Cora’s Point of View
I should there dumbfounded, guarding Lily against those hungry eyes. At least five guns were pointing at us. I felt helpless. It was impossible to take them down. Lily’s hands were trembling. What did they want?
“What do you want? Let us go,” I whispered, looking at Travis.
“What do I want?” He chuckled. “It’s not me, you b*tch. It’s Marco, our boss.” Then his filthy eyes fell on Lily.
“We are gonna sell you at a high price.” He spat, bringing a shiver down my spine.
“Co… Cora,” Lily mumbled.
I lost my voice. Lily’s body was pressed against my back.
“GET INSIDE,” Travis ordered us.
Lily was nothing more than a mere statue. I was also afraid to take any steps. We need to get out of this area.
“I said, get in,” Travis yelled, and with that, I heard a loud bang, then the sound of bullets. Lily jumped from her place. Travis was distracted for a moment. So were his men. I took the chance and kicked Travis again between his legs. The effect was instant. He fell on his knees, groaning in pain.
Grabbing Lily, I rushed towards the hallway. We need to get out of this d*mn place.
“Cora, what’s happening?” Lily asked as another loud noise caught my ears.
“I’ve no clue. We need to get out of here,” I replied.
We walked across the hallway only to reach another one. The manor was huge. The line of rooms on both sides of the corridor was giving it a hotel like architecture. After crossing all those closed black and brown doors, our legs finally hit a dead end, making me realise we were on the third floor. There was no way I could make our way out from here, especially with Lily by my side.
We turned around. Lily depended on me. Her limbs were just a second away from getting numb. The noise of gun shooting was everywhere. Lily whimpered in fear, hugging me suddenly as I heard a loud blast. What was happening? The entire house was in chaos. We shouldn’t waste any time. Gathering my strengths, I pulled Lily towards another corridor, looking for an elevator or staircase. That was of no use. It seemed that these hallways were like a maze. All those rooms looked the same. We kept walking in a circle, maybe, hitting several dead ends. Lily was panting badly.
“Lily, stay strong,” I whispered.
“Can’t run anymore,” she mumbled.
“Just a little more,” I consoled her as we reach another junction. An angry voice shook our world.
“FIND THOSE D*MN GIRLS!”
It was Travis. And we were standing just a few feet away. His eyes fell on me, clearly dissatisfied. I took a step back, embracing Lily. She was shivering.
“Here you are,” An evil grin formed on his lips. His eyes moved towards his men.
“Tell everyone to retreat and lure that bast*rd here. Boss will love this show,” he ordered. Some of his men quickly surrounded us, and some left with a nod.
“Drag this one inside the room,” Travis snapped again, making me flinch as he was talking about me this time.
His men separated me from Lily, despite our screams.
“LILY!’ I shouted.
She could hardly talk. Exhaustion took over, and slowly she gave in. Her tired eyes were watching me fight as they dragged me towards one of those black-brown doors. His men threw me on the ground. Travis came inside. His gun was pointing at my head. I was sitting on the floor, helplessly.
Then I heard those noises again. Suddenly the door became wide open, and bullets flew in from nowhere. All other men in the room fought back. All I could see was blood and dead bodies. I hid my head in my knees and covered my ears with my hands. It was too loud, too much blood. I had never encountered anything like this in my entire life. Was it the end of me? I would surely die in this chaos. Where was Lily? Was she okay? The surrounding became silent suddenly. Was it over? But another click sound proved me wrong.
“Look, who’s here,” Travis’ voice sounded sarcastic. I moved my head to see whom he was talking to.
The first thing my eyes saw was a gun pointing at my forehead. Travis was holding it. Then my eyes moved upwards only to find the face I never thought of seeing again. LORENZO! But he was different today. His face wasn’t wearing any haughty smile or mischievousness. Instead, his eyes looked murderous. And his hand was holding a… gun, pointing at Travis. There were other men in the room as well, and from their gesture, I could easily assume whom they were working for. Lorenzo. All those riffles were pointing at us or Travis.
“Let her go,” Lorenzo asserted. His voice brought a shiver down my spine.
“One move and I’m gonna shoot right between her eyebrows,” Travis replied. His voice was unexpectedly calm.
“You are in no position to negotiate,” I saw a man talking, standing right by Lorenzo.
“Is that so?” Travis smirked.
My eyes fell on Lorenzo once. This face wasn’t wearing any expression. His aura was intimidating.
“Let her go,” he repeated.
“Let me go, and I’ll send her back, unharmed,” Travis negotiated.
Lorenzo stood there in silence. He wasn’t even looking at me, not for once. For a moment, I felt sad.
“You have my words,” Travis spoke again.
Slowly, I saw Lorenzo lowering his gun. He peeped at his men, and they all nodded meaningfully. Then his eyes finally shifted at me.
“Trust me.” His lips formed a bitter-sweet smile.
His men retreated from their position, making way for Travis. Travis glared at Lorenzo once, and then he smirked, “come on. Get up.”
His words were for me. I was unsure of the negotiation. I didn’t trust that man, not for once. He wanted to sell Lily somewhere. How could I trust him?
“GET UP,” Travis raised his voice.
Lowering his gun, he held my hand and forced me to stand up. One moment he was grasping my hand. On the other, I heard a loud bang. His grip loosened, and quickly I pushed him away. My eyes travelled towards the shooter. To my wonder, Lily was standing there, holding a gun in her trembling hand.
Everyone was shocked for a moment. Lorenzo recovered fast enough to target Travis again. My hands, my clothes, all were stained with his blood. Slowly he fell on the floor, and his heart stopped forever. My eyes shifted towards Lorenzo once. His aloofness was giving me a hard time. And then my gaze travelled towards Lily. She was on the verge of breaking down. I could hardly believe she shot someone for my shake.
Without wasting any time, I ran towards her and hugged her. Her underwear was hiding her curves, leaving the bloodstained skin on display. Slowly we both fell on the ground, embracing each other.
“I killed him… Cora… I… I… shoot him…” her voice was unsteady, so was she. Her torso was trembling like anything. She was soft inside and couldn’t stand fights. It was a massive blow for her.
“It’s okay… it’s over now,” I caressed her back to comfort her.
“I… I killed him,” she mumbled again. Her tears were flooding my shoulder.
“Lily… Hush,” I rubbed her back and caressed the back of her head. She buried her face on my shoulder. Sobs filled the air.
I didn’t know how long I was holding her until a deep voice grabbed our attention.
“I came all the way to save you, and this is what I get?”
I pulled away from Lily and fixed my eyes at Lorenzo. He was behind all these. My life was peaceful until he showed up. Those guys! I never even knew them, neither they did. This had to be for him. Clearly, he wasn't just a businessman. I stood up from my position and glared at him. Slowly, I made my way towards him. My blood was boiling with anger. I could never forget what he did three years back; I would never forget how he kidnapped me and drugged me. And now this.
Closing the distance between us, I stood tall. His eyes looked amused. I knew what I had to do. Gathering my strength, I gave him a tight slap that echoed in the room.
“This was all your fault! I never want to see you in my life ever again, Lorenzo.”
