Chapter 7

As they eat Tyler walks off the elevator with a woman who look just like Mallory but with light brown hair. They walk over to the girls and Payton gets up and sets out more plates, food, and beer. The pair sit down as Mallory looks across the table, “Well this is a rare treat Ann to what do we owe the pleasure?” Anna sits down with Tyler and smiles, “Well little sister we happened to want to check in on all of you. Is it a crime to want to check in on the four girls who besides you I see as my little sisters?” Mal puts her hands up in surrender, “Just asking sister didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.” Kaya finally finishes chewing and grabs her beer, “Well that explains her but why are you here Ty?” Tyler doesn’t look up but keeps eating, “My wife wanted to check on you and so did I. I mean it has been one hell of a day.” Kaya rolls her eyes and Case lets out a muffled snort. They eat for a few minutes in silence until Payton speaks up, “Well this is a treat. If the media could see this dinner they would all bust their loads.” The girls start laughing and Mal chimes in, “You got us there Pay! Let’s have some drinks after dinner and some games, everyone in?” Casey speaks up, “We have work to get done Mal. We need to finish that up first.” Mal grumbles under her breath and Kaya smirks, “Well we should only have about an hour’s worth of work so we can do that after. I could use a break for the night that’s for sure.” Case lets out a huff, “Yeah we know you can for sure. By the way how did the press conference go? I was stuck in some meetings today, so I didn’t catch it.” Kaya shovels some food on to her fork, “it went as planned but his crazy ass ex showed up and before you ask she made things look great for me, so I guess it was a good thing she came in drunk off her ass. The media will probably run it again tonight and tomorrow.” Pay swallows her food and take a drink, “How is lover boy doing with all the news? I didn’t have the chance to text you since I was busy with some meetings from Tokyo and Paris.” Kaya shrug her shoulders while she takes a drink, “I don’t know I haven’t talked to him since this morning. But his manager/mother said they would go with whatever I said in the press conference this afternoon. I left Berny with them to let them know what I was planning this morning and I sent him an email right before the press conference which he said they agreed with when it came to my solution to the problem. I need to figure out if his accident was really an accident or if it was connected to me and the recent activity we have been having.”

Casey nods, “I found a few things in the files that I got from one of my contacts. The SUV that you mentioned to me in the email that you sent me today it was a fake registration probably a dummy car and plates. Seems like someone was trying to send a message.” Kaya takes another drink, “Makes sense. Hey Mal, did you find anything on that guy from the hospital? Or the drug cases you have?” Mal swallows her food and takes a drink, “I found the file on the guy, but the file was fake, and the guy left after that so we couldn’t find him anywhere in the hospital. As for the drug cases I haven’t found anything but I did send the chemical makeup to Anna. Have you had a chance to look at the files that I sent you?” Anna nods her head, “It seems that the chemical makeup is heroin like you thought but it’s laced with Scopolamine. It’s called the truth serum drug and was used for a long time in interrogations by the world’s most powerful militaries but what most don’t know is that it can also rob the person of free will leaving them completely helpless to the wishes of whatever the person giving them the drug are. It makes this strand of heroin problematic.” Tyler takes a drink of his beer, “Babe but what does that mean for the person I thought that drug could kill you almost immediately?” Anna shakes her head after taking a big bite, “no and yes. If the does is at the right amount then you can get the information and behavior that you want if it’s even a fraction off then it can kill you. Oh, Mal I Ran the DNA that you sent me too. It had traces of Versed left in it. I would run a full autopsy if I were you and look in the muscle tissue and on the bones for any wounds.” Kaya looks up, “What is versed?” Anna takes a drink, “it is a drug that can be used to torture someone and have the entire event purged from their minds. You can torture the person for hours with methods that won’t leave marks on the skin and the person would never be the wiser once the drug is out of their system. Although the person is fully aware while this is happening and is able to feel the pain they would have holes in their memory when they tried to remember why their body felt so bad.” Mal nods her head, “Well it helps to have the world’s best biochemist in the family. I have my team working on it now, but I will tell them to keep a look out for that too. I have to give this over to the military once I’m done with my research.”

