PAGE SIX - New friends

Before we could even walk away from them to get to our class, they called us so we glance back and the bell rang just in time at that moment. Shoot! We’re going to be late!

“Wait! We want to thank you!” Kathy shouted while bowing at us and Draven did the same too on her side.

“Yes, thank you for making her talk to me,” Draven happily said, so I just shook my head.

“H-Hey, it’s alright no worries…talk about things first always okay?” I mumbled, so they smiled and just nodded as we waited for them to catch up on us.

“Where’s your next class?” Kathy asked while walking beside me. She really looks beautiful in her bright blue hair and pure hazelnut eyes.

“On the fields, we’re going to practice our combat skills and summoning the power of our mates,” after I said that, her eyes widened like she has heard a piece of very good news.

“Woah! That’s also where our next class is! We haven’t attended our first subject since you know…” she mumbled and I just nodded. I’m probably classmates with them if they haven’t been quarreling since earlier. Good thing too, they haven’t seen me being bullied by everyone.

“That’s great then let’s go together?” I invited them, so she just nodded while smiling happily at me.

Kathy and I talked a lot while we’re on our way towards the field grounds, it seems like I have gained new friends which are really new to my feelings. I secretly glanced at Ash and Draven on our back who were just both talking seriously with each other. I smiled…ever since he stepped into my life things started to change so nicely.

“You look so into him,” Kathy commented, which made me blush for a moment while shaking my hands to her.

“N-No...I’m not!” I said a bit embarrassed that she saw me looking at him, so she just laughed and cling into my arms.

“I’ve heard about him earlier this morning and I saw him being crowded up with girls and I think he’s looking for you other than entertaining them,” Kathy said, which made me look at her.

“H-He did?” I asked and here I thought he was busy admiring and talking to some beautiful girls around our campus.

“Yes! He did! You know I think you’re the most beautiful girl here on our campus!” she beamed, which made me shake my head.

“That’s silly talk Kathy,” I almost complained, which made her shook her head.

“I’m being serious! You really look gorgeous! To be honest, you’re the first-ever girl that has spoken to me and Draven was the first man who did so Ash was the second one,” she shared like she was a bit upset, so I listened to her.

“Really? Well, don’t worry we’re just the same, but I did have a friend before. She turned her back on me right after she had found her mate,” I said, so she just nodded like she understands what I did mean.

“I was being bullied before because of my hair and my abilities...so I remained sitting and walking in the quiet corners of our room or in everywhere I go until he talked to me,” she said and she’s talking about Draven. It looks like those two have a really nice story about how they have met.

“I’m sorry Nyx,” she added, which made my face scrunch up in confusion. Why is she saying sorry to me?

“U-Uh about what?” I asked a bit nervous about what she’s about to tell me.

“I think I saw you being bullied in our class before…we’re classmates, but I intend to sit on the very back where no one can notice me because I’m also one of their targets. I wanted to help you, but I’m too scared of what they might do to me so I’m really sorry,” she mumbled like she really felt guilty about not helping me, so I just shook my head and smiled. I thought she never did saw me being bullied.

“Hey it’s alright, I’m really glad that you didn’t butt in, who knows what hell they’ll do to you too if you ever did,” after I said that, I almost saw her eyes swell up in tears so I panicked for a bit.

“I know this is sudden, but is it okay if we become friends? Promise next time! I wouldn’t be afraid to defend you!” she asked like she’s scared about what she will hear from me next, so I just smiled. I can’t believe that I have my own friend now, this seems to be unreal.

“Y-Yeah sure and you don’t have to though, but I really appreciate it, Kathy,” I sincerely said and she smiled as we enter the field grounds on the east corner of the University. We immediately get change into our training uniforms and ran towards the grounds, some of the students were gathered from the center so we decided to stand at the very back with them.

We have four big fields from around the University…on the north side that’s where the biggest library is located, it contains the ancient and recent books that hold the past and legend stories of our world, on the west side that’s where the biggest maze and arena can be seen, that’s where usually the Dragon Games will be held, on the south side different courts were built for the students to practice or play their sports, on the east the biggest field grounds that’s where students can practice their combat, summoning and possessing skills with their dragon human mates.

I was practicing alone before and I would focus much more on my combat skills because I don’t have a mate yet to practice with but now, I’m a bit excited since I’m going to practice with Ash. Hopefully.

“Good afternoon class, now we’re going to train again about our combat skills, summoning and the possessing of your powers with our human dragon mates,” when a professor talked on the front it immediately caught our attention, so I brought out my notebook from my pockets to take down notes.

“Summoning and possessing is a very tricky part since you and your mate must have this very special bond so you can use their powers very well,” our professor added, so I just wrote it down.

“Why are you writing?” I flinched when I heard Ash’s voice from my side, so I glanced at him and he’s just looking at me intently.

