Chapter 13

The human

Ariel

When we arrived in  New Jersey, a Jeep waited for us at the Airport. The driver was a quiet grumpy man in his late 50's. He was around 5.11ft tall but I couldn't tell for sure. He was sitting but his head almost hit the top of the car. He was muscular and bald with a lumberjack beard and dense eyebrows. The boys greeted him with a big smile but he just nodded. Until he saw me and his face lit up.

-Ryder! Finally, your father will be so happy! - his voice had very respect commanding deep tone even being happy. Ryder turned to me and smiled.

- Don't be afraid he looks more dangerous than he really is. He is my father's Beta,  Wilson. -Ryder said caressing my back.

- I don't bite cutie unless you give a reason - he laughed and his eyes were sparkling with kindness which made my worries fade away.

- Nice to meet you, Wilson, my name is Ariel Cenke. – I gave my hand and he shook it with a grin. His eyes opened wide and his glance filled with surprise.

- How do you hide your scent so well? Or are we so smelly that I don't feel yours? – he asked and I shared a worried look with Ryder who asked Matt through his mind to sit next to Wilson. Later I found out that Wilson was Matthew's father and Eric's adoptive father. After we sat in the car and hit the road, we were going deep into a forest a little further from the city. Wilson asked me again.

- So little lady, what is your secret? - I looked at Ryder and he decided to take this in his hands.

- Wilson, she is a human. - Wilson stepped on the break and the car stopped with squeaking wheels. We almost hit our heads and I could've got hurt if Ryder didn't hold me. I looked at him and mouthed  “thank you" but he was extremely angry.

- Dad stop, you almost got her hurt! - Matt said and put a reassuring hand on his father's shoulder. Wilson turned to us and he didn't take his eyes off of me while he started to speak.

- Ryder...A human? You know very well what our pack thinks about humans and you want one to be their Luna? Look at her she is small and fragile; she looks like prey instead of a predator. Like a wolf dating a deer... - I hated the look he gave me. I wanted to say something in my defense but at some point he was right. I looked at myself as well and then at Ryder. I looked pathetic compared with him and his friend. What did I think when I agreed on this trip? Finally, Ryder spoke.

- Wilson show more respect she is your soon-to-be Luna. And she is perfectly capable of the post also she is my mate so take care of your words and how you stare at her - Ryder sounded angry but Wilson kept staring at my eyes. His friendly brown eyes now showed pity and it made me very uncomfortable in my own skin. I have never had problems with my body before, now in just 5 minutes, he managed to make me hate myself a little. I got frightened when Ryder screamed at Wilson.

- LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU! - his voice was filled with power and anger. His muscles next to me tensed and a vein in his neck started to grow, even I saw his canines coming out of his mouth. I looked at the love of my life with a sort of fear. I started to tremble and pulled myself out of Ryder's embrace. Eric noticed as well so he put a hand on Ryder's shoulder, and said something to him by his mind, which made Ryder glance at me and he immediately calmed down and his eyes showed regret. Wilson turned back to the wheel and we hit the road again. I wish I could hear them as well when they speak in their minds. The rest of the road passed in silence. Nice first impression Ariel... I felt Ryder's glance at me but I just couldn't look at him. I was thinking about how on Earth I will prove myself to his pack if I already failed.

Matthew

Both my father and Ryder were incredibly angry. I knew that Ariel's presentation to the pack won't be a walking gallop. But I never thought that the first member we will encounter with will be such a problem. I put a hand on my father's shoulder trying to calm him down and Eric did the same with Ryder. Ariel for the first time since we met her felt dread towards us and fear towards Ryder. He was just so occupied with my father that he didn't notice. I mind-linked at my father.

" -Dad calm down please you are scaring her!

- I don't give a f**k about her feelings! If she is afraid of us now what will she do if we have to fight to defend the pack!

- Dad, Ryder loves her. They are Mates for the sake of the Moon Goddess! He finally got prepared to become an Alpha thanks to her!

- He, fortunately, hasn't marked her yet so he can still reject this pathetic human being! - my father was looking at Ariel as if she was a piece of meat and even my wolf got angry because of the way my father treated her. I heard Ryder growl and he was prepared to fight with my father to protect Ariel."

Eric

When Beta Wilson asked about Ari's smell I already knew that I have to sit next to Ryder in the car to prevent any trouble and be able to stop him if he gets angry. To my misfortune, all my fears seemed to come true. Wilson went too far staring Ari the way he did... The poor girl was in serious trouble and we didn't even arrive at the packhouse. She just met the Beta and I knew that her soon-to-be-in-laws will be even more difficult to deal with. We were talking about his with Ryder the night before our flight at Ari's place when she was already asleep.

*Flashback*

- We are really happy that you finally forgot Scarlet and you found your Mate but you know that she won't have an easy job at home - Ryder was packing some of Ari's stuff in her suitcase and didn't look up at me. Matthew took my side.

- Ryder I hate to say this, but Eric has a point. You know your father hates humans.

- Yes I know this was one of the reasons I didn't want to get attached to her but I couldn't help it– he looked at the gallery’s direction where Ariel was sleeping tightly and Ryder smiled. - She is my mate. – He looked back at us and continued. - Also I know that she will be a perfect Luna and she will be able to prove herself to the pack - we shared a worried look with Matt and headed back to the hotel to get ready for today. But none of us was ready for this.

Ryder almost shifted in the car and jumped to Wilson's neck. That is when my wolf screamed in my head. - " STOP HIM, HE WILL HURT LUNA!"-  I immediately mind-linked Ryder.

" MAN STOP! Control yourself!

- I will rip him into pieces what is he thinking of himself staring at my love like this and talking to me in this tone?!

- Ryder you are making Ariel frightened! Look at her she is trembling! - Finally, he broke his stare at Wilson and I could tell Matt was talking with his father while I called Ryder's attention. He calmed down when he saw Ariel's eyes fill with fear and worry. He pulled her close again and said through mind-link to Wilson to keep driving. We could feel the tension in the car and Ariel was still afraid but none of us knew what was she thinking about.

Ryder

- LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU! - my wolf took control over me. All my muscles tensed and I felt that Ariel stopped to hold me.  My wolf wimped for a second when he felt the lack of our mate’s touch. My canines started to come out while I was snarling at Wilson. He made me even more furious when he kept staring at Ariel like he was going to eat her. Eric put his hand on me. I was seconds away to shift and crawl out Wilson's eyes! Eric mind-linked me.

 MAN STOP! Control yourself! -he sounded worried.

- I will rip him into pieces, what is he thinking of himself staring at my love like this and talking to me in this tone?! - anger was taking over me. I felt that my eyes were turning black and all the hair on my back stoop up.

- Ryder you are making Ariel frightened! Look at her she is trembling! -my wolf wimped and lost his focus on Wilson. We turned to the left and my black eyes met Ariel's emerald green eyes. She was trembling and the look in her eyes made my heart clench. She was scared of me, of us! I calmed down at that instant and pulled her softly closer to me. She stopped trembling but she was still alert and she was thinking hard. I would've loved to know what was going through her mind. I told Wilson to keep going home through mind-link and kept looking in silent at my angel,  who opposite of me avoided my glance and lost in her thoughts staring out of the window. - " We brought some extreme problems to our poor mate’s head.”- My wolf cried in sorrow. I knew he was right and I started to think that maybe I should've escaped with her and leave everything behind but it was too late to do that.
