Chapter Four... Eyes On Her

1246 Words
*Emma POV* After Jackson had left the other night, I crashed on my bed and fell into a deep sleep. He told me stories about his family and a brother who he had lost. He told me that he and his father had ended up buying a bar several years later just so they could stay afloat. I felt like there was more to the story, but I never asked. Jackson seemed a little off and just talking about the memories seemed to cause him pain. I tried changing the subject and when I finally succeeded Jackson ended up finding out the mess my life was. He had cursed under his breath when he found out that I had no food and even more when he saw all my bills piling up on the table. I pleaded with him to just leave it be, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. He helped me to bed and then before he left, he told me that he was coming in the morning and taking me grocery shopping and helping me with whatever I needed. I groaned when I heard my phone ringing beside my bed. I rubbed my eyes, then grabbed my phone. Who in the f**k is calling me at..... three a.m. in the morning. Ugh! I swipe my screen and grumble annoyingly. "Do you have any idea what-" I mumbled with annoyance before I was cut off. "Hello Emma." All the hair on my neck raised as I felt a chill all the way to my bones. "S-Sean? H-how did y-you get this n-number?" I stuttered out. The laugh that left his mouth made my insides churn with fear. "Did you really think you could leave ME? That I couldn't find you? You make it too easy sweetheart." he said smugly, "Now who the f**k was that man you were with earlier." If I was looking in a mirror I would be able to notice all the color drained from my face. "W-what do you mean?" I whispered painfully. He clicked his tongue with annoyance. "Do you take me for a fool Emma? I know where you are staying. I saw you with a man last night. Now answer the f*****g question before I get really angry." he snarled. My whole body tensed and suddenly I felt a panic attack approaching. He knew where I was? I needed to leave before he came for me. "Time is running out Emma and so is my f*****g patience. Do you even know who my father and grandfather are? I am a very dangerous person, so I suggest that you don't piss me off anymore than you have already." A slight whimper escaped my lips and I found myself cowering. No... I couldn't let him have control over me anymore. "It's none of your f*****g business Sean. I left you for a reason. Now leave me the f**k alone." I hissed angrily and then hung up the phone. Seconds later the phone rang again. I just ignored it and hurriedly got dressed. I grabbed my purse and looked out the window frantically. It seemed eerily quiet and I wasn't sure if he was close by. I was just about to walk towards the door and leave when all of a sudden there was a powerful pounding on the door. "Open the f*****g door Emma." Sean yelled angrily. I began shaking badly. No.... this can't be happening right now. "Emma, I am giving you till the count of five to open this damned door, otherwise I am going to break this f*****g door down." I looked towards the window and knew it was my only option. "One." I gulped inwardly and rushed to the window and opened it. "Two." I crawled out and dropped down to the ground. It wasn't that far. "Three." I heard the anger and frustration in his voice. I started running towards the bar. It was so far away, but I had to find a place to hide. "EMMA! YOU LITTLE B*TCH! RUN WHILE YOU CAN SWEETHEART, BECAUSE I'M COMING FOR YOU." He yelled out the window. I didn't stop I just kept running. I dialed Jackson and hoped to God he answered. "Hello?" Jackson said with a groggy voice. "Oh thank God you answered Jackson. Please help me. My ex found me and he is after me. He will hurt me if he catches me. Please hurry." I sobbed uncontrollably. "Whoa. Calm down Buttercup. Where are you right now?" he said cautiously. "I'm not really sure. I am running away from my apartment, because he tried to break in while I was there. I escaped through the window and now I am running in the direction of the bar." I said huffing as I gasped for air. "Oh God. I hear tires coming this way. What do I do? I am so scared Jackson." I heard the slamming of a door and then keys jiggling, then his truck vroomed to life. "I'm headed to you Emma, but you have to find a place to hide until I get to you." Jackson said growling. I was frantically looking every which way trying to find where I could hide. "EMMA? OH EMMA? COME OUT! COME OUT! WHEREVER YOU ARE." Sean yelled. I could hear the excitement in his voice, the excitement knowing that once he got a hold of me that I would be at his mercy once again. "Emma, did you find a place yet?" Jackson says with a dangerous tone. I knew he wasn't going to hurt me, but damn that deep voice gave me bad chills too. "I see a small convenience store. Should I go in?" I asked innocently. "Yes. That should be Jani's Corner. Tell Jani that I sent you and I will be right there. Hurry Emma." Jackson said with a fierceness. I ran as fast as I could until I made it to the store. I ran in and tried to hide myself by the counter. "Can I help you ma'am?" said the woman behind the counter. "Yes. Jackson sent me here and said you could help me till he got here. Please I really need to hide. My ex is after me. Are you Jani?" I begged as my voice cracked. Within seconds of me talking she grabbed me and hauled me rapidly towards the back of the store. She looked over her shoulder quickly and made sure no one other than us were watching. She moved a shelf from the wall and there was a small hatch door. "Hurry honey get in. I think your ex is close. I will protect you until Jackson gets here. Don't make a sound okay." she said hurriedly. I nodded my head rapidly and got inside. She dropped the hatch and I heard her move the shelf back. I sat there for what seemed like forever waiting, until I heard the shelf scraping and familiar voices on the other side of the hatch. The hatch opened and there stood Jackson. I climbed out and hugged him as I sobbed. "Shh.... there... there Buttercup. I am here. Your big brother is here." he said calmly as he ran his hand up and down my back. Finally I was safe again, but for how long? I couldn't put anyone else in danger. I don't know what I would do if I lost my new found family. What am I going to do??