Anna nods her head, “They probably think it’s going to turn into some sort of pandemic if this drug gets out there. They will have a huge problem.” Casey nods, “I can only imagine the kind of problems this kind of drug will cause if it goes mainstream on the streets.” Mal shakes her head, “so far I think it is just being tested but yeah if it does get out then that is a big problem. Ah how the government turns to the wealthiest of the country for help.” Payton laughs, “Well we are all considered the best and brightest. The whole world has called everyone at this table has always been seen as a protégé. We are the top of the world’s elite they are always going to turn to us. Oh, I almost forgot to ask hey Ky how is the new project going in Singapore?” Kaya nods her head, “the merger went through, and we built up the stock market now we are involved in 30% of the entire worlds stock transactions. The real estate that we have now is already under construction.” Tyler smiles as he puts his arm on the back of his wife’s chair, “we should be able to the open the facilities for the surrounding villages on time with the other facilities that we have being finished in Africa and here in the states.” Mal nods as she leans back, “the medical teams are all trained and ready to go when the facilities open and the students in the medical field are on track to graduate in the projected time frames for each facility.” Kaya smiles, “Now we just need the contract to go through for the last piece of it and this will mean a reduction in homelessness, hunger, and poverty by 27% for the world’s population. Oh, Simmons came by my office today.” Mal stops eating, “What did that snake want?” Tyler answers first, “He just came to try to make Ky feel bad about Luc but what was weird was he gave me the feeling that he had something to do with him.”

Mal shakes her head as she lets out a sigh, “We thought that might be the case, but we haven’t been able to find anything connecting him to Luc since the accident. We do know that Ky’s accident last year wasn’t an accident and Lex was in danger so be careful with Lex and don’t let her get away from her team. I don’t know if someone will be there to stop them from hurting my niece next time.” Kaya kicks Mal under the table as she nods in Anna’s direction who is now upset to which Mal mentally face palms herself. Kaya looks at Tyler who is now starting to look angry again, “I have that covered Ty a pair of eyes that have never failed before.” Tyler looks at her shocked, “You don’t mean?” Kaya nods and he goes on, “That’s how you manage to stop them from taking Lex? How long have you been keeping an eye on Lex?” Kaya sighs, “Since the accident. Something seemed off to me, so I have had eyes on all of you and the entire family since then. M is coming by the way so try not to worry too much.” Tyler takes a drink, “Things must be worse than I thought or are telling us if you had to call M. Well at least now I can breathe a little easier.” The rest of the table looks confused, so Anna speaks up, “Are you two ever going to tell us about this “M” character?” Tyler and Kaya look at each other than Kaya shakes her head, “Nope unless you want to die a very painful and horrible death. Just be happy you are married to a Grayson.” Kaya gives off an end of discussion tone which send the message loud and clear to the rest of the table so Anna gives up, “Fine just make sure that you aren’t doing anything that can get you in trouble.” Tyler and Kaya let out a laugh then Kaya says, “Trust me Ann, with all the people we have met in our lives M is the last one you have to worry about. We met M when we were sent for training survival training in Thailand. That’s really all we can say that was after we were kidnapped, and gramps went through the whole we need to be prepared for everything phase.” Tyler lets out a laugh, “That old man is crazy remember that he told us before we left that being a Grayson didn’t just mean we had to be smart it meant we also had to walk the walk.” Kaya chuckles, “He is crazy but you just gotta love the guy.” Kaya looks around the table since everyone is just staring at the two of them now, “What?” Mal c***s her eyebrow at them, “Geesh I know we have all always had it a bit rough growing up, but it was like you two grew up to be spies or something.” Kaya rolls her eyes, “Mal what the f**k are you talking about? We just grew up with all the things that a family would give their kids.” Payton scoffs, “Yeah as well as being taught to speak 7 different languages, hand to hand combat with oh I don’t is it 6 different black belts now, having nannies that were trained in the military and have weapons training and having them teach you weapons training, survival training in the wild, hostage negotiation skills, and having built up immunities to poisons and toxins that are widely used around the world. Yeah just like every other family in the world.”

