Chapter 8

When I arrived at my apartment, the glass residential house at Matama Estate, ten kilometers from my Foundation's residence, I went straight to the bathroom to wash myself. The sun has been so hot and I needed a cool shower as it was getting to noon. Eva emerges from her room and steps in front of me. "Glad you're back. Hope you weren't hurt? What happened at your encounter with the queen?" She was so anxious to know what went on between us. I mean no true friend would care less. "Nothing really, I'll inform you later. I need to take lunch. I'm really tired." I was exhausted actually and I needed rest. Eva knew I'd loved to be left alone at this moment. "So can I bring in your food from the kitchen?" I nodded to her enquiry. She turned to leave while I continued to my dressing room. Eva wasn't only my staff at the foundation but a close friend, she's the one I shared most of my life experiences with except the spiritual, who I was. That's a no-no. After work, she comes home to my luxurious building. I'm in no way related to her but the first time I set my eyes on her after winning the Miss Wolf Pageantry, I felt she was someone to have by my side. Luckily she accepted to be my staff and close friend. Eva is someone you'd call pretty and slender, she dresses smart all the time and is most of the time thoughtful. She's a young woman full of insight and a great critique, not in the negative side though but the positive. She's always a constant source of inspiration to me. I changed into my favorite black jean trouser, which has a golden crown design stamped in front and a yellow top, almost like a golden color. I slipped into my rubber slippers, white in color with some multi-color designs. I stare into the giant mirror in front of me and I look super-sweet. The only thing left for me to do is to dry my long and curly golden honey blonde hair well. Picking up my hand-drier from the table, I begin to dry it. In ten minutes flat, I was done. The comb did the rest of the work, I tied the hair round with an elastic black band. The dining room today is the one on the second floor, the giant building had over ten different dining rooms to serve different occasions and days. Today I just feel like using this particular dining room on the second floor because of the confidentiality. It is designed for only two people, Eva and I in this case. Whenever we had an important issue worthy of discussion, she came here to have breakfast, lunch or dinner with me. As she walks into the room with a tray of steaming food, I heave a sigh of relief. No matter how disettled you are, when you see the food you like, it can calm you down. For the moment, this food was my pill, my remedy. "La-la." Eva kidded. It was her favorite gesture whenever we were set to have a special dish. "What did you cook today?" I smiled at her. She blushed rolling her eyes at me, like why do you mind. Her own way of putting someone in suspense. I stretched out my hands again in a gesture since she hadn't replied to my first question. "Dough and turkey soup, honey cake and strawberry juice!" Eva finally replied. "Wow, this' awesome. At least I can have a wonderful afternoon full of pleasant niceties." "You haven't told me what happened before the queen." She reminded me. I nodded in acceptance. "Yea, I will. Do you think I forgot?" "No, not at all." She shook her head. "Well, let's sit down to eat first." When I had the food into my mouth, the scent that hit my nose and the delicious taste on my tongue was indescribable. I hadn't tasted the food all when I sensed the bliss I was setting to. "Did you cook this yourself, Eva?" "Yes, Your Majesty." She smiled in between mouthfuls of food. "There you go again, I told you not to address me thus again?" Well, I'd asked Eva to treat me as her friend and sister whenever we are alone. Let official lifestyle and the title be saved for the office and in the public. "So sorry!" Her voice was dragging like she lost track of where she was going. "That's not an issue as long as you remember it." Our dinner lasted for half an hour. After I'd consumed my turkey and baked compliments, I felt the urge to beckon Eva to bring more but I have to practice self-discipline at this point. This is the top attribute I've made plans of upholding till I'm done with my mission. Without it, I'd easily stray from my part. "Let me take the dishes off." Eva told me. "No, don't stress yourself, okay?" This isn't what I brought her in for, she isn't a slave, just someone I can speak to when I'm lonely, someone I can seek joint counsel from. "Cook?" I called out. In a minute, an average height hefty man with great muscles and beauty approached me. He bowed in courtesy as he entered the room, his face lit up with a smile across his face. Mark is always a happy person and I admire this feature greatly. "Yes, Your Majesty." "You can take the dishes away." I was neither familiar nor strict in my tone but I kept indifferent like most top people did at times. Mark bowed in respect and gently carried the tray containing the dishes away. After he was gone, my gaze returned to Eva. "What were you saying?" We began again. "Tell me about your encounter with the evil tyrant queen. Were you able to withstand her?" Her face was anxious, worried and frustrated. She was feeling bad thinking something cruel occurred to me in the process. "Success is not truly success if you aren't done with your mission." I replied coldly looking out of the window into the magnificent garden in the backyard. "What do you mean?" Eva gazed confused at me. "I thought you at least….." "Wait, you'll know," I snapped. "Guess what Queen Pandora said to me?"
