His voice echoed on my ears. Though he spoke coldly but it sounded warm to me.
I couldn't help but stare at his eyes intently.
"You are blushing." He said.
I stepped back suddenly, covering my cheeks. "No, I am not!" I refuted then pushed him aside. I entered the house lowering my head because of shame. 'What was happening to me?'
And as I raised my head, I was unable to close my mouth.I was stunned to see the transformation of my house.
The almost empty house became fully occupied. The living room now has a big television, the windows got fixed, new curtains, new sofas, and the doors were changed into a face scanner lock.
I checked the kitchen, the bathroom, the entire house and everything was changed. My simple house became like an extravagant suit.
"Is this my house?" I asked astonishingly. "What did you do to my house?"
"My company is just giving you some benefits. And it was this. Since you always get into trouble, I secured the doors and windows already. You don't have to worry anymore. No one can easily barge into your house from now on if you don't forget to close your door." Came his voice behind me.
I turned back to him. "What an honor to receive such treatment from the Chairman. You even personally take good care of it."
"This is nothing much." He said, hands were resting in his pocket.
"Ohhh. Are you in a hurry? If not, stay for a while to eat. At least I could thank you a little for all of these."
"Okay."
I immediately busied myself in the kitchen. He offered to help but I refused, so the whole time I cooked he was at the side, watching me.
I felt a bit embarrassed the way he looked at me. I didn't know why, since earlier he seemed a bit weird or maybe it was all just my wishful thinking. Why was he staring at me so intently? Why did his coldness towards me seem lessened? Was he really the weird one or me? I assumed things too much.
I only cooked noodles spaghetti. Right after it's done, I served each of us a plate filled with it and two glasses of juice.
He was like Muwin, he only stared at the food. Don't tell me he could not eat hot food too?
"Aren't you going to eat? Not suit to your taste or-"
I hadn't finished my sentence yet when he picked the fork and began to eat. I watched him. Even eating, he was with a poise and refined manner.
I couldn't take off my eyes from him. I was unable to. I was unable to shift my eyes to anywhere else. His thick brows, his sharp nose, his deep almond eyes, his delicate smooth face and hmmmm his lips charmed me. All in all, his good look was unparalleled, a perfect view that couldn't help others but to turn their head to stare.
I gulped but there's actually none to gulp because my mouth dried up by just looking at him, feeling hot. I cupped my face because I felt like it was burning.
He raised his head and met my eyes. There, I finally saw life. It was no longer that cold like how it usually does. Was I dreaming?
"What's wrong?" Ouch! His cold powerful voice woke me. "Is there something on my face?" He added.
My head lowered as I shook my head as a response. 'What's wrong with you?' I scolded myself.
We ate all the food from our plate without saying a word. Just as I was about to stand to clean the dishes, the rain suddenly dropped very strong on the roof. Like it was trying to destroy the house.
Outside was crowded, it seemed there's a storm but the quietness inside between us was making me deaf.
I wanted to chat with him but I didn't know how to open up a topic.
I saw him looking at his watch. He might be wanting to go home but rain was teasing. It was more likely it wouldn't stop before morning came.
I offered him books to read while I crouched on a couch as I watched a movie on my laptop. And unintentionally I fell asleep.
When a call of nature woke me, as I opened my eyes I was already in my room. I remembered clearly I was in the living room earlier with him. Did he carry me to my room?
I looked for him and I saw him having a nap on a couch. Still in a sitting position.
I bent forward and watched his sleeping face closely but I was startled as he suddenly opened his eyes.
Due to the abrupt backward step I took and forgot that there was a table behind me, I fell lying on my back as I tripped my legs at the edge of the table. Though Murphy caught me, I still dragged him down.
First, we both fell on the table then rolled down on the floor. He was so sweet, he secured my head not to get hurt by hugging me in his arms.
We landed on the floor with him on top of me and we stayed in that position for quite a few minutes.
He looked so damn hot with the position. His white face reddened a bit as he was staring at me. I saw his Adam's apple moving up and down. He was swallowing and so I.
