A little while later, Erin and I left. Our journey back to the mansion was smooth, though we were vigilant. Chase could still follow or track us anytime. I looked at the plate number Bendy gave me and remembered it. “Ugh…” I scratched my hair in annoyance.
“Take a chill pill,” Erin snorted.
“I wish I could. I hate him so much,” I replied. As much as I wanted to fly back to New York, I couldn’t. As Jose advised, I should just enjoy the rest of my week before I start working again.
Halfway through our trip, Erin received a call from Mona asking if we could buy pregnancy test kits. Erin seemed surprised, but Mona assured her it wasn’t for her. It was for Greyson’s cousin, Luisa, who had just arrived with William, Greyson's brother.
“I haven’t met some of them, but I heard their names multiple times from the people who live in the mansion,” Erin said as soon as she returned to the car after quickly buying the kits from the mini-shop in the small town. We would arrive at Laurier’s Florida mansion in fifteen more minutes.
“I see,” I nodded.
“Sir Greyson is a triplet. Twenty-four years old. I haven’t seen him in a while, but I have seen his photos. He’s never home and doesn’t even check Abi.”
“Yeah, you mentioned it last night. But I am surprised to know he’s a triplet. So is William a twin? Then who’s the other one?” I curiously asked.
“Ezekiel…Zeke and Liam are identical, while Greyson is the other one. They looked handsome in the photos, you know. Grey looked like a hermit, though,” Erin giggled.
“Erin?! Hermit!?” I laughed.
“Just kidding. I’ve only seen Sir Grey twice. But he’s been down recently, you know. I bet he’s gorgeous and friendly behind those thick beards and arrogant personality!”
“I’ve heard!” I shook my head after hearing Erin’s tea about the Laurier family.
“Those dirty blonde curly tops and blue eyes run in the family.”
I smiled at Erin. “I guess Grey’s ex-wife has brown skin or perhaps is Latina?” I asked, thinking about Abi. She seemed mixed race but didn’t have her dad’s blue eyes and curly hair.
Erin nodded. “Yes, Yassi Mardle. She’s a mixed race too!”
“Oh! That famous model?!” I gasped, “But she’s missing, right?! Like I’ve heard rumors about her disappearance....”
“Yes, but here’s the tea…” Erin said before telling the quick story about Greyson and Yassi.
Soon after, Erin and I finally arrive at the enormous Victorian-style mansion. Erin said it had fifteen rooms, ballrooms, and a massive dining hall. It was almost the size of Owens property in New Jersey, though the latter was much more modern.
Erin quickly introduced me to the helpers living and residing there. Mona was a beautiful version of her father. The old couple, Ruth and Gus, were the family’s housekeeper and driver. Jin was their teenage grandson.
They had a separate quarter house for the housekeepers, but Erin’s extra sleeping room was adjacent to Abigail’s nursery room. I would stay there with her so we could still hang out together.
“Sophie, I’ll just check Abi, and I’ll be back here,” Erin said as she left me standing next to Mona. Jin had already put my baggage in Erin’s room.
“Sure, take your time!” I smiled at Erin before looking at Mona.
“She’ll be safe with me,” Mona said, wiggling her thick brows. “Let’s go, Sophie… My duty is over. I will cook our dinner,” she said, holding my hand as we walked inside the maid’s quarter.
“Sure! I’ll help you!” I agreed. We both got in, and I quickly went in awe. My gaping eyes scoured the four walls. It had a big living room and kitchen. There were five doors, and I knew they belonged to the people who worked there. It didn’t look like a quarter but like a comfortable big house. “Wow! So you guys stay here?!” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes. Very beautiful, isn't it?”
“It's marvelous! I mean, this isn't bad! It looks better than the other houses I have seen!”
“I agree. Now you know I wanted to stay here rather than at our own home,” Mona snorted, “I have to share a room with my younger sisters and two brothers,” she added.
“I see….” I nodded, smiling.
“Erin has a room here! That one with K on the door,” Mona pointed.
“Oh, I thought she had her bedroom in the mansion?”
“Yes, but she’s more comfortable having her own, especially when Lady Esther comes and visits her granddaughter.”
“Oh, sweet…”
“Mister Grey hadn’t been home for a while, so the old lady always comes and stays here.”
“Interesting…Let me help you,” I offered, taking the knife and onion. “So you guys don’t eat with them.”
“No, but Ruth and Gus stay late after dinner whenever they are here. Jin, Erin, and I would eat here, then Erin would stay and sleep with Abi,” Mona replied.
“And you have new people around?” I nosily asked.
“Yes, but Ruth said only Miss Luisa would stay here, and Sir Liam would be here for a week before going to Las Vegas,” Mona nonchalantly answered.
“And Zeke?” I was curious.
Mona looked at me. “He doesn't like going here for some reason,” she shrugged. “But he goes wherever his father is.”
“I see…Here, I am done... what else?” I said, giving the sliced onions to Mona.
