Chapter 6

Kaya heads back to the office and walks into her office followed by Tyler. She makes them come coffee and then sits down on the couch opposite her brother. She puts the cup down and throws her head back then lets out a loud sigh. Tyler who is now drinking his coffee responds, “he is still going to be there after this you know.” Kaya doesn’t bother looking up, “he was put in the hospital just for kissing me and now I agreed to date him what if something worse happens to this man. I don’t want to relive a Lucas situation all over again.” Tyler stops mid drink and puts the coffee on the table, “that i***t didn’t know what he had, and this guy is different from Lucas. I can tell in the way that he acted when I caught you two kissing. He was embarrassed. Lucas didn’t care. There were more red flags then there were good things about Lucas. And the fact that this guy still wants to try dating and agreed to your plan of having him in your building tells me that he is a million times better than Lucas ever was and that isn’t me speaking ill of the dead it’s just the facts and you know that Albie is going to have the same thoughts if he can see what I see. You are finally smiling again, and I heard you laughing you never did that with Lucas not a real laugh or real smile anyway so do me a favor and just try without holding back.” Kaya lets out a sigh and Tyler lays it on once more, “please for me just try it squirt can you promise me you will try it?” Kaya lets out a sigh again and then nods, “fine I’ll try it but if in 6 months it doesn’t work promise you won’t give me any s**t for this?” She lifts her coffee and takes a drink while Tyler lifts his, “Deal. Now what are you saying at this press conference.”

Kaya takes a sip and pulls out her phone, “I have an idea of what I’m going to say I just have to send the copy off to Nancy. It’s been a long day and its only 12:30. Well let’s get this party moving the reporters are going to start filing up the conference room.” They finish their coffee and get up and walk out of her office. They walk up to Katie’s desk in the middle of both their offices then Kaya asks, “Katie did you get that list that I asked for?” She nods and hands her the list. Kaya thanks her and they walk to the elevator and head down to the main conference room on the first floor. They walk out to a crowd of reporters, writers, and columnists. The media is having a frenzy with this and that is exactly how Kaya wants it to be. She sits down at the table as a reporter who is young and eager tries to ask a question but is stopped by a more experienced reporter. Kaya smirks as she catches this and sits down now. She faces the crowd with the crown she has earned as the Cold CEO Death leader of the four horsemen. She smiles her charming smile and gets the attention of the crowd as they quiet down. Katie speaks up, “Thank you all for coming as you have seen for yourself Ms. Grayson has some news that she would like to share with you and would like for all of you to hold your questions until you are called on this conference will now begin. Thank you again for coming today.” Katie sits down and Kaya moves forward in her relaxed demeanor. She clears her throat, “Hello everyone I hope you are all having a fabulous day. Well now to the reason that we are all here today. As all of you have seen I have become breaking news for a kiss that I didn’t even have on screen which I thought would come first.” The crowd lets out a chuckle and she goes on, “I know you are all anxiously waiting for me to speak on it so here it is. Gavin Ashford and I are officially dating. We have been but wanted to keep things private for much longer than we did. Being people that are always in the limelight we wanted to keep something out of that light and just enjoy ourselves like a normal couple. Although in hindsight that wasn’t the best idea since my dearest is now lying in the hospital over a car accident that was caused by people who were trying to break the story instead of doing things like all you respectful people here. If they had waited they could have gotten the exclusive scoop, but they had to jump the gun.” She leans forward and can see that the media is eating this all up for the most part so she goes on after she takes a drink of her water, “well now that you all know we are dating I would like to invite you all to ask questions and please be respectful of each other you are all so great I would love to get as many questions out of the way as possible.”

The hands shot up and Kaya calls on someone, “Carry if you please.” The woman stands up and smiles then says, “I understand wanting to keep it private but why set up this press conference when the pictures came then? I have known you a long time and you usually don’t bother with things like this. Does that mean that he is special?” Kaya smirks good thing she called on her first she thinks and then answers, “I would say so he is different from the people that I interact with daily which is why I guess I wanted the world to know he is taken. Sorry ladies.” The crowd lets out another chuckle then Kaya points to another man, “Bill thanks for coming please.” Bill stands up and asks, “thank you for reaching out, now I along with my readers want to know how this will affect the financial tycoon we have come to know as the Grayson empire? Will this put a slower speed on anything the company is trying to do like the contract that is currently on the floor for the company and is the accident connected to the death threats that your family has been getting?” Kaya smiles politely just what she was expecting, “Thank you bill. Well, I would like to ask you something first did you know that sharks are born know two things. Do you know what they are?” Bill shakes his head, “they are born knowing how to swim and how to tap into their killer instinct so that they can survive the cruel harsh world. Now knowing this let me say this you are looking at the shark. Grayson industries will not be bullied into changing what they want for the future of not only the company but all the people who depend on us to provide a living for their lives however that may look. I know that there has been some push back, but we will never stop trying to make a difference in the world or trying to leave it better then how we found it and that is exactly what this new contract does. That was a great question Bill. Next question?”

