Gwen's name?
"Is this about sabotaging my car?"
Nathan looked around. No one was here. He quickly pulled my hand away, which surprised me even more. Nathan took me to an empty building on the university grounds. This place happened to be empty because no students were using it.
"Why are we here?" I was confused.
"Remember, you just apologized to me. Don't make any more trouble, Mrs. Wilson."
"What do you mean? I never make trouble. You're the one who always arrives out of the blue disrespectfully."
Nathan sighed. He approached me, but I immediately backed away.
"What?" I tried to keep my distance from Logan.
"Am I spreading the virus? Why are you responding like that?"
I'm just like him when Nathan steps forward, his hand reaching for my hand. He looks at my injured finger. I didn't even know they were injured.
"You're really sloppy, Mrs. Wilson," Nathan said. "You're too hot. So Gwen doesn't like you. Especially when you interrupt her while she's seducing me. Gwen is obsessed with me."
It was a teenage love story, and I had no interest in getting involved.
"I didn't do anything. I only reprimanded Gwen for kissing in my class. Any lecturer would have done the same..."
"We are different, Mrs. Wilson. Gwen, some of the students here, and I have tremendously influenced the university." Nathan was very serious.
"Because your parents are rich?"
"Exactly," Nathan replied. "Gwen is very temperamental. It's better to just give in to her. Sabotaging your car is normal for Gwen. So, if you want to survive at this university, you must be careful."
I looked into Nathan's serious eyes. He wasn't playing around.
"Why are you telling me?" I asked. "I mean, why should you care? This has nothing to do with you."
Nathan didn't say anything. He put my injured finger in his mouth. I was speechless for a while because of this. What the hell is Nathan? He had the nerve to do something like this. And I stupidly didn't refuse.
"You're my neighbour. And you're a hot lecturer. Beautiful women should be protected, right?"
I pushed Nathan. He chuckled. Looking around, he was charming. No wonder Gwen was so crazy about Nathan.
"Are you obsessed with Gwen, too?" I started making conversation with Nathan.
"Me?" Nathan shook his head. There are too many women like me. Gwen has nothing on those girls."
Well, Nathan was the idol of the ladies. I don't have to worry about his love story with Gwen, but Nathan does qualify as a girl's idol.
"So, you are a player," I said.
"Player?" Nathan smiled. "I never ask them to come to me. They come to me on their own to have fun."
"Have fun?" I wondered how wild Nathan's socializing was. "Well, I have to get on with my work."
I was about to leave this room but saw a group of students heading this way.
"Oh, s**t!" I panicked. What if they see me and Nathan together in this empty room!
Nathan tugged on my hand, urging me to run into the darkness. What is he going to do?
