Chapter Ten

After seeing that I'm going to drink this one slower Scott sits down beside me. Again we sit in silence. "How about some conversation?" I ask him, trying to avoid the awkward silence in the air betwen us. "Sure." He smiles. "So how are you enjoying the party?" "Well I'm only three drinks in right now so.." I start to reply, until I see the look of doubt on his face. "But I'm glad I came." Those last words perk him up. He look at me then smiles. "Me too." He says. "I'm also glad you're giving me a chance tonight." "You know what?" I ask which earns me a questioning glance from him. "I am too." I can feel the alcohol starting to take effect. My face is starting to feel warm, and I can feel my body relax as I lean back in my chair. Looking up at the beautiful night sky, I feel all my worries draining away. I can feel Scott watching me as I do so. "The stars are beautiful tonight." I say. "I don't think I've ever see the sky so clear." "Yes, they are." He agrees looking up. We sit like this for a few minutes enjoying the beauty of the open night sky. Sipping our drinks as we stargaze. As I near the bottom of my glass, I look at Scott who is still studying the sky. As I put my empty glass down, I try to think of something to say to start the conversation back up. "Scott?" I ask pulling his attention back to me. "Yes," he answers. "What is it? Would you like another drink?" "Yes," I say. "But that's not what I was going to ask." "Ask away." He says turning to me. "I'm all ears." I laugh at him holding his hand around his ear as if he's trying to hear me better. "How come you haven't found your mate?" He looks away , shifting his gaze away from me. "Well," He says. "I guess I'm just not ready to meet her yet. Or atleast the moon goddess doesn't think so." I've never thought about it that way. In Scotts mind, everyone meets their mate when the moon goddess is ready for them to meet. Maybe that's why I haven't meet mine either. The moon goddess doesn't think I'm ready for my mate. I guess that one way to look at it. "Oh," I say. "I would've never guessed the infamous Scott Maverick, could be so deep." We both burst out laughing. It feels good to laugh. When when both settle down, it's silent between us. Again. "Let me go get you another drink." He says getting up. "I'll be right back." Leaving me alone once again. As I sit in silence, I get that feeling again. I'm being watched. I start scanning the crowd for any looking eyes but find none. In the swarm of people, I see Amber and Dylan talking with some other pack members. They seem to be enjoying themselves. *See,* Pearl tells me. *This isn't so bad.* I smile at her comment. *Yeah, it's actually kinda nice.* I tell her.*Except the fact I keep feel like I'm being watched.* *Hmpf.* She scoffs. *You're just being paranoid.* *Maybe you're right.* I tell her, she's still in doubting my intuition. Scott soon returns, with another round of drinks for us. I take mine from him and take a drink from the cup. It's nice and cold. And very refreshing. Scott watches me as he takes a sip from his glass. "So what made you change you mind?" He asks still watching me. "What do you mean?" I ask, knowing exactly what he's talking about. "You know," He starts. "You never have given me the time of day, now you're willing to give me chance. What gives?" "Well Scott," I start. "Honestly, I made a couple promises to allow myself to have a good time tonight." "Oh really?" He asks smiling. "You had to promise to have a good time?" "When you put it that way," I tell him. "It's sounds like I'm a glutton for punishment." He laughs a my remark and I can't help myself. I laugh too. "No," He says. "I get it. I really do." Doubtful. How could the packs all star boy, know what it feels like to force yourself to be optimistic. But I guess it isn't unblievable. I look at him studying the expression on his face. His green eyes seem so sincere. "Well anyways," He says. "I'm glad you did. Because it gives me a chance to do this." He leans in close, putting his hand behind my neck and plants a kiss right on my lips. I was shocked. I hadn't expected him To go this far, even though I kneww what he wanted from the get go. To my surprise, I didn't pull back. I indulged in his sudden whim. I forgot how nice it was to actually kiss someone. He pulls back smiling. Making sure to rub my cheek with his hand as he does. I feel myself turning bright red. I conert my eyes to were Amber and Dylan just were, except they were gone. My stomach starts turning and I feel a throbbing pain creeping up the back of my neck. I start looking for something to fan myself as a wave of heat washes over me. The cool, humid night air was not helping. I can now feel the sweat on the back of my neck start to roll and drip underneath the back of my shirt. My hands were starting to feel clammy. I don't feel so good. "You okay?" He asks, watching me. "It couldn't have been that bad." "No, it wasn't." I reply with a pained voice. "I just started feeling sick all of sudden." He looks at me quitely. "Sorry, Scott." I tell him. "I think I need to go home." I make gesture to get up. Not the best idea I've ever had. The feeling of sickness intensified causing my head to spin. Scott grabs my arm trying to help me get my balance back. "I think I need to go find Amber." I tell him. "Are you sure?" He asks. "Maybe you drank a little too much and stood up too fast." Maybe but the feeling isn't letting up. Definitely putting a damper on my evening. "I think it best if I go home." I tell him looking at the ground. "Okay then," He tells me, standing me upright. "Atleast let me drive you home." "I should really get Amber." I tell him shaking me head. "I don't see them anywhere." He tells me. "Besides I'm sure she wouldn't mind a friend taking you home." *Just let him take us home.* Pearl says. *I'm not feeling good. I'm ready to go home.* "Yeah, okay." I agree to his ride home. "Let's go." My vision now so blurry I can't even make out Scott's face inches from mine. My head is spinning and throbbing. I know I can't walk straight. I lean my head on Scott's shoulder. I let him lead the way to his truck that way parked on the side of the packhouse. Leaning against the passenger door, is the last thing I remeber before blacking out.