Kaya leans back and calls on another person, “yes sally please go ahead.” Sally stands up, “Gavin Ashford is known as one of four of the world’s greatest heart throbs. ALP fans don’t usually like when the boys have a significant other look at what happened with his last girlfriend. What is going to make the two of you different? Will the fans like you?” Kaya leans back in her chair with the never changing smile, “I do know about ALP and how amazing their fans are. They have fans that will stand in a blizzard to see them, and I also know how important their fans are to them. I would never ask him to change or give up his dream for me because that is what I love about him. His passion and his drive to make music that he puts his heart and soul into so that their fans will know that he was thinking of them when he wrote it. I will support him in his career, and I look forward to meeting his fans and connecting on a different level that is so much more meaningful for both of us. As for his ex-girlfriend I cannot speak on that past relationship all we can do now is wish her nothing but the best.” The crowd starts showing the signs that she wants since she is playing them like a chess game when she hears someone yell from the door. Kaya looks up and sees none other than Tracey drunk and belligerent while she stumbles through the door. Kaya holds back the urge to roll her eyes but then thinks this should be fun. Tracey is stopped by the guards and at Kaya’s signal instead they let her pass she gets to the table and slams a bottle on it that is almost empty as well as being the cheap stuff. Tracey takes a breath, “you are such a liar! You two haven’t been dating I would know! You are a homewrecking tramp!” Kaya slowly stands and stops Tyler from standing up next to her with her hand on his shoulder, “Now Ms. Andrews I would like to say welcome to our company first off and secondly I think that I like everyone else here would like to know how you would know that exactly?” Tracey takes another drink as Katie is already calling the police and telling them to bring an ambulance as well, “I am always with Gavin! I meet him in the mornings when he leaves and then come back to drop him off when he gets home. I know everything he does.” Kaya raises her eyebrows and thinks to herself this couldn’t be any more perfect if I planned this myself. She reaches a hand to Katie and takes her phone then scrolls through it until she is able to find the file she is looking for, “Well actually it says here that you have been stalking Gavin for the last year since you two broke up. He stated that he broke up with you because of substance abuse. He also stated that you would not give up, so he wanted a restraining order filed that kept you away from him and his family and his band as well as anyone he was seeing indefinitely.  Since you threatened them and were in some cases physical with his dates or potential partners. Now by my accounting you seem to be violating that order right now.” Tracey scoffs, “Gavin is going to get rid of that order when he is done having his fun with you.

