“We are going to get it,” a voice said.
“Is it really worth it?” another asked.
“You were the one that wanted it. You were begging for it, and now, you just want to throw it away.”
They debated like this for a few minutes. I was sure they were after me, but they jumped when they both got to me. They seemed just as surprised to see me as I was to see them. They looked like sisters, but the one was just slightly taller than the other. “What do we do?” the taller one asked.
“We can’t leave it trapped like that,” the shorter one stated, walking closer to me. I growled, and she took a step back.
“I didn’t say we should.” The taller one took a step closer to me. I growled at her, but she didn’t take a step back. “You’re ok. We aren’t going to hurt you.”
The shorter one looked down at her phone. “No service.”
“I think that we had service by the car.” The taller one looked down at her phone.
The shorter one looked behind her. “That still leaves us the problem of leaving her.”
“Her? How can you tell that it’s a she?” the taller one asked, taking another step toward me. I still growled at her, but she still refused to move from me.
“Remind me to talk to you about anatomy,” the shorter one told her, laughing.
The taller one took one more step closer to me. I didn’t growl this time, but I made it clear I didn’t want her near me. “We could split up.”
“Is that a good idea?” the shorter one asked.
“In a city, I would say without a doubt no, but we are in the forest, and most likely the trap was set today, so it’s not like the people will be back to check the trap until later. So, it should be fine.” She just stood there, looking down at me.
“Who should go back to the car then?”
“You,” the taller one said confidently.
“Why me?”
“You saw me get lost in a room with one door,” the taller one said, shaking her head.
The shorter one laughed. “It had two doors, but I do see your point. Will you be alright here?”
“Alone? In the woods?” the taller one asked. The taller one waited for a moment for an answer but then continued, “I’ll be ok. What about you? Will you be ok?” the taller one asked, walking over to her friend. She placed a hand on her shoulder.
“I’ll be fine.”
The taller one smiled. “Be careful. Call the game commission of this area as soon as you get service. Don’t come find me until they meet up with you, ok?” The shorter one pulled her in for a hug. “I’m not much of a hugger, neither are you.”
“I know, but I’m worried. Something feels off about this,” the shorter one said.
“Everything is going to be fine,” the taller one said, with a smile. “I’ll be waiting for your return, just like the damsel in distress that you always thought that I was.”
The shorter one laughed but didn’t say anything as she walked off. For a little while, the taller one walked around and then tried to get close to me, but I would growl, and she would walk away. She finally got bored of walking over to me and me growling, so she just walked around on her own for a little, and then she got bored of that and sat down and started building a fort made out of sticks. Eventually, it seemed that we were both fine.
Then the two men that you got me away from came up. They talked to her, but then she seemed to get a little freaked out and started walking over to me, and she stood in front of me. They started getting angry with her, saying something along the lines of wanting a consolation prize. That is right before they hit her. She took one sharp hit to the face. She looked angry about it. Her lip was bleeding. The other man, that hadn’t hit her yet, tried to hit her too, but she blocked him, but that was all she could do, because the other one, the one that hit her, hit her with the butt of his gun, and then the two of them hit her for a while.
Finally, the one that started the fight turned to his friend. “Are you ready for your consultation prize?”
“Yes.”
The first one got down and straddled her, and began ripping at her top. I tried to find a way to open the trap, but it was cutting my leg, and there was nothing that I could do but watch. She had tried to help me, and she was only there because she wanted to help me, and I felt useless to protect her. Thank the moon, you guys got to her first. She could have been seriously hurt or killed if it wouldn’t have been for you guys, and I would have been killed if it wasn’t for her.