Tyler shrugs, “Well we come from a powerful family and after the kidnapping we were put under protection, but we needed to be protected too so eh, what’s a little training bad for?” Anna rolls her eyes, “Girls just let it go you know as well as I do that being a Grayson is a lot more trouble and pressure than the world actually thinks.” Casey chimes in after a drink of her new beer, “That’s true but then again all our families are seen that way. It doesn’t surprise me that they were groomed the way that they were after all we were all raised with a weird sense of child rearing in our parent’s minds. That’s because we were all raised to run global empires.” Payton chuckles again, “I guess you have a point there but the fact that the Grayson siblings both have photogenic memories is just not fair.” The table starts laughing as they all start to get up and bring their plates to the kitchen to wash them. They all do their part to clean up and get to the living room area to work on the things they need to work on. They all work in silence as they go through the files and mounds of work that they each have on their computers. Kaya sees a couple messages pop up on her personal phone that she leaves till she is done with the last of her work an hour later. Once the group is done and the living room is cleaned up they go to the game room for drinks and pool. Then Kaya remembers her phone after she takes her shot and finishes her turn with only one ball and the eight-ball left. She pulls out her phone as Casey takes the shot and makes one. She sees two messages one from Albert the Albie and one from Gavin. Casey misses her last shot and Kaya finishes the game winning in the process then sits down on the couch to answer her messages. She opens the one from Albie asking where her and Berny are and what the deal is with the press conference. She quickly sends off a message as she walks outside onto the balcony to facetime her. Albie does and she answers on the first ring. 

Kaya smiles, “Hey Albie. I am at the club house and Berny is at the hospital with the guy from the pictures and yes before you ask the pictures were a way to lure me out and no I wasn’t dating him before that was the first night that we met and yes I did mean everything I said in the press conference and yes I do like him, and I want to see where things go. He is interesting. Also, there is a full security detail with Berny at the hospital.” Albert who has been patiently waiting this whole time finally speaks up, “Well I am happy to know that you are still letting me know what is going on with you and our family. Okay well you are going to give me details when you come home. When are you coming home? I have been worried sick about the both of you.” Kaya smirks, “I’m sorry Albie it’s just been a really crazy few days. I will be home tomorrow. I am bringing home some work that I need to finish up and checking in on some projects that need my attention.” Albie lets out a sigh and leans his head on his hand, “sweetheart when are you going to understand you will end up working yourself to death if you keep this up.” Kaya smirks, “Albie you are such a mother hen. I promise I will take a break after this major deal goes through but for now I need to get everything done.” Albie lets out another loud sigh, “Very well I guess that is all I am going to get from you right now. Just try to take it easy will you? Are you sleeping enough? Are you eating proper meals?” Kaya lets out a laugh and looks down then back at the camera, “yes mother.” Albie rolls his eyes, “Fine I’ll stop. I take it from the new that you just broke you have a plan for all this. Am I getting the floor below us ready for company then?” Kaya nods with a grin, “yeah they are going to have to be there for a while and they also need access to a recording studio so do you mind getting them that and getting them used to living the life of one of our own well with the security and all that and can you get the NDAs ready. They need to sigh all of that since they will be around us and the girls for a while.” Albie nods his head, “All right all right I will get everything ready for them and keep them all well stocked. Will I be available to them, or should I assign staff to them?” Kaya looks out at the view, “I want you to introduce them to their new surroundings and then have the staff that you assign to them take over and just keep an eye on everything. Your all-seeing eye is the best and the only one I trust to oversee all of this.” Albie lets out a chuckle, “and now she is trying to smooth things over with flattery. All right I will get everything done but its only because I love my little girl. I need the files you have on them. I also need to find out if they have any dietary restrictions.” Kaya grins, “I just sent you everything I have on them but as for the dietary stuff I don’t think I saw anything in there, but I think Berny got it all. You know how he is.” Albie smiles, “Yes well my hubby is very detail oriented if he can get the times that they fart he will.” They start laughing and then Albie goes on, “sweetheart just try to take it easy I don’t want you burning the candle at both ends.” Kaya smiles, “I won’t I promise. I have another call coming through. I gotta go. Love you Albie.” Albie smiles, “All right love you too sweetheart. See you tomorrow.” She nods and they hang up then she answers the new call and its Gavin. She smiles, “Hey! Sorry I was on the phone, so I couldn’t answer your text yet. How is it going over there? How do you feel?” Gavin smiles, “Well you are a busy lady after all.” They laugh and he goes on, “It’s fine here. Bernard is really helpful even though he is kind of scary.” Kaya laughs, “He takes a while to warm up to people it’s the military training. He’s the best though.” Gavin laughs, “Well I guess that’s understandable you would have ex-military as your personal assistant.” Kaya laughs, “Well I am a Grayson.” Gavin rolls his eyes, “Is that your families answer for everything that is crazy and you do?” Kaya nods, “yeah pretty much.” Gavin rolls his eyes again which earns him a snicker from Kaya, “well to answer your second question I feel fine. I should be out in a few days. Oh, my mom wanted me to ask if there is anything you need her to do before we move when I get out?” Kaya nods her head, “You will all need to sign new NDAs before coming into the building they are way more detailed. I know it sounds overboard but…” Gavin cuts her off by putting his hand up, “but your family is the Grayson family, and your family is powerful and wealthy, also not to mention that your family is very close to 3 other powerful families. Don’t worry if I was in your position I would do the same thing. I’ll make sure that I tell my mom. Trust me I get it.” Kaya lets out a sigh of relief, “So how is everything else are you getting any hate from your fans for dating me?” Gavin chuckles, “no not really just the fans seem to be loving the fact that I’m dating you. A lot of them have agreed that you are worthy of dating and marrying their king.” Gavin lets out an evil laugh and Kaya starts laughing too. 