Kaya keeps her polite smile on, “Well I don’t see that happening since he says he wants me to be his last relationship. The man is one of the worlds heart throbs for a reason I mean he is just so romantic.” Tracey screams and throws herself Kaya who dodges into her brothers arms as the guards pull Tracey off the table and out of the building. Kaya and her brother straighten themselves and the table up and take their seats again. She clears her throat, “I’m sorry for the interruption can we continue everyone. If I am correct we have time for 3 more questions.” The hands shot up and Tyler calls on a woman down in front who is young and blushes at his gaze, “thank you very much Mr. Grayson. Now with what we just saw and heard Ms. Grayson do you really think that you will have no more problems being with someone like Gavin Ashford? I mean there will always be another woman saying that she wants him because as you stated he is a heart throb.” Kaya smiles again at the young lady, “I’m sorry what was your name?” The young woman blushes now at Kaya’s gaze, “Amy Seal.” Kaya nods gently, “Amy thank you for coming and that is a great question. I have confidence in him and it’s just that simple. I trust him. Now let me say this I have learned that you cannot control people my example Ms. Andrews so all you can do is trust that they really do care about you and never want to hurt you. Beyond that it’s out of your control. I trust my amazing man and that is all I can say about that it is up to him to stop that from happening which is no problem for him as he has shown me firsthand.” The young woman sits down with a gooey eyed look on her face and another man raises his hand. Kaya picks him, “Hello hank! Thank you for coming. Your question?” Hank stands, “Hello Ms. Grayson. Thank you for the invitation. I would like to say this all seems like a press stunt and like this isn’t real or even probable. Can you tell us how you two met and if you two really do plan to take things to that level of commitment since let’s be honest being with one of the Grayson siblings is an imposing task and a bit of a circus at times. Today as well as the accident being the example. I invite you both to answer if you would answer first Ms. Grayson.” Kaya mentally rolls her eyes and remembers this was why she invited him because he is a hard ass, but he is fair. She smiles, “Of course Hank thank you. We are planning to take it day by day even though some wishes have been voiced on both sides. We are truly only looking at thing as they come. I will not say that you are wrong it can be a bit of a circus with our family as you have all witnessed now and in the past, but I don’t think that finding happiness again is wrong and I intend to hold on to that happiness for as long as I possibly can. Tyler?” Tyler clears his throat, “Thank you Kaya and Hank it is always good to see you.” Hank nods and Tyler continues, “I think that being with one of the Grayson siblings comes with highs and lows just any other relationship. The only difference is that all of you get to come on that ride with us. That is one wild roller coaster as you all know.” The crowd chuckles, “But in all seriousness at the end of the day we are all human and we also want what everyone else wants to give love and be loved in return by the people who are most important in our lives. We are maybe a hard bunch to deal with but as my beautiful wife says being with a Grayson can be a challenge, but it is all worth the chaos that you might encounter. They love hard and stronger than anyone I have ever known. I have to say that I agree with her. Seeing as how my sister and I are adopted we know that love isn’t something you should take for granted because it can always be taken from you. Instead cherish all the moments that you have with each other and keep the people who are important close and always let them know that you are always there for them. Anything to add Kaya?” Some in the crowd are sniffling and some are drying their eyes as Kaya looks out with a smile, “I agree with all that my brother and sister-in-law said. We were taught that people are not obligated to love us because of who we are to them or to the world. People will care about and love us for who we are and who we choose to become. I can say that every member of the Grayson family puts all they can into the relationships that they surround themselves with and make the time to have those unforgettable moments with each other just like everyone else. I am never too busy to spend time with the people that I care about and if I don’t have time then I make the time. My father has always told my brother and I that our superpower is pulling time out of thin air. One final question please since we have a meeting that we must get to.”

The entire crowd is now gushing over the Grayson siblings as Hank sits down when Tyler picks the last person, “Jack please and this will be the last question so no pressure.” The crowd lets out an adoring little laugh as Jack stands up smiling, “Thank you Mr. Grayson. Now, Ms. Grayson there are reports that the company is so successful now with a 300% gain in the profit margin and being on track to hit a 500% gain next quarter, that you and your brother often stay and sleep in the office and work nonstop so how will you make time for your new relationship without it affecting the company and your work out put?” Kaya takes a drink of water thinking bingo the conversation went as we wanted it to go. She puts her drink down, “I’m so glad you asked that Jack thank you. That is a simple fix. Gavin Ashford and his band and family have agreed to move into the same building with me so that we can all continue to get to know each other, and Gavin and I can both make time since we are both very busy people. This also gives us a chance to get to know each other’s work and really move towards building a future together. We decided this recently and have moved to a point in our lives that gives us the chance to do so. We know this is an unorthodox step but for us it works so we are very happy with this decision, and we hope that you all can support us and continue to support us in the future like you are right now. Thank you for coming but we must be going now. Thank you.” Kaya and Tyler get up and wave to the crowd who is still trying to ask questions. The pair walks to the elevator and gets in as soon as it closes Tyler lets out a sigh, “well what do you think?” Kaya smirks and leans back against the wall, “Checkmate.” The two go back to their floor and head to their offices. Once in there, Kaya sees that she has a text on her personal phone from Gavin that says call me. She sits down and calls him. 

