CH.3

(Aspen's pov)

I'm standing in the restroom still and my nerves are shot. I really don't want to go out there and face all those guys, only to end up without my mate. Trini walks in and says,

"Girl, what the hell are you doing in here? The party has started and there are a lot of people here. Get your butt out here and find your mate and enjoy your party."

I look at her and shake my head. Then tell her I can't do it. I can't go out there and face all those guys and end up without my mate. Trini, I still haven't heard from my wolf and the night is almost over. She walks up to me puts her hands on my shoulders, and says,

"Aspen I love you but you need to get it together. Your wolf can probably sense how stressed you are and that's why she hasn't come forward and so what if you don't find your mate tonight, We will just grow old together and be old bitties who live together and have 50 cats." she jokes.

I burst out laughing and say, I hate cats but I love you. I take a deep breath and walk out of the restroom with my best friend. As we get closer to the door of the hall, I'm hit with a smell that has all my senses going crazy.

Trini looks at me and says, "Are you ok?" I nod my head and say yeah it's just whatever that smell is, it has me going crazy.

she looks at me and says "I smell all kinds of different colognes, these wolves don't know how to only add a little."

We walk through the doors and look for Wyatt. Once we spot him, we head over to him and he asks where I've been. I tell him I had a moment and needed to breathe, so I went to the restroom. He pulls me in for a hug and says,

"You got this squirt. Go find your man and enjoy your party." I kiss his cheek and tell him he's the best big brother/friend in the world.

I see a few girls that I hang out with at school standing near the food table, so I walk over to them and as soon as they see me they squeal, "OH MY GODDESS Aspen, happy birthday girl! This party was what we all needed and having the ball with it was a great idea. Tell your parents thank you for us!" We talked for a few mins and then that smell hit me again. I look around but nothing. There are so many people here now it's hard to see the other side of the room. I decide to grab Trini and walk around to greet people. We are halfway through the crowd when my parents get on the stage to make an announcement. "THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING OUT TO CELEBRATE OUR BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER ASPEN'S 18TH BIRTHDAY AND TO SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE LOVE OF YOUR LIVES. WE WANT EVERYONE TO HAVE FUN AND GET TO KNOW OTHERS FROM THE NEIGHBORING PACKS WHO HAVE COME ALL THIS WAY FOR TONIGHT. BEFORE YOU ALL LEAVE, IF YOU HAVE FOUND A MATE PLEASE PUT YOUR NAMES DOWN AT THE DOOR. WE WANT TO SEE HOW THIS GOES TONIGHT TO DECIDE IF WE WILL HOLD FUTURE BALLS FOR MATES TO FIND EACH OTHER. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR COMING. NOW GO ENJOY THE PARTY." Everyone claps and then goes back to what they were doing.

We see a group of guys I played ball with, talking to a group of guys I've never seen before so we walk up to introduce ourselves and one of the guys looks at me and says,

"Damn who is this?" I look up and say hello, my name is Aspen. I am the beta's daughter and the birthday girl.

He smiles and says "well happy birthday, Miss Aspen. Want to dance?" Trini practically pushes me into his arms and says, "I'm going to find Wyatt."

I'm left with this group of overly macho guys and they are talking about screwing different girls like I'm not even here. Talk about respect for women. ugh, I'm going to kill Trini. I ask the guy who wanted to dance what his name is and he says,

"My name is Mikael. I'm from green moon pack and so are the other guys I'm with except we are missing one. I don't know where that f*cker went."

I ask who the missing guy is and he says, "It's our future Alpha, Hardin."

We dance for a while and talk but I can tell he is checking out other girls. What a douchebag. Then he says,

"Do you want to go talk? It's too loud in here and it's hot. I need some air." I decide getting some air is a good idea and figure what harm could come from walking outside to talk.

We walk outside and there are several people out here talking. He asks if we could go somewhere a little more private like maybe sit in their SUV and talk. I agree to walk over to it.

(Hardin's pov)

I decided to go back to the party after exploring the event hall and find my friends. I'm kind of bored and ready to go. I feel bad I didn't get to meet the birthday girl. I see Jakob, Thomas, and Walker but Mikael isn't in sight. I walk up to the guys and ask where he is and they say, he went to dance with the birthday girl but hasn't come back. I went to look for him and ended up thinking like him to figure out where he went. If I was a man w***e where would I go? He's probably outside making out with some she-wolf. I'll go break it up and let him know I'm ready to go. when I walk outside, I catch that intoxicating smell again. I walk around the building looking to see if I can find where it was coming from but nothing. I must be going crazy, smelling something so intoxicating, but can't find where it's coming from. I decide to go check the SUV to see if he is making out with a she-wolf in it. I hate to be a d*ck but I'm ready to go. The intoxicating smell is getting stronger and my wolf Blaze is going crazy but isn't saying anything. I see the SUV and I can see 2 people in it but can't see if he is making out with anyone or if he is doing something else. When I get closer, I can hear screaming, so I pause and think about turning around and letting him do his thing but all of the sudden, Blaze starts growling. Blaze what's wrong? I ask.

"Mate." He says. Mate? Where Blaze? I ask. "Our mate is in trouble." He replies.

I look around to see if there is anyone needing help but I don't see anyone. Blaze, I don't see anyone besides Mikael screwing a she-wolf in the SUV. Are you sure our mate is here and in trouble? Blaze roars at me and says,

"Are you that f*cking stupid? The scent you keep smelling is our mate." He says. Wait, our mate is here and I keep smelling her? Blaze, where is she? I ask in a panic. "Our mate is really close. I can sense her." He says.

Then it hits me, the SUV. Oh my goddess. I let out a roar and heard gasps from some people who were standing outside by the door and I took off towards the SUV. I could hear her screaming for him to stop and he kept telling her to be quiet. That everything would feel good once he was inside her. I was boiling at this point and I'm surprised I didn't rip the SUV door off the hinge. I grabbed Mikael by the neck and slung him to the ground. He looked up and said,

"Dude, what the f*ck was that for?"

I looked down at him and wanted to rip his throat out and it took everything in me not to rip his throat out. I looked back at the young woman in the SUV and extended my hand. She scooted back against the other door and was scared sh*tless. I assured her I wasn't going to hurt her. I was going to take her back inside to find her parents. She begged me not to tell her parents to help her find her friends, Wyatt and Trinity and I agreed to help her and not tell her parents. She shyly reached for my hand and as soon as our hands touched, the sparks ignited. We paused and stared at each other and Blaze started howling in my head. "Mate. She is our mate!" I turned my head to Mikael who was getting up off the ground and I protectively growled and the word MINE came out. I told him if he didn't apologize to my mate and clean up his f*cking act, he would end up out of my pack. She got out of the SUV and we stood there staring at each other.
