CHAPTER 8 As soon as the first sign of lightening sky appeared in the east over the lake, I got back into my jacket and hat and headed out to meet Loke and Roarr at the crossroads. The first sliver of the sun was edging up over the lake as I left the cabin behind me. It hit the narrow slivers of meadow around me like a crescendo, glinting off of every blade of brown grass that was now encased in ice from the prior day's rain. It was like the whole world around me was crafted from blown glass. The sudden beauty of it almost brought a tear to my eye. Of course, missing an entire night's sleep always made my emotions swing like crazy. And there were a lot of hours still remaining between me and bedtime.
