I wasn’t sure how long Angela and I sat in my room before a loud knock on my door interrupted us.
“Expecting someone?” she asked me and I shook my head in confusion. I stood up and went to open the door. To my shock, it was none other than the big Alpha himself staring down at me with his empty eyes. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking or why he had come. He stepped forward, pushing me back into the room. For just a split second, his eyes lifted, noticing Angela sitting on my bed.
“Leave us!” he practically ordered her.
“Don’t be rude, brother,” she replied, but at the same time she stood up and walked towards the door. He kept pushing me back as he walked deeper into the room. Angela winked at me before she closed the door on her way out.
Adrian pushed me until my legs hit the edge of the bed. I had nowhere else to go. His eyes were still firmly locked on me, but his expression was empty, just like his eyes. I didn’t know whether he was angry or not. His face didn’t give away a thing.
Just as I gathered enough courage to talk and ask him why he came, the pressure of his presence decreased as his eyes moved away from me, looking around the room. He scanned my entire room, and I could see that from time to time his eyes landed on a particular object which had caught his attention and he stopped there for a brief moment.
“You are not allowed to go to the training ground again,” he said suddenly, with his back turned to me.
“Why?” I asked, but almost instantly turned around and the pressure of his presence pushed me back. I tripped over the edge of the bed and landed on it. He didn’t hesitate and pinned me to the bed right away.
“Don’t question me.” Angela was right about him forcing his power onto everyone. At some point, I understood his way of acting, but we were alone. I wasn’t his enemy. I was the one who should always be at his side, but he didn’t let me come close. He simply continued his usual behavior as if I was one of those who had challenged him over the past decades, always lurking, waiting for him to make a simple mistake so they could remove him from his Alpha position. I wanted to tell him I wasn’t his enemy. I wanted to show him that there was a different way, but I didn’t know how. Adrian was easily provoked, and he didn’t have his emotions under control. The same desire inside me which kept calling his name and wanting to be close to him, this same desire, created fear inside me. I feared him. The two incidents, yesterday and today, him choking Emmett, although they knew each other for years created that fear. He could still hurt Emmett that much.
Suddenly, I felt a light touch on the bare skin of my belly. My hoodie must have pulled up as I fell on the bed and Adrian had probably noticed it. His fingers brushed over my skin lightly, leaving a burning trail where his fingers touched me. I hated that feeling. I hated the fact that I loved the way it felt when he touched me. This strong urge of hunger, I wanted more. I demanded more, but I couldn’t tell him.
‘Leia,’ I whispered in my mind, but no help came. Our mate was touching us, and she could feel exactly what I did. She craved his attention like I did.
My whole body was burning for him and he knew it. He felt it. Just for a brief moment, I could see the same desire in his eyes, but he was stronger than I was. As fast as that lust appeared, it was nowhere to be found just as fast. His hand moved away, and emptiness filled my heart as soon as his touch disappeared from me. I felt freezing cold in the same place that had burned just a moment ago. It hurt to the point that I almost couldn’t breathe.
He stood up, taking a few steps back, and the gap between us stabbed me right in the heart. I tried hard to not let him know how much I wanted him. I tried hard to make sure I acted normally. Just like he did. I got up from the bed and stood right in front of him.
“I want to train,” I said loudly, keeping eye contact with him.
“Not with my warriors.” His voice was calmer. Compared to how emotionless he was before when I could feel the iciness in his words, but now it was different. He wasn’t as emotionless as he had been a moment ago, yet he kept his emotions under control. I was on very thin ice, but I had to try my best to talk to him and gain something for myself before he came back to his senses.
“So where?” I asked him. My voice was soft. I wanted to show him that it was important to me, but didn’t want to raise my voice to make him feel as if I was challenging him. Challenging an unstable Alpha was the last thing I wanted to do.
Adrian looked at me, scanning me from head to toe, and I finally noticed the war inside of him. He felt the mate bond. I could see it in his eyes. He used a lot of strength and all his self-control to keep it locked deep inside his heart, but he couldn’t block it fully. There was a silence in between us for I don’t know how long before he finally shifted slightly and opened his mouth to answer me.
“You can train with Angela. I am sure she would welcome that,” he replied. For the first time, his voice sounded soft, but I had no time to enjoy the agreeable side of him. He turned around immediately and walked towards the door. My hand stretched out instinctively, and I knew my body wanted to stop him. My mind and my heart screamed.
I quickly pulled my hand back. I definitely didn’t plan to show him I wanted him, that I needed him. At least not yet. His land landed on the doorknob, but for a moment he froze. I waited for him to say something, but he didn’t move. He said nothing. The silence between us sounded like a storm in my mind. Everything around this man was wrong. Everything was messed up.
I didn’t know whether it had been seconds or minutes, but the time he spent frozen, holding the knob, felt like ages. I couldn’t even tell if I wanted him to leave or stay. His presence and his behavior confused me, but my own feelings were even more confusing.
When he finally turned the knob and opened the door, I felt relief. To my surprise, Angela was standing in the hallway, leaning on the door across from mine, and smiled softly. Adrian must have noticed her as well, because he froze for a moment again.
“Starting tomorrow, she will train with you,” he announced before he turned right and disappeared around the corner. Angela’s eyes followed him until he reached the stairs. At least I guessed that, since she kept standing there for a while.
“So?” she asked when she finally turned her head to me and stopped leaning on the door across the hallway, opposite my room. She walked inside my room and closed the door again.
“I hate him,” I said, but I knew that it wasn’t true. I didn’t hate him. Maybe I didn’t understand him, but I definitely didn’t hate him. When I finally relaxed after the pressure he emitted around himself, I collapsed on the bed again.
“No, you don’t,” she said, giving me the sweetest smile I ever saw.
