Chapter Five... Finding Out The Truth

1317 Words
*Tommy POV* Having that flashback really hit me hard, because I ended up crashing till the late morning. I groan inwardly then get up and head for the bathroom. I take a quick shower, then get ready for today. Mentally I am not ready for this. I get dressed in one of my suits and then decide to go to the local diner and have breakfast. I have to keep my mind occupied and not let my thoughts wonder. I leave my room and close the door behind me locking it. I head straight for the elevators and push the button to descend to the bottom floor. I leave the hotel and get in my SUV. I drive around looking for the local diner. Everything has changed so much since I was last here. I get a strange feeling that this little town isn't as innocent as it used to be. I feel a dangerous aura here. My hackles rise somewhat. I don't recall Landon ever mentioning this town or having any problems with anyone here, so why do I feel like someone else is controlling this town. I find the diner and pull over to park. I get out and go inside. Everyone seems to tense as their eyes land on me. Interesting. Disturbing, but interesting. I find an empty table and take a seat. The waitress seems hesitant, but eventually comes over. "Good Morning Sir. Is there anything I can get you? Coffee? Tea?" she says politely as she hands me a menu. "Coffee would be great. Black please." I say calmly then scan over the menu briefly, "Bacon, sausage, eggs sunny side up, and some toast please." I smile and hand her the menu. She grabs it and leaves. I notice her give my order and then head towards another table. She casually looks over her shoulder and then back to the person at the table. I notice a man get up from the table and walk over to where I am sitting. He seems nervous and slightly worried. There is small beads of sweat forming on his forehead. I gesture for him to have a seat, so he sits down slowly. "I am not in trouble am I?" he says with strain in his voice. "I'm not really sure who you think I am, but I only came for breakfast." I say trying to suppress the annoyance in my voice. Someone has really f****d up my town and apparently has everyone by the balls. He gives me a look as if he doesn't believe me. "I swear I will have the money soon, please don't hurt my family." he rushes out. My eyes widen with alarm. What. The. f**k. "Listen very carefully. Who is threatening you and your family, because whoever it is needs to learn a lesson in honor? Family is important and should never be used in that manner. Like I mentioned before, I am not that person. I would never hurt anyone's family. I may work for a powerful man, but he would never hurt your family or anyone else's. So please tell me who the f**k this person is, because he will have to deal with me and my boss." I say sternly. The man's eyes are widened with shock and I notice that he isn't as tense as he once was. "Y-you would h-help us? Why? What's in it for you?" the man says cautiously. "To be honest, I am trying to make things right here. I was born from this town and lost my family. They were murdered right in front of my eyes. The man who did this got away, because I was only twelve. Today is the anniversary of their death and I want to make things right so that I can move on. My father was a good man and he always took care of anyone in trouble. So now that responsibility falls on my shoulders." I say with a determination. The man narrows his eyes slightly with confusion. "I have lived here all my life. I don't recall any families being murdered. There was an incident that happened thirty-two years ago, but the family lost a son, poor guy lost his wife that day too. His son and him were left for dead, but they didn't die. My father told me about that day, because it was very hush hush. The man responsible is a very dangerous man and he doesn't make mistakes, but my father told me that Jensen, that's his name, he wanted to teach the family a lesson. The only reason my father knows any of this is because the man and son survived, barely, but they didn't die. He was friends with my father. Everyone knew that family was in trouble, but no one knew what was going to happen that day. This whole town has tried helping the man and son through the years. Jensen, his son, and his son's son, rule over this town. We all try to help one another out so that nothing like that happens again." the guy says. I am frozen with shock. This is my story he is describing, but how could they have survived. No this is impossible. I heard the screams and the gunshots, but the mention of the name I have ingrained in my head makes my blood boil. "Was the families last name Branson, by c-chance?" I say as my voice cracks. The man looks at me in alarm, but nods his head. "How do you know that?" he says curiously. I gulp loudly and then answer his question. "Because..... I was there that day. Hank is my father and Jackson is my brother, they are my family. I was the son they lost, but I didn't die. That motherf*****g bastard Jensen killed my mother right in front of my eyes, then forcefully took me from my family and brought me outside. I heard gunshots and screams coming from the house and then silence. I assumed my father and brother were killed. Jensen told me to run, because if I didn't he was going to kill me too. I was just a boy, so I did the only thing I could do at the time. I ran, but I made a vow that I would have revenge one day." I said through gritted teeth. "Tommy? Is it really you?" the guy says emotionally. I look at him and tilt my head to the side. "Yes? My name is Tommy Branson. Who are you exactly?" I say trying to suppress my rage at the newfound information that I received just now. "It's me Gunther. Damn, the last time I saw you was that night. I thought you were dead. We all did." he says softly. "Gunther? Is it really you? Damn man.. It has been too long. Soooo... my father and brother are still alive?" I croaked out. "Yeah man. They are still around. They actually own the local bar here. You should go see them. They need to know the truth. Today is hard on them too. They don't live in the same house though. They tore the house down and moved just out of city limits. I can bring you if you want?" Gunther says smiling. "Yes. I.... umm.. Can we go now actually?" I said feeling the need to see my family. "Sure I will have Kacey box up your food and save it for you." Gunther chuckles. "Give it to someone who hasn't eaten. I won't be able to eat at the moment. Let's go!" I say throwing down a hundred dollar bill. Gunther just looks at the money and shakes his head as we head out. I am going to see my family again, the family I thought was brutally killed and I just don't know how to prepare myself for something so monumental.