“Thanks! This broccoli…” Mona handed me the veggies. “How about you, Sophie? What do you do? Erin mentioned you once to me when I heard about your grandma's passing. She wanted to take care of her, too, but Abi just had heart surgery, and nobody was there for her except Erin. I am really sorry to hear about it,” she stated.
“Thank you…yes… She just died recently, and I became busy after what happened to my best friend,” I answered.
“Yes! Erin heard about it from Jose. What happened?” Mona asked.
I heaved a deep breath before telling Mona the tale. We spent the next hour cooking and chatting about my life these past few months. Even with my trouble with Chase when I mentioned her dad. Mona seemed trustworthy and pleasant. I also shared my thoughts about Sammy when she asked if I was dating someone.
“Ohhh…that’s sweet…” Mona smiled as she prepared the table. You've got yourself a lovely doctor! Lucky you!”
“Kind of…” I giggled before checking my phone to see if Sammy had messaged me. My smile turned upside down as I didn’t see any message, even from Elisha.
“Are you okay, Sophie?”
“Oh, Erin! You’re back!” I composed myself after hearing Erin’s voice. “Ohhhh…Abi!” I gasped as soon as I saw the baby she was holding. The little girl was indeed a beauty, even in her apparent features. She was lucky to have Erin by her side. Abi’s parents seemed not delighted to have her.
“Abigail, this is my cousin, Sophie!” Erin said as she introduced me to the nearly one-year-old girl.
“Phie!” Abi babbled.
“Aww…” I kissed her forehead as I thought about Gideon. “You are amazing, my love....” I added, taking her from Erin.
Abi quickly trusted me and went with me, hugging my neck. “Oh, so sweet, Abi. She’s so lovely, Erin,” I mumbled in happiness.
“She missed me, right?” Erin replied, “Her grandma just left.”
“Oh…Did she cry? How about her aunt and uncle?”
Erin shook her head. “No. She didn’t even go with Liam and Luisa when they tried to carry her.”
“Ohhh, silly girl,” I murmured, rubbing Abi’s back.
Chitchats and talks later, we finally sat down at the dining table. Mona was articulate and chatty. Jin was silent and seemed to be a lovely young man. Like Mona said earlier, Ruth and Gus stayed at the mansion after the family’s dinner.
Abi was seated beside Erin all the time. Their bond seemed natural and lovely. Erin said that Luisa had finally used the pregnancy test, and it was all positive. I hadn’t met her yet, but Erin said Luisa wasn’t happy.
“How are you?” Erin asked as soon as she lay next to me. The whole evening was wonderful after the long day we had. I had just finished taking a long bath after waiting for Erin to put Abi to sleep.
“I am tired but happy!” I smiled before checking my phone once more. I was waiting for Sammy’s call. It was only ten in the evening, and I missed our late-night chats. I knew he rested all day. However, Elisha had mentioned Kyle and Sammy’s almost brawl again.
“I am glad to know,” Erin sighed, checking the baby monitor. “It was such an adventurous and exciting day!”
“Indeed…I hope Chase will stop this madness,” I could only say.
“He will stop soon, or he will be back in prison in no time.”
“Erin…”
“Yes?”
I hesitated to tell her about the photo and Chase's message yesterday, but I felt I needed to get it out of my chest. “Chase, he has a nude photo of me.”
“What?!”
“Yesterday, he left a letter with a photo of me. I think he is going to blackmail me.” I confessed, sitting on the bed, before looking at Erin.
Erin sat next to me. “Did you agree to take some lewd photos of you before?”
I shook my head. “No, but I remember him having explicit videos of his ex-girlfriends. I didn’t think we had one because we only did it once, and it wasn’t consensual s*x. He abused me, remember?”
Erin snorted. “With technology nowadays, I bet he can photoshop and put your face on any naked body from the internet,” she richly stated. I inwardly agreed with her, but it could still damage my reputation. “We needed to do something.”
“Yes, but I don’t know what to do.” I honestly said.
Erin sighed and held my arm. “Let’s sleep on it and forget about him, okay? You need to calm down.”
I smiled at Erin. “I believe you. Thanks, Erin. Goodnight,”
“Goodnight, Sophie…” Erin said before going back to bed.
I lay flat on my back and looked at the ceiling. I need to keep myself busy. I’d be flying to New York for a few more days to see Elisha and Layla. My friends Diane, Ryzen, Ryder, and Mika invited me to hang out soon. I couldn’t wait for Gideon’s birthday. “Oh…Sammy…” I smiled as I thought about seeing Sammy again. He would be in New York by then for his other hospital duties. I didn’t know what kind of feeling I had right now. It could be excitement, or it could be lust. ‘Ding!’
My eyes gaped as I saw Sammy’s name on the screen.
‘I hope you are doing alright. Ich bin für dich da, wenn du mich brauchst…’
‘Yes, you are always there for me... Danke!’
‘Goodnight, my sweet Sophie! See you soon! Xx’
‘You’re the best, doc! See you soon!’
Those simple exchanges of messages somehow calmed my thoughts. “Goodnight, Sammy,” I whispered under my breath and closed my eyes.
