I'm leaving him for good

1305 Words
Belle's POV Luke was so happy to see me and though I also was, I was afraid the arrangement would only complicate things. He's one of the company's senior managers so, it was easy to get me assigned to his department, where he literally hovered over me throughout the day. After work, he gave me a ride home, and it wasn't like the morning with Jeff. We talked about many things and I enjoyed every bit, though at some point I got tired and was happy when he finally pulled in front of the house. I went straight into the kitchen, I had a small breakfast and lunch too so I was famished. To my surprise, I met Jeff in the kitchen preparing dinner. I didn't even know he'd left work. "How was your first day at work? I hope you enjoyed it?" Jeff asked with a smile. "Yes, I did. I wasn't expecting such a friendly environment. I'm impressed." I answered. "That's nice to know. I love positive feedback about my workplace. I hope you're not just saying what I want to hear?" He pressed further and I laughed. "The fact that you're this bothered about how I feel already shows I'm right." I cleared. "That's good then." He replied and there was silence for the next few minutes. "So, how are you holding up? Are you good? I would have preferred you take a few days to yourself but since you insist you're fine." He explained. "Honestly, I'm still hurting, it's so painful too but staying alone and brooding won't help me heal. I will only get worse. I need a distraction so I won't fall for his words when he comes begging again, which he will surely do." I explained. "That's true. It's good you're finally putting yourself first." Jeff asserted. "Can we talk about something else? I don't want to think about him again." I let out while he agreed and changed the topic. Our chat didn't end in the kitchen, we continued while eating and it felt like I'd known him for years. He related with me like we've been longtime friends, he even gave me a pet name. "Bela? That's nice." I said shyly "Do you like it?" He asked. "I love it, it sounds sweet," I replied while he smiled. Looking at how I opened up so well to him and how he tried to make me happy and forget about my heartbreak, I realized he was my safe zone. I wasn't lying when I told Jeff that his staff are friendly, one that stood out was Anna. She's also an intern but didn't look or behave like one. If she didn't tell me, I wouldn't have known. She looks so experienced and I thought she was a manager or a team leader. Anna and I took off real well and she was quick to open up about her crush on Luke. I also noticed she was close with him but I didn't think there was love in the air. She's been I've with him since she started interning at the company but Luke has never reacted to any of her moves. I could sense from her tone that she was almost giving up and I couldn't let that happen. Anna was the perfect solution to getting Luke's attention from me. I encouraged her to follow through on her plan to ask him out. I wasn't sure she would go through with it but I'm sure, I woke something in her. I may not know her for long but she seems like a good girl and I'm sure Luke would be happy with her. Later after work, a couple of other interns decided to go to the club and have fun. I didn't want to go but they wouldn't take no for an answer, especially since they were going to celebrate us, the new interns. Getting to the party, I was glad I came, it was all shades of fun like they promised. I danced till my legs got tired and couldn't carry me anymore. I decided to check my Instagr*m and I'd only liked a couple of posts when a video of Matt popped up. He was with a girl and kissing her passionately like his life depended on it. We already broke up but all the pain came rushing back when I saw the video. I watched it a few times, and each time, something broke in me. Jeff was right, I needed time to heal. I thought I was strong enough and handle it but I was wrong, I was only masking it. Now the mask was off and the pain was worse and unbearable. I wished I could unsee the video, I wish I hadn't checked my Instagr*m and had just kept dancing till I passed out. I tasted vodka for the first time after watching the video for the umpteenth time. I needed to feel something, and the fastest solution I could think of was booze. One bottle after the other, I kept drinking and before I knew it, I was drunk. It was my first time but I knew it was time to go home. Jessica always says once you get drunk, it's time to leave. I needed someone to take me home but none of the interns cared, they were so busy having fun, dancing, and drinking, to even notice me. Luke has a meeting in town and he went with Anna so I couldn't call either of them. Luke would definitely leave everything behind and come running to me and I didn't want that, especially since I know how Anna was so happy she would finally be spending time alone with him. I thought about calling Jeff but I dropped the thought. I didn't want him to see me this way. I finally resorted to calling a ride which showed was just a few minutes away. I managed to find my way outside to wait for my ride. "Hey se*y!" A strange voice said behind me and before I could even react, I felt his touch on my waist. What? What the he*k? "Excuse me, could you please leave me alone? I'm waiting for my ride." I said though I was struggling with my words. The man probably noticed I was drunk and thought the best thing was to take advantage of me. "I can see you're tired, you can wait inside my car, we'll have a nice time and I'll drop you at home after." He let out while scanning me all over and licking his lips. He then grabbed my bu*t but before he could go further, I landed a slap on his face. I may be drunk, but I won't tolerate such. "How dare you?" He said furiously and that was when I realized I shouldn't have slapped him. There was no one in sight and I was at his mercy. "Please leave me alone, I'm sorry I slapped you. I just don't like it when strangers touch me." I quickly begged. This man didn't care about my pleas, he rushed at me and grabbed my b*tt again and I just struggled to get free from him. I dare not hit him again out of fear. I heard a movement in the dark and when he looked to check too, I quickly started to run away. However, I was so drunk that it felt like I was really running, but then, I was just spinning at a close distance, and it wasn't difficult for him to get me. I closed my eyes in fear as he reached for my dress, but I heard a loud bang instead. I quickly opened my eyes and saw the man lying on the floor, defeated, with another man standing over him...
