Zachary's City (III)

Change had taken a deep breath right after closing the door behind her, those words weren't her true thoughts but she had to let him know, that just because she was a woman doesn't mean she was desperate for money. She hated sexist men, it was one of the reasons why she was orphaned at a young age, she hated those kind of men to the core, she didn't even need the money, she had a massive inheritance waiting for her back at home. She saw the crowd she had told to leave the bar standing outside, apparently they were waiting for her to call them back in. "Jack!" Jack went to her as fast as he could, she seemed to be pissed....and she was pretty. Jack stared at her face in awe, her body was just making people confused, she was most definitely a grown woman!. "Give me the address of the bar's owners" Change said while putting her gloves back on, 'I need a shower' she thought to herself as she still felt the presence of the corpse though she wasn't in there anymore. Jack nodded and quickly wrote it down on a piece of paper, he handed it to her while looking at his hooves like there was gold stuck on them, he couldn't bring himself to look into her eyes. "Also..." Change took out a note pad from her coat and began sketching the face of the Centaur who pointed a gun to the dead Fae. Change ignored how uncomfortable she was feeling with the stupid coat. She didn't have a choice but to wear it, the police unfortunately, did not provide a lighter uniform for anyone so, the only time this uniform came to an advantage is during winter. "Here, find this man" Jack nodded and collected the sketch studying it. "I know this man" he said, although his voice still sounded like he was asking himself a question. "He...I think, is the owner of the bar, I have seen a few paintings of the owner and this man...looks like him" Change nodded, she thought as much. It seemed the dead Fae had collected too many things without paying and the owner got frustrated. "DONG! DONG! DONG!" Change had only noticed after hearing the bells, how dark it had gotten. The sun had gone down, her carriage and Bodyguard wasn't back yet. It was evening, Jack and the rest said their goodbyes. They were probably not going to meet till the next day. As much as Change wanted to continue the investigation, her exhaustion wouldn't let her focus. Apart from the fact that she spent the past 24hours in a carriage from Genesis to Zachary's City, looking into people's past always took a toll on her strength. Yet, she didn't have a choice but to wait for her carriage. She didn't have to wait long as the carriage stopped in front of her a few minutes later. "Vincent, finally!" Change gave him one of her rare smiles as she got into the carriage. "Sorry for being late Milady, I got a bit carried away exploring the Centaur's Land" Vincent said with a chuckle. "No worries, I didn't wait long" Change quickly took off the coat as she had been itching to do it for quite a while now. She reeked of sweat, she noticed. "Do you perhaps know an inn close by?" "Hmm, shall we?" "Ok" Change replied, trusting that it would be a quality inn. The Fae riding the carriage wasn't just her bodyguard but was also her father's bodyguard and her grandfather's right hand man. Her grandfather had been the head of the council of the Fae's land. Dorian McCall is a great man with many great achievements and despite the fact that he had retired long ago, he was still well respected and remembered along with his right hand man who is also one of the greatest Generals that had ever battled for the Fae's Land, Vincent Valentino People were shocked when they found out that the great General was stepping down to become a mere bodyguard to the first son of the head of council but, the story goes deeper than that. After getting two perfectly large rooms in the most luxurious Inn in Zachary's City, the first thing change did was take a bath. She stripped down from all of her sweaty clothes and threw them away, except for her uniform which she gave to the workers for dry cleaning. She had worked way too hard for that uniform to throw it away, she thought. The room was quite Okay, she thought. After all, it wasn't as big as the one she had back in her grandfather's mansion in The Fae's land. Not longer after she finished with her bath, she heard a knock on the door. "Come in" She said before putting on her clothes fully. It was Vincent with a tray in his hand. "I brought you dinner, Milady" Change sighed and took the tray from him " You didn't have to, I could've called for it my self " Vincent's lips curled upwards as he patted the girl's head lovingly "If I didn't bring this, you would probably forget to ask for it. I know you very well, Change" Change laughed before murmuring a thank and sitting down to eat. "At least you stopped calling me...'Milady' " Change said as she tried to mimic his tone. Vincent smiled as he sat next to her "I wanted to make sure the people eavesdropping knew you were the boss and besides, this is your first case, you have to seem intimidating to the rest" Change nodded, thinking of what he said, another sigh escaped her lips. Her brows furrowed slightly but Vincent noticed it. "What's wrong?, is the case too hard for you?" "No" she shook her head "Its just that, they're under estimating me. Just because I'm a woman. A detective's first case is what is supposed to get them recognition from everyone but instead they gave me this" "And what's so wrong with this case?" Vincent asked. "Do you know who the father of the dead Fae is?" Vincent shook his head "Pascal!" Vincent's brows furrowed "Who...who is Pascal?" "Exactly!!' Change said in an experated manner. " Who is Pascal? " she asked the question to her self before burying her face in her palms. Vincent laughed heartily watching her reaction, he patted her back comfortingly and handed her a glass of water which she gratefully accepted. "Change..." Vincent shook her shoulders slightly "Its your first case and there will be many more after this. You didn't become a detective just to gain fame and let the world know that you can solve cases, did you?" Change shook her head slowly, that was not the reason she became a detective. She did so that one day she might find some lead...any leads to her parent's deaths. "You might not know who that Pascal is but he is a person, isn't he?" Change nodded and seeing that, Vincent continued "He is a person, and his son who was killed is also a person, Pascal will be so hurt to hear about his son's death but what's worse is the fact that the person who killed his son won't be brought to justice. Justice, that's what all of this is for Change" "I know, I'm sorry. I got too carried away" "Its okay, at least you understand my words. Sleep early, you have a big day ahead of you tomorrow" "Thank you, Vincent. Goodnight" Change said as she saw him walk to the door. Vincent turned around to smile at her, his wrinkled eyes crinkled and somehow brightened up the room and her mood. "Goodnight" he replied before leaving. Change put her head on top of her pillow and closed her eyes. She felt her exhaustion washing away after thinking about what Vincent had said. Had she really lost sight of what her goal for becoming a detective was? With these thoughts on her mind, she slept off.
