He's the same man
Belle's POV
"Cheer up, girl! If you want to enjoy this summer, you need to forget all about that fool..." Jess said without remorse, while I smirked silently.
I didn't like that she called my boyfriend a fool, but honestly, Matt is the perfect mirror example of a fool. Still, I love him so much. He's my fool, or rather, I'm his fool.
"I don't understand why you haven't left him, but I'll keep saying it, that boy doesn't deserve you one bit. He doesn't deserve you, Belle." Jess said with a raised brow as she took a steep turn into another lane.
"But I love him. I can't even imagine being with..."
"Without him?" Jess impatiently took the words from me. She looked angry, and I couldn't even tell if she was mad at me or Matt.
"You've only been with a guy all your life, and you think that's all it is to love. He knows you will never leave, no matter the trash he dumps on you, and that's why he keeps doing that. I wonder how many times you'd keep forgiving him just because you're scared of losing him." Jess said emphatically.
Each of her words hit me deep and the reality of her outburst scared me even more. She was right, Matt treats me like trash, but it's like the more he does, the harder it gets to leave. I love him. He keeps cheating on me with different girls and I catch him each time. It's not as if I even trail him, he just doesn't value me enough to hide his promiscuous ways, and I keep finding out about the lies and hookers.
Each time, I make up my mind to leave, but once he comes over, and I set my eyes on him, all my anger dissolves, and I'm back with him. He would then confess his undying love and reassure me of his commitment. Such an irony. Just a week after his last confession, I walked in on him with a hooker in his bedroom. I just couldn't take it anymore, so I ran off immediately. I knew I was going to cave once he came over to my place, so I didn't go home. I went straight to Jess who then invited me to spend this summer with her at her family's penthouse in the countryside.
"What about your crush you told me about? You should reach out to him and get down with him. By the time he's done with you, all this Matt fever will have disappeared." Jess suddenly said, jerking me back from my deep thoughts.
"I can't." I let out slowly.
"Why not?" Jess quizzed.
"Well, he's my father's age and then, I only saw him once, four years ago on my 16th birthday. I don't even know his name or anything about him." I explained, while Jess playfully smacked my shoulder.
"Oh my God, Belle, you're so unbelievable. You talk like you see him all the time and know everything about him. Girl, we're going to work on that. Even if we have to ask your dad, we'll find your crush and cure you of this fever." Jess said while I forced out a smile.
"Yes, finally I got you to smile. That's a good start," she added, while I smiled again.
"Thanks, Jess. I don't know how I'd survive without you." I chimed in slowly.
"Oh stop, I'll only accept your thanks when you leave that fool," Jess replied emphatically while I smiled and looked out the window. Cold air blasted my face while I relished the sweet scenery. Jess was gyrating to the rhythm of the song at full blast while I slowly drifted back into my thoughts.
She doesn't know it, but the song resonated with every bit of what I was going through, and within seconds, tears rolled down my cheeks as the scene from last week replayed in my head.
I had just checked our test results and we both did well. I was happier for him because he had issues with the course and I had to spend extra time tutoring him.
My happiness immediately turned sour when I opened the door and found my boyfriend giving it hard to a random girl he probably picked up from the club...
"We're here!" Jess screamed as she pulled in front of her father's penthouse.
She didn't even wait for me, she hurriedly pushed open the car door and ran towards the entrance. Her dad was standing there waiting, and the two hugged passionately, I stood at a distance, completely dazed. What could this be? A coincidence or fate?
I never imagined that Jess' dad was the same man I've always had a crush on. The same man who turned up on my 16th birthday, and captured my heart. I was very young and completely inexperienced about love, but I recognized it the moment it was standing in front of me. I wasn't sure if it was love, but something in me awakened. An urge, a craving… call it whatever, but I yearn for every bit of this man.
However, he never looked in my direction or maybe just a few times when everyone else was also looking. As for me, my gaze never left his side. His high-end suit did justice to his handsome face, nicely trimmed hair, and chiseled chest which bulged against his jacket…
"Belle, come over!" Jess shouted excitedly. Seeing her hold him in such a close and passionate manner, made me so uneasy. I envied her, I wish it was me standing next to him, with his arms around my shoulder.
"Belle!!!" Jess called again while I quickly went over.
"Dad, meet my best friend, her name is Belle, and Daddy, she's all I've ever wished for!" Jess said with much enthusiasm while I sheepishly blushed.
"Wow, it's so nice to finally meet you Belle, I've heard so much about you, she just never stops talking about you. Thank you for being a good friend to my muse. By the way, I'm Jeffrey." I didn't hear a word he said. His handsome face was so distracting, especially his lips. They were so soft and pink.
"Belle!" Jess called out when I wouldn't say a word and was just staring.
"Ohh, I'm so sorry. Pardon my manners, it's so nice to meet you, Sir." I said politely while father and daughter shared a glance and burst into laughter.
"C'mon, you don't have to be so uptight. My dad is quite young, so feel free." Jess exclaimed and then pulled me into a hug with Jeff. A cold shiver ran through my body when his body touched mine and I quickly pulled back.
"What happened? Are you okay?" Jeff asked.
"No Sir, I'm fine. It's just…"
"Don't mind her Daddy, she's always like that when she's meeting someone for the first time. I'm sure she will feel relaxed soon."
"I hope so, go in now, I asked the chef to prepare something for you. I need to meet with some friends, I'll see you when I get back." Jeff replied.
"If we haven't gone out too…" Jess said and then dragged me with her inside. Just before I entered, I looked back and locked eyes with Jeff. I didn't expect him to be looking too and he even smiled. I felt so shy and quickly looked away.
"Jess, you never mentioned you're this rich," I said as I stepped in and saw the luxury everywhere. I've always known she's rich but not on this level. I mean, she sometimes exudes that spoilt rich kid trait but now I understand. Her dad is a multi-billionaire so why wouldn't he spoil his only daughter silly?
"You never asked, and I don't like it when people treat me differently because of my status, so I stopped telling. You're rich too though." Jess replied nonchalantly while I feasted my eyes on the splendor all around me.
It's been a long drive home so we decided to eat first. The table was filled with all sorts of food, and it made me wonder if we were expecting more people.
We ate in a silent hurry before moving into Jessica's room, which was so big that twenty people could live there conveniently. Her closet was like a clothing store, she even had a dressing table the size of a beauty salon.
As I tiredly bounced on the bed, I realized how different our worlds were. My parents are rich too and we live comfortably but being here made me realize there's so much more to things…
