4. The Mechanic

One Week Later...   "Daddy, you really don't have to do this. I can just take it to a garage or something," I tell him, following him into the kitchen.   "Honey, it's just the oil and brake pads. I know what I'm doing and I got a buddy of mine coming over to help. Don't worry," he says and I feel myself give in.   I sigh. "Alright. If you need me to do anything, just ask."   He smiles and hugs me. "Will do, darlin'. You need to run anywhere, you can take the truck. Okay?"   I nod. "Okay, Daddy."   While he heads to the garage, I find today's newspaper and sift through until I find the 'help wanted' section. I spot an ad for a position at a construction company as an assistant and something tells me to call. The line rings a couple of times before a woman answers.   "Kahn Construction. This is Tabitha," she greets.   "Uh, hi. My name's Aurora Cameron. I was calling about your ad in the paper."   "You're hired," she says, surprising the crap out of me.   "I'm sorry?" Did I hear her right? I only gave her my name and reason for calling.   "You have an awesome name and I like it, so you're hired. Be here on Tuesday at nine a.m.. Address is in the ad," she explains and hangs up.   I sit there for a good minute before putting the phone down. How odd was that situation? Most employers want to run a background check and contact your references. But hey, at least it's a job and, according to the ad, it pays twelve bucks an hour.   A squeal of excitement bursts from me, only to be cut off by a deep chuckle. I spin around to see Dominic and a totally gorgeous man I don't know standing there. They both have grease on their hands from my car, making the gorgeous man even more gorgeous and rugged.   He can't be any older than his late twenties or early thirties. His hair is a very dark blonde, almost brown and his eyes are a fierce blue. He has a strong, defined jawline that is covered in a thick stubble and his big body looks as if it was sculpted by an artist. I also notice some tattoos running up one of his arms. Yeah, God broke the mold when he made this creature.   Dominic's voice brings me from my staring session. "Rora, this is Tucker Kahn. He's the buddy of mine I was telling you about," he says.   "Oh, well it's a pleasure to meet you," I tell him. I notice now that his eyes have been on me the entire time.   His eyes smile and he clears his throat. "You, too," he rumbles.   Dominic looks between the two of us before shaking his head. "I need your keys, darlin'," he states.   "Oh, right."   I head downstairs and grab my purse from on top of my bed. I find my keys and head back upstairs. I hand them to him and they head back outside. While they get back to work, I try to think of something to make for dinner. I haven't got the chance to cook since Daddy has done it since I got here and I should probably start doing things around the house. Thirty minutes later, I make my way outside to the garage, purse in tow. I'm dressed in shorts and flip flops today since it's kind of hot out and the summer temperatures are making an appearance.   I see Dad and Tucker hovering under the hood of my green Dodge Challenger and smile. "Daddy?" I call and they both look up at me.   "Yeah, darlin'?"   "Can I have the keys to your truck? I need to run to the grocery store."   He nods and tosses them to me. I catch them just in time and thank him before heading to his Ford pick up. I make it to the local Wal-Mart about twenty minutes later and grab a cart. My phone rings as I turn into the deli and I rummage through my purse to find it.   "Hello?"