Our hearts beat fast in sync and we couldn't shift our sight. Like, we were both staring down at each other's soul.
I might be possessed by a strange spirit because I couldn't help but lift my head and slowly reach his mouth to kiss. But as mine was about to touch his lips, his phone sounded and vibrated.
Then we were embarrassed as we stood apart as fast as thunder.
"It's Dusk!" He said in a hoarse way and it sounded a bit disappointed.
What? Seriously?
"Stop it!" He said to the phone, a bit annoyed. "Okay! Okay! I got it!"
Just a small talk and then he ended the call. He checked his watch as he faced me back. "It's still past 3:00AM. Get back some more sleep and remember to lock your room." He said authoritatively.
Whoahh? Was he using his boss's side on me now?
"But the rain hasn't stopped yet!" I answered awkwardly.
"What? Don't you want me to leave?"
"What nonsense are you spouting about? I am just worried, okay? What if you get sick after dashing under the rain?"
He brought his fist over his mouth and feigned a cough as he looked at me meaningfully after hearing what I said.
Oh no! Did I just say something that he misunderstood?
"Don't-don't misunderstand, I am just worried as your newly hired assistant. I don't want others to gossip that I wasn't worthy of my job because I let my boss get sick on my first day."
"Alright! Alright! I haven't said a word yet but you are already defending. You don't have to worry. Dusk was outside. He is here to pick me up. I don't think the rain can get me wet inside the car."
"Oh!" The only word or maybe it was just a sound that came out to mouth.
******
With 6 inches black shoes, I strode fast because I didn't want to be late on my very first day. I heard last time that Murphy came to work 30 minutes before working hours. Now it was still 7:25AM but I was already rushing to reach the tower's main door. Well, we had similar habits.
Right after I stepped in on my feet, I sprained my ankle. Anticipating for a bad fall, I closed my eyes but a second after, two long arms grabbed me into his embrace.
Seriously? A coincidence with him again?
I was unable to open my eyes due to embarrassment I felt for always making a fool of myself in front of him.
But in another second, I was stupefied when a powerful aggressive hand snatched me from the arms of the person who caught me from falling.
As I opened my eyes, the unfathomable gaze of my new boss was focused on me.
"Mr. Aderson?" I blurted.
I was shocked as I glanced at the other man next to us whom I found the tower's guard and also shocked like I.
I actually first thought it was Murphy. But why Murphy who just came pushed him and snatched me away?
"Can you still walk?" He asked as I looked back at him.
"Yes." I replied and so he let go of me. But as I took a step, I lurched in pain in my ankle.
I heard him sighed audibly but unexpectedly without a word, Murphy stooped and gently carried me in his arms.
Jaw dropping, eyes jutting out and feet glued to the floor. That was all the reactions of the early employees around as they witnessed their cold unreachable Chairman carrying a girl in his arms for the very first time.
"Mr. Aderson, what are you doing? Put me down." I whispered to him. "People are looking at us. I'm afraid they will misunderstand this."
"I wasn't even worrying about that. Why would you?" He said, walking straight to the elevator.
Me, being in his arms, made me embarrassed. So I hid my face on his chest because I might collapse if I would meet the envious and meaningful gazes of the employees we ran in the hallway.
But hmmmm, he smells so good. 'Wavina what are you doing?' I lectured myself.
As we reached his office, he put me down on the couch. But I didn't expect him to squat and began to remove my shoe.
"Mr. Aderson, what are you doing?" I said, trying to retract my foot.
"Don't move." Said by his authoritative voice that immediately made me still.
His hold was gentle but strong. As I was not struggling to take my foot anymore, he began to massage my ankle. It was gentle and comfortable. Because of it, I suddenly felt weird activities in my stomach.
"Does it still hurt?" He asked, looking up on me.
"Not anymore." I shook my head, looking away.
"Can you be more careful next time?"
He held my head to look at him. "Wavina, look at me. You can't get hurt. Do you understand?"
His cold eyes were now emotional as it stared at me deeply. Weird. Was he caring for me? Or I just misread it?
