Chapter 13

1046 Words
The vile creatures snarled and dashed towards us, on top of the car. With my power I made Eva strong and fearless, so she'd be able to handle these creatures. The battle started and I was merciless at slaying these evil creatures who were sent to assassinate us. Perhaps Pandora knew I was gonna come visit Douglas. No! She doesn't have the power to monitor my every step any more. I had seized such power from her but that didn't mean she couldn't spy on others spiritually. She must have detected Avelyn or her mate who informed her of this. Whatever, it was from another person, not me. She got to know this from another shifter. Before, witches and vampires weren't in the wolf world. Being the greatest enemies of our species, they stayed far away, perhaps in their own territory but after Pandora assumed the position of the luna queen, things changed. Imagine how witches and vampires, hybrids, would possess the courage to not only come within the territories of the werewolves but attempt to attack me, their wolf queen. Being the winner of Miss Wolf, I had equal powers like the luna queen during my tenure. I slashed their necks with my sword, Eva did the same. Anyone of them that came closer to us suffered the same fate. In three minutes after the fight began, twelve of them had gone down. Our silver swords gave us a greater advantage as vampires hated silvers just as the sun. We saw with our eyes as these twelve burnt to ashes before us. The eight left were more ferocious than ever, they jumped attempting to prey on us. Eva would have been devoured at the slightest instance but I caught the hybrid that tried doing that and slashed him to pieces. Others followed suit, in this way they were gone with not even a single blood on the ground. A great mystery! As they burned, they disappeared into thin air, never to be seen or heard of again. Two were left at last. "Why do you fight our queen, do you think you'd defeat her." One of them asked. Here, I realized who had sent them. It was the luna queen, Pandora. These were fellow hybrids like her. "She'll defeat you at last even if you defeat us." The other threatened. "Arrrgh!" Eva exclaimed puzzled. She must be shocked and afraid that this would come true. I made a signal to her not to be afraid. The two hybrids left were done with within a twinkle of an eye and we remembered no such incident. It was history now and history is best kept as history. The thought of visiting Douglas and rushing him to get appropriate medical attention as soon as possible flashed across our minds. Hoping nothing happened to the prince, I got disgusted and annoyed about the obstruction the hybrids set for us on the way. I wondered what exactly it was for. Could it be to delay so something would happen to Prince Douglas or was it just to eliminate us, an assassination attempt? I drove furiously into the night. Darkness threw in on us once again. We were just meters to the royal dungeon and the roads that led to it had no light. It was dark as a vampire's den but with my goddess eyes I saw through even when Eva complained a bit about the darkness. It was clear as ever, just like day, to me. In two minutes, my car pulled up at the gate of the royal dungeon. It horned. "It's Queen Cassandra, here to visit my royal client. Open up please!" The giant gate of the prison rolled to both sides and I drove in. I packed the car at the stone floor, some inches from the door of the main building where Douglas was. "I need you to tuck your sword quite well. Keep your eyes everywhere and your ears smart to hear even the quietest steps," I said almost in a whisper to my buddy, Eva. We fastened our immaculate clean silver swords to the side of our trousers in a way that would be easy to retrieve and use for defense in the case of an attack. "Can you escort me to where Douglas is, right now?" I commanded, my voice sounding like thunder. This command was directed towards the Chief Security Officer whom I detected was an ardent supporter of Pandora. Fearing for his job, he had no option. He just has to stick to his loyalty towards her. I didn't blame him for this yet if I don't thunder at him, he won't mind me. I had to show him that Pandora had no higher power than me in the shifter world, rather it was me who had far more greater power with everything combined together. We walked through the damn stone corridor upstairs and into a narrow corner with wall lamps making me catch sight of the guards that were positioned at strategic positions. The officer stopped and gestured to a cell that was locked from the outside with the golden light from a lamp inside being the only source of light. I sighted Avelyn's mate, the officer that informed of this fateful occurrence. In a normal case, I would move closer to thank him but I kept my pace to avoid placing him in any trouble. He might be at the risk of losing his job and freedom if it became openly known that he'd been the informer. "Open the door!" I commanded the chief. He gestured to one of the guards standing over, at the extreme end, not too far. He walked up to us with a bunch of keys in his hands. The door was opened before us, Eva and I stepped inside rushing towards Douglas. There on the floor close to the wall, he lay motionless. Terror struck my bones. I'd never been frightened before like this. Eva locked gaze with me, with tears in her eyes. I gestured with my hands and she took hold of Douglas' hands while I positioned myself by his legs. We carried him outside into our car and out of the premises of the prison, into the darkness once again.
