The air in the bar was stagnant, smelly and uncomfortable, it didn't help that it was still the beginning of summer when the sun was at its hottest. Change looked around one last time just to be sure she was the only person in the bar before touching the corpse. "I apologize for this...this is mainly out of good will"
Remembering everything her grandfather taught her. Deep breaths, slow down your heart beat, focus on you goal, think about the past....
The next time her eyes opened, she was standing in a meadow, two young Faes fighting for a ball. 'The corpse had red hair which means he is the red haired one, the one with the smallest build' she thought to herself. she nodded, she was in the right place....just not the right time. She had succeeded in tapping into the past memories of the dead Fae.
Controlling her breathing just like she was taught, she willed her subconscious and went straight to the Fae's final moments...a few minutes before he died.
"You wouldn't dare hurt me! My father is an official back in Genesis...I will tell him about all of this!" The red haired Fae said aggressively, he was speaking to a male centaur, he was big, really big but the Fae didn't seem to be afraid. Judging by the expensive clothes and the golden rings on the middle aged centaur's finger's, she knew he was probably a politician as well.
The centaur chuckled darkly walking closer to the Fae, the sound of his hooves making a disturbing creak on one of the loose floor boards. "Jeremiah, You are the 8th illegitimate son of Pascal, you think he would care if you died? And besides...you have been owing me too much money lately, since you refuse to work for it you might as well...." With a smirk he brought out a pistol from his expensive looking suit.
"You wouldn't dare kill a Fae in a centaur's bar! You will cause a war and you will be the first one executed by the the law!"
The centaur looked scared for a few seconds before a grim expression appeared on his face "Then I guess no one will have to find out...I can be very silent, I can als--"
"Ms McCall?...Ms McCall!"
Change opened her eyes and turned around to glare at the centaur who had just appeared behind her, she had thought it was Jack but it was someone else. She looked up at the tall centaur, his height creating a huge shadow behind her small figure. With a blank look on her face she stared at his face, his looks weren't average she would give him that, his skin was paler than hers, he looked young but he had grey hair.
"My name is Zachary" he had a smile on his face which was in no way a friendly smile. "I am the mayor of this city, I was lucky to be named after my great great grandfather who founded this city"
Change looked at him with a blank expression "I don't care" she said without before turning back to the corpse "If you are the mayor, then you must know what the consequences are if our investigation proves that this Fae was killed by a Centaur." She hadn't been a able to see how the fae died when she got into his memories but she had a rough guess. The thing bothering her was that the bullets didn't seem to be the reason for his death, they weren't shot with intent to kill and the bullets didn't pierce deep enough.
The Mayor chuckled as he rubbed his chin 'is that a habit around here?' Change thought to herself. "You're an interesting one?....so what are you? Fae? Elf?...dwarf maybe?"
The people the mayor had brought with him laughed loudly...that was only when Change noticed that they were actually there. The mayor looked at the coat she wore, there were some Faes who preferred to hide their wings, her ears weren't pointy, and as much as he'd hate to admit it, she was taller than most dwarves. Fae, she was definitely fae!
"None of your business" Her grey eyes skimmed through the men behind the mayor, giving them all one last chilling look before walking out of the bar, holding the door handle, she turned around and stared at the mayor "I'd rather you do not interfere with my work, Mr Mayor"
The mayor shook his head "I'm not trying to interfere with your work, I just feel that since you were sent here from Genesis city... And a woman, you might want to come with an agreement with me not to let this matter leak...just incase what you find might somehow ruin our reputation, I would really hate for that to happen"
Change smirked beneath her mask, just because women were always doubted and treated like different creatures entirely in this continent, did he think that she, would want anything from him...she probably thinks she's poor and just doing this job to survive. She still feigned ignorance and put on a fake expression of curiosity "And... What's in it for me?"
The mayor clapped his hands excited that she took the bait ''Well, I am guessing since you're a woman...the pay for this job is not as the one they give to the men, why don't you just let me give you something that would last you a lifetime? You're a woman, you will never have such a job that would pay you so much money..."
'Just like I thought...' Change sighed, slowly removing the mask from her face. The mayor was momentarily shocked, he didn't think she was this attractive...he began to cook up another plan in his head, maybe if she became his mistress....
Change observed the men's expressions, her full lips curling into a smile leaving them momentarily dazed. "I'm a woman...you're right, but you're forgetting one thing"
Taking a few steps towards the mayor, she stood in front of his tall figure signaling him with her finger to come closer. She brought her lips closer to his ear after he came down to her height "I am...a very attractive woman, and I..." Her eyes turned cold as she uttered the last sentence "...can get whatever the f**k I want! I don't need your charity!"
Hearing her words sent chills down his spine, the men around him didn't hear what she said but judging by the expression on the mayor's face they knew she definitely didn't agree to the bribe.
Zachary stared at the woman wide eyed as he watched her leave the bar, this was the first time in his life he had ever heard those words from a woman and now that he thought about it, he had never seen a woman as beautiful as she...there is bound to be some men who would do anything she asks of them because of her beauty. The air in the bar was stagnant, smelly and uncomfortable, it didn't help that it was still the beginning of summer when the sun was at its hottest.