“Notes…I also need to study this for the paper exams,” I mumbled, which made him smile like he found me very amusing.

“You look sexy in your outfit by the way waaa! I think I’m going to die!” Ash commented while staring at my body, our training uniforms were black tights and white fitted long sleeves on the top, there’s a brown leather belt attached to it in the center to keep our shirt intact.

I blushed and was about to hit him with my knuckles when the professor talked again.

“Mortals and Warriors please proceed on the right side we will practice your combat skills first, if we did not finish this for today let's continue it tomorrow,” after our professor said that, Kathy and I left Ash and Draven on the left side.

“I’m nervous Nyx, I’m not actually talented to combat skills yet,” I heard Kathy whispered on my side.

“Me too, but don’t worry you’ll manage to do it well if you keep on practicing,” I said trying to cheer her up, so she just smiled.

“Human dragons, please observe your mates properly for you to teach them where they lack, after that practice how you can pass your powers to your own mates, and to those who don’t have mates yet just observe and I’ll let you practice on your own later after I tell everyone what they must need to do, is that understood?” the professor said, so we all just nodded.

“To your positions, Mortals and Warriors!” our professor ordered, we fall in line just so we could take our own turns. We’re in the middle of the line but I think we would be able to demonstrate our own skills sooner or later.

“I-I’m nervous Nyx huhu!” Kathy cried, so I just patted her back. After the student right in front of her, she’s next.

“Just do your best and if you did fail you can try again and again, I’ll teach you too,” I said, so she just smiled before hugging me.

“Katherine Tales, front and center!” the professor called while throwing her own weapon for her to catch it, on our training, there’s a default sword that we're always going to use.

Our human dragon mates are the ones who are giving us our own weapon after we both successfully connected our bonds and I might be able to summon his powers most especially the special sword.

Our training was all about dodging and maintaining our stand using different kinds of elements that a human dragon can summon, for today we’re going to train with fire. On the far corner just before our line, there’s a tall sturdy post that contains magic cannon in the middle that can summon different kinds of elements that human dragons can summon. It’s created by our ancestors to where we can practice our combat skills safely because those elements won’t hurt you. After all, it’s not real.

Kathy positioned herself at the center and I can see from afar that she’s trembling so badly on the way she holds her sword. It almost looks like she’s about to hyperventilate. I was about to call her so I can pull her back from reality when some deep serious voice shouted for her.

“Kath! I believe in you! You can do this!” I heard Draven shouted from somewhere, which made some of the students look at him. I smiled, these two are so sweet he must’ve seen how nervous Kathy was.

Kathy flinched for a moment and a goofy grin was starting to form on her lips, she gripped her sword tightly and positioned herself again. The cannon post started firing balls of fire and went towards the position of Kathy, she managed to dodge two by moving flawlessly and s***h one with her sword.

“Good job Katherine, more foot works for you so you’ll improve more,” our professor commented, which made her cheer while looking at me so I gave her a thumbs up.

“Hailey Nyx Jaden, front and center!” I have caught the sword that was thrown on me and positioned myself in the center, I looked at the post and focused my attention over there. I was only waiting for the cannon to fire when I was startled by Ash’s voice.

“Go Nyx! Go Nyx! You’re so pretty!” someone laughed because of his childish cheering for me, which made me grip my default sword even more tightly. I can feel that I was slightly blushing because of embarrassment. The nerve of that guy!

I sighed and immediately the cannon fired some fireballs in my direction. I ran towards the first fireball with steady speed and slashed it evenly with my sword, the cannon fired the second one with intense speed so I dodged it while backflipping on the other side, leaving the fireball disappearing on the ground, the third one was immediately fired so I jump and spun around before slashing the fireball with my sword. I landed with my two feet and looked at my surroundings, some were looking at me like they were enthralled.

My training alone in our backyard has been paid off!

“Fantastic performance—!”  our professor was cut off when we heard the cannon fired again, my eyes widened when it went towards my direction with massive speed, it supposed to be only three balls why is it firing another one?

“Professor! Stop it, please! Nyx get out of there! It’s a real fireball!” I heard Kathy shouted worriedly which made me flinch, my sword wouldn’t stand a chance in that fire! I tried to run away from it, but the fireball is changing its direction to where I was running in too! What the hell?!

I shook my head and positioned myself it’s too late to escape this! Someone might get hurt!

The fireball grew wider which made me stop, it’s so hot! My default sword melted even though it’s not that near yet. I closed my eyes and crossed my hands. I was waiting to feel the burn that I was going to feel when it touched my body, but it didn’t happen.

I opened my eyes only to see a familiar tall broad back right in front of me dodging the fireball using his bare hands.

“A-Ash,” I called, so he looked at me and I was shocked to see that his silver eyes were glowing intensely.
