Chapter Three... The Loss Of His Family

1409 Words
*Tommy POV* I headed to my room and once I went in I started packing. I figured I wouldn't need very much. If I needed something else I would just buy it. Just a few changes of clothes and maybe a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. I packed everything in my duffel bag then headed to the bathroom, grabbed a few necessities that I would need. When I finished packing, I sat on my bed and looked on my phone for a hotel that was close by where I was going to be. When I found a suitable one, I called and made reservation for three days. Once that was done I grabbed my keys to my SUV and went to leave. "Uncle Tommy? Where are you going?" Anders said cautiously. I stopped and looked behind me. I placed my duffel bag down and sighed dejectedly. "I need to get away for awhile Anders. I have a few personal things to sort out and then I will be back." I said confidently. He had this look like he knew something I didn't. "I don't think you should go alone. None of us should ever go alone. Do you not remember who my parents are? It's not safe for you, so I am coming with you." He said sternly. I chuckled softly, "No Anders, this is something I have to do alone. It's the anniversary of my family's...... death. I have lived with the burden all my life, it is finally time to let go and move on with my life. I promise I will come back soon. There is no need for you to come." I say trying to suppress the feeling of darkness that is fighting it's way to the surface. "Uncle Tommy-" Anders starts to say, but I quickly cut him off. "No Anders. I have to do this alone. No matter what. Please understand." I say sternly as I place my hand on his shoulder. Anders drops his shoulders with defeat. "Okay, but please be careful. Please call me if you need anything. No matter what time it is. You have always been there for me and my parents when we needed it the most. I just want to be able to return the favor. I love you dummy." Anders sniffles slightly and then punches my arm at the end, "I think I have something in my eye." Anders says trying to hide the fact that he is crying. I chuckle softly and just shake my head. "Yes, of course. You should probably take care of that then. Don't worry, I promise I will." he looks at me with uncertainty and then suddenly hugs me tightly and whispers, "Please come back safely." He lets go, then quickly turns and walks in the opposite direction. I stand there in shock for a few minutes trying to understand why everyone is so emotional right now. I am only going to be gone for a couple days. They make it seem like I am never coming back. Do they know something that I don't? I shake those negative thoughts out of my head, then reach down to grab my duffel bag. Once I have it, I head out to my SUV and leave the mansion. I head out of town and embark on a mission that has been a long time coming. Once I get to the hotel, I check in and go to my room. I am mentally exhausted, so I decide to lay down and rest for a couple hours. When I get up I might go to a local bar or something. I need to mentally prepare myself for tomorrow. I am not sure what to expect when I get to my old neighborhood. Will my childhood home still be there and if it is, will people be living there? Maybe it was destroyed after the horrible murders that were committed there. I gulp loudly and feel my body start to shake. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. *Flashback* I had just got home from staying at my friend's house, but my mother had just finished dinner and wanted us all to sit down to eat together. I wasn't really hungry, but my mother would not take no for an answer, so I sat down at the table. We had just finished a small prayer when several men in black suits barged into our house. My parents looked at eachother in a panic. "My My My...... what do we have here? Did I interrupt your family dinner?" said one of the men, except this man looked very dangerous. He oozed of power and control. "Mom? Dad? What's going on?" I said. My parents looked at eachother and exchanged a glance, then back at me. I was twelve at the time and my brother was nine. The man just watched us with a cruel smile. My father opened his mouth to speak, but the man put his hand up to stop him. "Your folks didn't tell you? I guess I am not surprised in the least. You see they borrowed money from me and haven't paid me back. Today was the deadline." he said with a dangerous tone. I looked at the man with a confused expression. Why would my parents borrow any money. We had money, we weren't necessarily poor, but we were comfortable. "What is he talking about father?" I said sternly. "I lost my job several months ago Tommy. I didn't want to lose the house. I didn't want your mother, you, or your brother to be without, so I asked this man to help me. He gave me a deadline to pay him back." my father whispered, "Please Jensen, I found a job, just give me chance, I promise to pay you back everything, just leave my family out of this." my father pleaded. Jensen sneered with disgust at my father and just chuckled darkly. "I'm afraid that is not good enough. I want my money NOW!" he snarled. I watched in horror as he pulled out a gun and shot my mother right between the eyes. She slumped over and fell to the ground. I lunged at the man and tried to attack him. I was out of control. My father was screaming for mercy as he fell to the ground holding my mother's limp body. The men grabbed me and held me tightly. I struggled to get out of their hold, but it was hopeless. "Hmmm.... I love the spunk of this boy right here Branson. I think I will take him with me." Jensen laughs evilly. "No.. please not my son. Leave him Jensen! This is between men. He is just a boy!" my father growled angrily. My brother was cowering in fear and had tears running down his face. "Please... I will go with you, but leave my brother and father alone." I said through gritted teeth. "Tommy! Don't say that son, I will not let you suffer for the mistakes I made." my father said as his voice cracked painfully. "BOO-F*****G-HOO! I AM DONE WITH THIS." Jenson growled angrily. He nodded toward his men and I watched with horror as his men attacked my father and brother. I could hear their screams of agony as they were tortured as his men holding me dragged me out kicking and screaming. I heard several gunshots and then the screams were no more. "If I see you come in this town ever again, I swear that I will kill you just as I have done to your family. The only reason I am letting you live boy is because I see myself in you. Go do something with your life. Do better than your dumb motherf*****g father. You will not get a second chance, so do it right the first time. Now. GO!" Jensen said sternly. I was so lost and the pain I was feeling from losing my family was unbearable. I was numb and empty, but I knew that I didn't want to die, because the only thing in my mind was one thing. Revenge. I would kill that man who murdered my family and I would make him pay for what he did to my life. So I ran and never looked back. I lived on the streets for awhile and then later, that's when Conrad found me and took me in. *Flashback Ends*
