Chapter 9

"When I arrived at the palace, there were so many guards at the gate, staff all around and even at the castle where the king and queen reside but I got past them." I began. Eva's eyes fixed steadily to me like she was the accuser in court paying attention to the verdict of the judge which was me in this case.

"So how did you get past them?" She asked with a frightening gaze and her face shaking in terror.

"What do you mean?" I joked. "Do you play with me?" She smiled.

"I know you're a shifter but like, come on, tell me how you did that." Eva urged.

"Whatever!" I gestured with my hands and burst out into laughter.

"You haven't really told me anything."

I knew she wanted to discover how I passed through the heavily secured residence of the king and queen without being obstructed by the security personnel who are permitted to let only those with passes in. She was earnest to know this.

"Well, you seem too curious." I decided to place Eva in a little suspense before I told her what happened.

"No, no, no. I don't take that for an answer. You need to tell me or lest I'll not let you rest." Eva once again began to show her persistence, if I didn't tell her, she wouldn't let me rest as she claims.

"I'll tell you, just chill."

"Do you think I will? No." Eva responded with all amount of determination to know what went on at our fateful meeting. "Pandora is a wild and evil creature who neither fears nor respects anybody, she either drives to death or imprisoned anyone that stands in her path. I'm really eager to hear the proceedings."

"She even threatened to imprison me."

"What!" Eva screamed with her jaw dropped and eyes wide open.

"Yes, she did." I nodded my head, adding in unison to the statement I made last.

"What prompted her to say this to a crowned Wolf Queen like you?" Hurt and guilt fell on Eva's face, she seemed to be more worried than I myself.

"Actually, it was when I informed her I'll be taking the risk of rescuing his stepson on on my shoulders. She got extremely annoyed. It was here she made that statement but good news!" I clapped my hands in joy, like I just remembered something.

"What dear?"

"I've withdrawn her power to have a clue of my actions or next action. We're all guaranteed privacy now." Eva smiled so wide.

"How did you do that?"

"I smashed her magic mirror which she uses to watch the world, especially those she hates like me. I also seized her internal power of insight and black vision."

"Wow, this' unbelievable but I still doubt it. I'm a shifter like you but I've never experienced any of this power. I would love to have a taste of it." My close friend was really thirsty for power which was very far away from her reach.

"We are not the same." I repeated the favorite old cliche. She smirked playfully and I rolled my eyes. "But that's the truth!"

"Yes, I know that. But we don't really know much about you. I'd love to know more about you."

Eva was tempting me to reveal what I didn't want to say. I wouldn't tell her for sure who I am. "Do you care about that?"

"Yes for sure, you're our queen and we know less about you except from your pack."

"Yes, I think that's the only requirement to be the wolf queen. I'm from the Moonglow Pack, and my name is Cassandra Moonglow. In our pack, all members of the pack bear the same surname. What else?"

"That's the only thing we know about you."

"Sure, and I want to keep the rest personal. You know I love a confidential life." Though Eva was a close friend of mine, I liked it that way. It would be fatal to reveal much about myself to anyone, not even her. The only one that knows much about me is Lucinda, who is now acting on my behalf in the celestial world.

Revealing to anyone about my original status would be disastrous to my mission, I wouldn't be able to complete it the way I've planned. It's my will to live a normal life like every other wolf queen but if I tell of my status, that wouldn't work. People would treat me for who I am, they might fear coming close to me.

Eva was no longer persisting. It was a privilege I was giving her to show some familiarity, there's no other staff that's this close to me. "Am alright with your opinion my queen!" She replied. I liked it that way, she respected my opinion.

"That's by the way dear, I wanted to talk about Douglas. See how terrible his current situation is. My dream is to get that young man out of jail but along the way I need some close assistance. Will I be able to trust you? It's a question to test your loyalty, more than any, I need your honesty."

Eva looked straight into my eyes, with all elements of seriousness. "I will be truly honest and loyal to you. I can't betray you, you know that." I thought to myself, recalling how Eva had been loyal to me right from the first day I employed her into my foundation. She has never given me any reason to question her loyalty. I can trust her with the secrets concerned with rescuing Douglas but I'll not tell her not anyone else where I come from.

"Right, okay. I will trust you Eva. It'll go a long way to get Douglas out of that prison, and get him back to normal life but above all, my wish is to make him assume the throne as the king."

"That's a great goal but what's your gain in this? Like why did you choose to aid him?"

I shot a quick glance at her. "What would you say if I told you I didn't gain anything?" Eva gazed at me a little confused, she must be thinking is there anyone that would do something as risky and complicated as what I was about doing without gaining anything. Well, in this I wouldn't really hope to gain anything physically but sure my children would be in a better state once I'm able to complete my mission.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes," I replied. "But that's not really the major issue. I want you to work together with me to achieve this aim."

"Sure!"

"Deal?" I asked.

"Yes, deal." Eva confirmed and we interlocked our palms in agreement.

"I'd love to celebrate our partnership with a little exclusive party. That'll be in the evening."

Eva smiled to my suggestion, my heart was gladdened I have someone I can trust. Lucinda would be watching me from above happy that at least I had a partner who has agreed to help me in this case.

We have to start planning our strategy. From today my life ceases to be a normal one but a life aimed at achieving the most complicated goal in the wolf world.
