Chapter 6 Do You Deserve?

Frederic's eyes froze. His eyes flickered with concern. "Huh? Joey, what are you talking about?" A faint mockery appeared on Joey's delicate face. "Why do you assume I haven't tried? What if I just lost 2000cc of blood? Would you still ask me to donate for her?" "Joey, stop being unreasonable. The maximum blood loss during menstruation is only around 60cc. If you're making excuses, at least make them convincing." Joey smiled bitterly. She had made things so clear, yet he still didn't believe her. If he even cared for her just a little, he would've inquired out of concern. If he even understood her in the slightest, he would know that she was not someone who would stand by and watch someone die. And that was the difference between how one treated those they loved and those they didn't. Scarlett's small wound made him so flustered, while he didn't even notice the dangers Joey went through during her risky miscarriage surgery. Just as Joey was in pain, she saw that person's figure at the door of the hospital room. Joey instantly stood still in shock. When she lost her consciousness that day, she saw a figure. She heard a man's gentle and low voice calling out to her. With great effort, she forced her eyes open and came face-to-face with the man standing before her. Her memory of him was crystal clear. She grasped the man's arm tightly and pleaded in a hoarse whisper, "Please, help me." When she woke up, Pamela told her that she had been brought by a handsome guy wearing glasses. Joey let out a self-deprecating laugh before approaching Martin and whispering, "Are you Scarlett Parlance's brother?" Martin nodded faintly, his voice gentle. "Ms. Renfro, if you have any issues with your health, I can..." Joey resignedly closed her eyes. Heaven really wasn't stingy with her. The person she had always wanted to repay for saving her life turned out to be Scarlett's brother. "Mr. Palance, can we talk in private?" She bitterly smiled and said. Joey was about to take Martin to the nearby stairwell when Frederic tightly grabbed her wrist. "Why do you want to talk to him in private? Is there something you can't say in front of me?" Joey sneered. "Say it in front of you? Do you deserve to know?" Without waiting for Frederic's reaction, she directly broke free from his control. Under Frederic's stern gaze, she walked to the side with Martin. There was no trace of color on Joey's originally delicate face. She tilted her head and looked at Martin's handsome face, then spoke, "Mr. Palance, you saved my life that day. I haven't had a chance to thank you. I didn’t expect to come across an opportunity to repay you so soon. Rest assured, I will donate blood for your sister, but I have one request. I hope Mr. Palance will keep the matter of saving me a secret." Martin's eyebrows tightened slightly, his voice gentle. "The baby is Frederic's, right?" Joey smiled faintly. "That doesn't matter now. It's gone anyway. I just don't want this matter to affect my decision." She didn't know how Frederic would react upon learning this; she simply didn't want to complicate matters further and wished to leave his side as soon as possible. Martin's gaze darkened for a moment. For a second, he seemed to see his mother in Joey. His heart skipped a beat, and he asked with concern, "But you had heavy bleeding at that time. It hasn't been many days since then. Are you sure your body can handle it?" Joey sneered. "That's my business. I just want to repay your kindness. After this, we won't owe each other anything." "You don't have to do this. I'm not that kind of person. If your body doesn't allow it, I won't force you." "I don't like owing favors to others, especially people related to Scarlett. Mr. Palance, I hope you won't forget our agreement." After Joey finished speaking, she nodded slightly toward Martin and then walked over to the nurse who had been waiting. "Take me for a blood draw." "Joey Renfro!" Frederic forcefully pulled her back, his gaze intense. "Why did you want to talk to Martin? Are you hiding something from me?" Joey coldly looked at him, a faint smile playing on her lips. "What? Afraid that I'll find him as the next sugar daddy? Rest assured, even if I'm desperate, I won't go after your buddy." She mercilessly freed herself from Frederic's grip and walked with the nurse. Frederic felt as if his heart was inexplicably hit hard. He stared at Joey's retreating figure, hands slowly clenching into fists. Twenty minutes later, Joey came out of the ward. Her small face, usually the size of a palm, was as pale as a sheet. Her originally moist and delicate lips had lost any trace of color, her eyes were dull, and her body swayed. Leaning against the wall, she walked out along the corridor. Frederic quickened his pace and caught up, bending down to lift her into his arms. There was an indescribable emotion in his eyes. "I'll take you to rest." However, before he could move, a voice came from behind. "Mr. Adamson, Ms. Palance is emotionally unstable. She's crying and wants to see you. Please go and take a look." Joey's gaze remained calm as she looked at Frederic. A sarcastic smile played on her pale lips. During the blood draw, she felt her vision darken, wanting to slip into unconsciousness, but she held on and came out of the ward. When she saw Frederic approaching, she still harbored a slight hope. She wanted to tell him that her body couldn't hold on any longer and ask him to take her away. However, upon hearing the nurse's words, she self-mockingly smiled. Between Scarlett and her, Frederic had never chosen her. Sure enough, Frederic only hesitated for a moment before putting her down and sternly instructing, "Wait here." Joey seemed to calmly watch Frederic place her on the ground and rush into Scarlett's ward. However, the next moment, she immediately lowered her head to hide her already moist eyes. "Ms. Renfro, let me take you back." Martin came over to help Joey, but she pushed him away. She looked at him stubbornly, her voice cold as she replied, "Mr. Palance, any favors between us have been settled. I don't want to owe you anything anymore!" She supported herself on the wall with one hand and slowly walked outside. She felt her legs trembling, her vision growing darker, and almost all the strength leaving her body. However, she still forced herself to come down from upstairs. Out of the sight of the Palance family and away from Frederic. But she hadn't walked far when her body couldn't take it anymore. Her vision went black, and she collapsed toward the floor. Just as she thought she was going to take a nasty fall face-first into the concrete ground, a large hand caught her by the waist. A nervous voice echoed in her ears. "Joey!"
