Chapter 4

Upon hearing Charles' hysterical shout, Sam rushed to the bedside in an instant. Using his "medical eye", he knows that something must be wrong upon looking at the woman infront of his bestfriend. Her eyes are blank. They are expressionless. The woman seems clueless of what is going on with her. Slowly, he approached her, "My name is Doctor Sam. I am here to help you. Can you tell me your name?" The woman stared at him blankly. "Where do you live? Can you tell me what happened to you? Can you tell me what the year is now? Please tell me your age. Do you recall the name of your parents?" Sam received a negative answer to all of these questions. Ah, this woman seems to have forgotten who she is and everything about her life. Then the woman shifted her eyes to Charles. Still, she seems to be at lost. Suddenly, her expression changed. She seems to be scared upon realizing that she doesn't know who she is and has no idea about her life. When she is about to cry, Charles spoke, "You are Eleanor, my loving wife. You hit your head in a car accident and lost your memories." Shocked, Sam turned his head to look at Charles. It was only then that he saw Charles' warning gaze to him. Sam frowned but restrained himself to say more. "Doctor Sam, you may now leave the room. We'll call you when we need you," Charles added. Sam stared at him. Charles motioned him to leave. Silently, Sam nodded and left the room but before he could get out of the door, he heard Charles say, "Doctor, tell the butler to bring some food for my wife. He and the maids should have arrived by now. Also, advice them what kind of food they need to prepare for her health." Sam softly answered, "Sure." When Sam left the room, Charles slowly approached Eleanor and wrapped her in his arms. He slowly planted a kiss on her forehead. To assure her that everything is alright, he faced her. Holding her chin with his fingers, he slowly lifted her head up and looked at her eyes. "Darling, you may have lost your memory but not your husband. I am Charles, the love of your life." He slowly kissed her on the lips. The kiss lasted for a while. A few minutes passed when Charles felt Eleanor responding to his kiss. His heart almost skipped a beat. Holy cow! He never realized that he could feel happy like this ever again. For the past seven years of his life, he has never been as happy as this. Charles' hands tightened his embrace on his wife. It was not long when he felt her hands on his back, reciprocating his tight embrace. Both of them remained in this posture for almost an hour as if they are scared to let each other go. Deep inside, Charles wished that they remain like this forever. Deep inside, he uttered a simple prayer, "Good Lord, thank you. I hope this is the start of something new!"
