~ Chapter Two ~ Is She Your Significant?

2097 Words
I couldn’t believe all the things Queen Crystal planned for my birthday. I would have been happy with just the breakfast buffet, but she planned out an entire day and night of events for me. I was a little overwhelmed with all the love the Parks family was giving me, but I was grateful and very appreciative. After breakfast, King Caelan, Cyir, Christopher, Christian and I went into town to get something to wear tonight for my not really a surprise party. The ladies had a boutique coming to the Palace to show them dresses for this evening, so they all stayed at the Palace.            “Hey Dexter, what do you think about this Giorgio Armani Madison line full-canvas velvet suit with a double-breasted jacket? It looks like your style.” Christopher asked me and I looked over the suit. It was definitely my style, but I could tell it was probably the most expensive suit in the little shop we were in.            “It’s your birthday, don’t worry about the price.” Cyir said and chuckled when I raised my eyebrow at him, wondering how he knew I was thinking about the price.            “We’ve all done it but what you will learn in this family is, the price doesn’t matter. Get what you want and what you will be comfortable with. Today is your day. We are here to celebrate you and that suit is going to look like fire on you.” Christopher said, and I looked at the suit again before grabbing it from Cyir and walking into the dressing room.            “Excuse me Ma’am, do you guys have a tailor in the store?” I heard King Caelan asked after I walked into the dressing room.            “Yes sir, I’ll go get Unique now.” The store associate said, and I could hear her walking away.            It is amazing how much my hearing and seeing improved from when I went to sleep last night to when I woke up this morning. I could literally hear a pin drop on the carpet. My sense of smell was also heightened.            “Sir, this is Unique. She is our store tailor.” The store associate said.            “Thank you, Brittany. Hello sir, what would you like to be altered?” Unique said and I could hear footsteps walking towards my dressing room.            “Dexter, come on out son. Let me see how you look.” King Caelan said, and I slowly opened the door.            “It looks like the pants are a little too big. Let me see if we have a smaller size. I’ll be right back.” Unique said and walked away. A few minutes later, she returned with two of the same suit, in smaller sizes.            “Damn Bro, you clean up very well. That looks great on you.” Cyir said after I changed into the pants one size smaller.            “Unique, can you in the crotch a little bit?” King Caelan asked the tailor and she nodded.            “The sleeves need to be a tad bit longer. Can you do that also, Unique?” Christopher asked, and Unique looked up the inside of the sleeve of the jacket and nodded.            “Great. How long?” King Caelan asked with a smile.            “Twenty minutes after purchase.” Unique said with a smile.            “Alright, you boys find something to wear. Dexter, you can change back into your clothes and go over there and look at shoes.” King Caelan said, and we all did what he said.            It was almost lunch time when we were done at the little shop, so Christopher called back to the Palace to see if we could return or if they needed us to come back later. Once we were cleared to head back to the Palace, we did. It didn’t take us long to get back to the Palace and as soon as we arrived, Thomas started to stir with anticipation in me. When I stepped out of the car, I knew Angel had to be somewhere close because her scent almost knocked me down. Before we could get to the front door, I was completely surrounded by her scent and Thomas was excited. I had heard stories about the mate bond and all the signs that tell you who your mate is, but I never imagined it would be like this. When we walked into the Palace, Imani and Hope were sitting on the couch in the main entrance corridor with Little Caelan and Baby Jameson. Christopher and Christian walked over to them and before anyone could ask, Angel came around the corner with the biggest smile on her face.            “You’re back. Did you have a good time?” Angel asked me as she walked up to me and softly pecked my lips. I couldn’t help but to wrap my arms around her waist and pull her closer to me.            “I missed you but yeah it was a good time.” I said and pecked her lips a couple times before letting her go.            “I was coming to let you all know that mom said lunch is being served in the courtyard because the dining hall is being set up for the party tonight. Oh, and yes, lunch is being served now.” She said with a smile, and everybody quickly walked to the courtyard except for me. I grabbed Angel’s hand and slowly walked with her to the courtyard.            It was crazy how much I actually missed her. We were only gone a few hours, but it felt like I had been gone all day.            “How was your morning beautiful?” I asked her as we walked towards the back door that leads to the courtyard.            “Kind of busy but worth it. I can’t wait for you to see me in my dress later tonight.” She said and I smiled.            “This is crazy, I can’t believe your mom is doing all of this for me. I can’t remember my birthday ever being so carefully and considerately planned. I have never had a party.” I said, and she smiled.            “You’re worth all this fuss. One day you’re going to be the King of this Kingdom, and everybody should know that you are MINES! I was hoping my family would celebrate you and I’m glad my mom pulled out all the stops like you are one of her boys. They’re spoiled, you know. All three of them, or I should save four because Colton is just as spoiled. Now its your turn.” Angel said as we walked out and into the courtyard.            “You smell like Strawberry French Toast, and I can’t get enough of that scent.” I said, and she looked at me and smiled.            “I wonder what you’re going to smell like when I get my wolf.” She said and just as I was about to say something, I heard Queen Crystal call my name and I turned to face her.            “Yes.” I answered, not knowing how to really address her. She told me at breakfast that I didn’t need to address her as Queen Crystal, so now I’m just confused.            “Come over here for a second, son.” Queen Crystal said with a bright smile, and I walked over to her.            “Thank you. Thank you for all of this. I can’t remember a time my birth was celebrated, and I’ve never had a party before. This is truly appreciated, and I am eternally grateful… mom.” I said and it just felt right at the moment to call her mom.            “You’re welcome but that isn’t why I called you over. Dexter, how many members of your kingdom have you met?” She asked me and I looked at her confused.            “Members of my kingdom? None. I don’t believe I have met any other members of the Valarian Kingdom. Why do you ask?” I said and she smiled and nodded.            “You may all take your seats; lunch is going to be served shortly. Angel, Christopher, and Cyir, come with us. Dexter, please follow me.” Queen Crystal said, and we all followed her back to the Palace and into the small dining room next to the dining hall.            As soon as we walked in the room, there was a loud gasp and my eyes instantly snapped in the direction it came from. There was a small group of people, maybe ten or so, and they were all staring at me with admiration, and I was even more confused. The small group of people all started to whisper among themselves, but with wolf hearing, I could hear them clearly.            “He is a splitting image of King Damien.” One whispered firmly.            “I think he’s a perfect blend of them both, but I definitely see Queen Madaline in his eyes.” Another whispered and they all looked back at me.            “I think he looks more like Queen Madaline.” A third one whispered.            “I think I look more like my father, but I agree I have some of my mother’s physical characteristics, such as her eyes and her chin.” I said aloud, and the entire group froze in place as Cyir started to laugh.            “Excuse my i***t of a brother for laughing, but I’m sure you all know that Dexter is a hybrid dragon and wolf, right?” Christopher asked as he slapped Cyir upside his head and a couple of them nodded yes.            “Werewolves have heightened hearing, so we heard what you all were saying even though you were trying to whisper it among yourselves.” Christopher continued and they all visibly relaxed and a few of them smiled.            “Hello King Dexter, we have only heard stories about your birth, but we all thought you were dead. Daniel told us there was an accident and that you were killed. We thought we had lost our king forever.” A small petite woman with fire-red hair and bright blue eyes said.            “I am alive, what is your name?” I asked and the woman smiled.            “Jocelyn, my King.” The woman said, and I smiled.            “Jocelyn, when did Daniel tell you I was in an accident?” I asked her and she turned to look at a man standing beside her.            “I’m Corbett, Jocelyn’s husband, my king. He told us you were dead almost six years ago. So, imagine our surprise when Queen Crystal reached out to us and told us that our king has reached the age of eighteen and the Moroccan Kingdom is planning to celebrate him.” The man said and I looked at Queen Crystal.            “I don’t understand why the Moroccan kingdom is celebrating you instead of your people, us.” Jocelyn said, and I smiled at your people.            “Well, that’s a long story and it is lunch time. So why don’t you all join us for lunch, and I will catch you all up afterwards.” I said, and Jocelyn smiled as the rest of them nodded.            “Umm King Dexter, I can’t help but notice the glow around the young woman beside you, is she your significant?” An elderly woman asked, and I looked at Angel.            “My significant?” I asked and the elderly woman chuckled.            “I’m sorry my dear, a significant to a dragon would be the same as a mate to a werewolf. My name is Cora Bridges, my king.” The elderly woman said, and I smiled.            “Yes Cora, this is Angel, she is my significant, my mate, my life source.” I said and Angel smiled.            “I suppose since your mother was a strong Beta wolf, and you were conceived, then your significant, could also be a strong Beta wolf and conceive us an heir.” Cora said, and before I could speak, Angel spoke.            “I’m actually an Alpha wolf with human royal blood. I am the future Queen of this kingdom.” Angel said, and Cora nodded.            “And our kingdom also.” Cora said, and Angel looked at her with a smile.            “Yes, I suppose I am the future Queen of the Valarian Kingdom also.” Angel said, and they all nodded.            “Let’s continue this after lunch. Please do join us. All of you.” Queen Crystal said and everybody agreed, then walked back out to the courtyard.
