Lena walked into the offices Friday at noon, being a little early left her enough time to settle in before he came back from court hearings. Lena had the case spread out and was looking through it and organizing it when his voice carried into the room before he even walked past it. He had his big coat on, he headed into what she had been told was his office and then he asked his receptionist to give someone a call for him, and tell them that they might be late again tonight for dinner before he again went into his office.
She looked through the walls of glass before she had to swallow hard as he came back out and had a box with him. He was now only wearing his shirt and tie, his arms were exposed and Lena noted a small tattoo on his arm where the shirt now rested but she couldn't make it out.
He smiled as she sat the box down and nodded before he left one more time and brought a second box. "Ok, so these have the two boxes of evidence. We need to organize it and you can tell me what all you have worked out for yourself. I have some of the bigger points already noted... give me two seconds on the phone and I will be back." Alex had to talk to his mother, in private, if she heard anyone but his older, married, with 2 grandkids receptionist was working with him she would start bringing him lunches.
Alex saw her nod and start to open things up. She had a s**t load of papers and notes on things already spread out on the table, and if it was anything like he was already imagining he knew why she was a the first in her class. Very thorough.
"She's on line 2." Danielle, his receptionist told him and gave him a smile. For some reason she loved talking and calling his mother.
"Thanks." He got to his own phone and hit the small button and took a deep breath. "Hey momma." He looked around and saw that no one was really in the office right now.
"You're going to be late... or early? What does that mean?" She asked and Alex let out a sigh.
"Means momma that I have an intern who looks very organized and if we get through the evidence here on time I won't be late, and if they are quick... I can probably get out of here in two hours. I would then be early." Alex told her and she started to go off in Greek about how some men don't know how to answer a question. "Ok momma, how about this... I will be on time, but if I am late don't be surprised." He laughed again and she just sighed.
"Alexander you will be here when you get here, I still expect you to collect your friend from last week. That girl was so sweet." She went on and on about the 'girl he had taken home' and for the life of him he felt bad for not remembering her name.
"Momma, she was a little young for me, don't you think one of my other brothers would of liked her better." Alex chided and she laughed on the other end like she knew something he didn't. "Momma, what is funny?"
"You aren't ready to settle for someone now, so if you get someone younger my boy you still have years to have babies." She started to say how the age difference would be so good for him and she sighed on the other end as she took a deep breath. "Now, get back to your intern, I am sure the boy is eager to prove himself." She kissed into the phone and Alex smiled, grateful she didn't ask if it was a boy or girl intern and just assumed.
Alex looked into the room and saw her looking at the evidence before putting them with each different notes she had and he watched from the door as she moved down to place the other notes she had with the evidence, but it looked like the most notes she had on something was missing.
"So, that's taken care of. Walk me through what you're doing now." He told her and Lena turned and nodded, putting down the last bag in her hand before turning and starting at the front where he was standing. He listened to her talk about the evidence she only read about in the files, and then what she could get from it, and how she noticed some things weren't marked in the files.
Alex nodded and started to read over her notes before looking over the file he had been given that had been given to her, and then at the evidence. "Ok, if you want to start taking notes from this side, I will read over the other side and make more adjustments if it's needed." He told her and she nodded before getting her little legal pad out from her purse and she started to write something and he headed to look at her notes and other evidence bags and boxes before his receptionist told him it was time for her to go home.
"Thank you Astrid. Have a good night." He told her and then pulled his watch up to see that if he wanted to be on time like he told his mother he had to leave in 10 minutes. "I also have to get going. We can leave it here, I will make the notes tomorrow when I come in and we can go over it on Tuesday when you come back." He told her and she looked up and then down as she finished off whatever she was writing.
"Actually... I do want to learn everything I can. Do you think I could come in tomorrow too?" She asked and then bit her lip, wondering if that was ok to even ask. She was only an intern, and he could probably work best alone.
"If you're free I wouldn't mind the help. Your notes are very thorough." He told her and he was happy to see her mouth drop open a half inch before a blush swept over her face. "I usually come in a bit later on Saturdays when I work. Does 10am work for you?"