He answers the phone quickly and frantically, “Are you all right? Did she hurt you?” Kaya laughs softly, “Baby please she would have to do a lot more than that to hurt me. How are you feeling?” Gavin lets out a breath, “Good to know. I feel better I woke up and watched the press conference surprise, surprise it was on the news as breaking news. Is anything ever low key with you?” Kaya shrugs even though he can’t see her, so she facetimes him instead which he answers. She shrugs again, “you are dating a Grayson sibling. Nothing is low key with us unless we want it to be.” Gavin shakes his head, “You are going to be the death of me woman. So did you mean everything you said?” Kaya rolls her eyes and smirks, “I knew you were going to get mushy but yes I did mean everything I said.” Gavin smiles, “I told you that you liked me.” Kaya nods her head sarcastically. Gavin laughs, “See told you guys she is one question away from being my girlfriend.” Kaya smirks, “Hey everyone!” The boys all crowd around the phone, “Hello Ms. Grayson!” They all sing in harmony. Kaya smirks again, “Are you guys all okay with moving into my building?” Kevin answers, “Well seeing as how Gav already filled us in on what is going on and that romantic invitation how could we refuse.” Kaya laughs, “All right well I have to get back to work someone is at my secretaries desk wanting to come in. I will go see you soon. Call me if you need anything.” Gavin smiles, “I will oh and the guys want to meet the girls so if they don’t mind.” Kaya grins, “yeah I’ll let them know.” They wave and hang up and she puts her phone in her pocket as she hits the buzzer for Katie’s desk, “Who is it Katie?” Katie responds with, “It’s Mr. Simmons he said he wanted to drop off a contract.” Kaya rolls her eyes, “fine send him in. Thanks, Katie and tell Tyler will you about the pigeon crap that I just saw on my window.” Kaya can almost hear the laugh that Katie is holding back, “I will tell him right now.” The buzzer goes off and the door opens. In walks a man that has an athletic build and tall stature. He has black hair and jet-black eyes. His pale skin plays well with his hair and eyes giving him an unapproachable look. He walks over the other side of her desk and drops a file on her desk, “I didn’t think I would see you here the rest of the day.” Kaya goes through the files on her desk and doesn’t make eye contact, “Well business never stops. Is there something else that I can help you with Simmons?” Richard drops the smile that he walked in with, “I asked you to stop calling me that. You know you should be calling me Richard or even Rick.” Kaya holds back the urge to roll her eyes, “what do you want Simmons?” Richard shrugs and plasters on his conceded smiles again, “Simply here to drop that off and say hello.” Kaya finally looks up from her desk, “Well you dropped it off and said hello now if you would excuse me I would like to get my work done.” Kaya walks around her desk and heads to her door to let him out. Richard grabs her by the wrist, and she controls her reflexes so that she doesn’t hit him, “Let go of me Simmons.” Richard brings her hand to his lips and places a small kiss on her knuckles, “I will never let go of you.” He whispers and it send an urge to vomit to Kaya’s stomach. Richard puts her hand down, “It’s a shame you had to come into the office on a day like this. After all you have your hands full with all the PR and contract dealings right now.” Richard turns and walks to the door as Tyler is opening it to come in. Kaya’s irritation is getting the better of her, “What do mean by that” The annoyance in her voice is apparent and Richard smirks at her which make her angry now, “Nothing at all. It just seems to be funny how as soon as a man is seen with you his world is thrown into chaos. I would be careful with your new toy if I were you.” Tyler walks past him to his sister’s side, “I would be careful with what you say next Simmons we are still the CEO and CFO of this company.” Richard puts his hands up in surrender and grins at the pair of them as Kaya calms herself now, “Is that a threat?” Richard opens his mouth in shock as he stands at the open door, “of course not just a simple observation but I would suggest you leave the new toy behind after all you wouldn’t want a repeat of Lucas.” Richard leaves with nothing further to say before Kaya can say anything else and closes the door behind him.

She walks to her door and locks it then she walks over to her couches and drops down on one of them. Once she feels her brother next to her, she feels a tear come down her cheek and whispers to herself, “Lucas…” Tyler puts his arm around her, “Lucas wasn’t your fault he was a grown man that made mistakes we all make them it’s how you handle them after that define who you are remember. You are the one that taught me that.” Kaya takes a deep breath and Tyler wipes away her tear. They sit back on the couch, and both throw their heads back to stare at the ceiling as they sink into the couch. Kaya finally speaks up after a while, “What the f**k are you up to now Simmons?”” She hear a knock at her door and gets up to unlock it checking her reflection beforehand and then she walks back over to the couch and sits down next to Tyler. Katie comes in with a tablet after Kaya calls for her to come in. They go over lunch and then have a set up for meetings and conference calls and contracts. Kaya finishes out her day and heads to the clubhouse to finish her work and eat dinner with the girls. She get up there and sees that Pay has already made dinner. Homemade pizza, pasta, salad, and beer. Kaya drops her blazer off on the back of her chair then washes up and sits down at the table in the dining area. They eat and drink the first sips of their beers before going into a full discussion on what the day entailed for each of them.