Kaya hears the girls calling her and turns around then looks back to the phone, “Well that’s good I guess.” Gavin notices her turning and then feels a yawn come on, “Sorry I get sleepy when the room is cold, and I have warm blankets on me. Yeah it is a good thing, and the press conference wasn’t a bad thing. I’m sorry about Tracey by the way. She didn’t take the breakup well and she is a spoiled rich girl and entitled super model so it’s a little hard for her to deal with rejection.” Kaya grins, “Yeah I haven’t noticed.” They start laughing, “Look it’s fine don’t worry about that I have had my fair share of dealing with rich girls who think they are better than me just because of the fact that I’m adopted, and they were born into their families.” Gavin lets out a sigh as he puts one hand behind his head, “Well still I’m sorry you have to deal with the crazy ex.” Kaya shrugs, “it’s fine trust me. I just want to make sure that you are okay.” Gavin gives her a thoughtful look which throws her a little, “What is it? Do I have something on my face?” Gavin chuckles, “no you don’t it’s just that you are showing me little by little that you really are a total softy at heart and not like all those stories of being a cold and hateful CEO.” Kaya blushes and looks away from the phone which makes Gavin giggle slightly, “Is the big bad Kaya Grayson blushing?” Kaya shakes her head, and he goes on, “Well in any case you look cute when you are blushing. Hey, I’m a little tired since the boys and I were hanging out all day and writing. I just really wanted to see you before I went to sleep.” Kaya smiles at him now, “Well I’m glad you called. You should get some rest. I will talk to you tomorrow.” Gavin nods, “Okay good night my beautiful goddess.” Kaya grins, “I could get used to goddess. Goodnight my sweet king.” Gavin smiles, “You are now and always my goddess. Goodnight.” Kaya grins and rolls her eyes, “Goodnight.” They hand up and Kaya stands outside for a little while longer grinning like an i***t. She straightens up and then walks back inside where the gang has started playing Mario Kart. They all play for a while more and then head to bed.