"That's ok with me. Should I bring my lunch?" She asked and he nodded but shrugged.
"There are some places around here that don't get too busy on weekends so if you want to buy you will have an hour or so to get food." He told her and she started to pack her things, leaving her notes spread out. She would make hell of a lawyer if she could do all of this and keep up with her classes.
"So meet here in this room or am I going to need a walk up here with security again." She asked as she fiddled with the badge she was given last time, but even today she was escorted up here.
"You shouldn't need anyone walking with you as long as they see the badge. We can meet down there, make sure security knows you don't." Alex knew that the security team down stairs were sometimes too much, but usually when someone came in more than 3 times it was okay. "I am going to get my things." He told her as he got his pen capped and he stood up. He unrolled his sleeves, getting up and stretching out a bit before he left her to finish collecting her things.
He met her at the elevators, the button pushed and she was on her phone. He looked over her now, seeing her hair all pushed back, her slacks and button up very formal. He wondered if she thought she had to dress like that. "And just so you know, you don't have to dress up here. You're welcome to wear what you wear to classes." He told her and she looked up and over at him before she looked down.
"Oh... okay. So jeans and a sweater are ok?" She asked and worked at her toes and he noticed she was also wearing sensible heels.
"Yeah, and boots to keep your feet warm if you want. We're laid back on dress code unless we have to be in court." He touched his own jacket and the coat in his hands was heavy but he would need it as he walked to the train and then to his mothers house.
"Ok. Thanks." Lena didn't know why she was thanking him like it was his idea... it was just a small gesture she could tell he wanted her and probably the men to be comfortable.
They rode in the elevator, she was messaging Ang that she would be home soon and she got no replies so she wondered if her friend would be home still when she got there or if she took up her new Salon friends up on going out for drinks after.
She was outside with Alex and they started to walk the same way. "Are you headed to the train?" He asked and she nodded slowly. "Not headed to Jersey are you?" He asked with a small laugh and she was smiling.
"No. Back towards campus. My roommate wanted me to go out to dinner to celebrate her new job but she's not messaging me back so I am sure she's already left." Lena shrugged and looked around. She was cold, but she could just imagine sinking into a hot bath tonight when she got home. Cold was worth feeling the heat sink back into her skin.
Her and Alex walked down the street as if they knew each other, very close, he put his arm around her when someone stopped to let them cross and kind of hurried her along. Three blocks later and she was going to the left side and he was going to the right so they said goodnight and see you tomorrow. The look on his face when he nodded to her before turning made her almost stop breathing, but in fact as she started down the stairs she started to breath a little heavier before getting to her platform. She had 4 minutes to the train, and as she scanned the other she saw him on his phone and she licked her lips.
He did look good. Tall, in a suit, his big coat now on, he looked powerful. His jaw, even from far away was defined, he had big hands, a joking smile that shows off white perfect teeth, and his eyes were blue, even if she couldn't see that from this far. He was pacing slightly, his laugh almost echoing as he talked to someone and she bit her lip and tried to seem busy on her phone when he started to scan the other side as well.
She looked up how long the train ride to New Jersey was and was surprised it was only an hour and a half. She looked up and around when she heard her train announced and she saw him staring her way. She smiled and stepped up as she saw the lights coming her way. She backed up when there were some people at her door getting out. She walked right in and found a good seat before she saw Angie's message about just getting out of the shower.
She was excited and would wait for her to get home before they left. While Lena wanted her to already be out, she was glad to get out later. She got home in record time and showered despite really wanting a bath. She got all made up and got to the club that Angie picked. They danced, Lena had one drink while Angie downed 3 shots, two other drinks, and they danced until 1am until Lena dragged her home.
They had some snacks, Lena set her alarms, and went to sleep almost right away. She closed her eyes and saw blue eyes looking at her up and down and smiling. That smile was going to be in her head for weeks.
She gave into her dreams, liking where it was taking her and when she woke up she knew that what happened in her delicious dreams would never happen in reality.
