I packed up some clothes and closed my suitcase up. Then I handed it off to my servant.
“Take it out to the horses.” I told him.
As he was leaving, Caroline walked inside. She glanced at me for a second, then shook her head.
“So, you leave without a word to me?” She asked. “Has our marriage fallen so short?”
“My marriage to you, in my eyes, is null and void. I don’t have to tell you anything. Just know I won’t be back for a week.”
“A week?!”
She moved closer to me and I sighed, already agitated with her presence.
“You seem so annoyed with me. When we first married, you loved being in my presence.”
“Now, as you can see, I don’t.”
“And yet, we still share a bed.”
“Something that will stop once I get back from my trip. You’re the reason I’m getting away from Kaenid Kingdom. I need space.”
She smacked her lips at me and walked away. I walked towards the door and was blocked in, immediately, by her foolishness. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
“Kiss me, love.” She begged.
“For what? I have to go.”
She wrapped her arms around me and our lips clashed into each other. I snatched away and she just stared at me.
“Our love is truly gone, is it?” She asked me. “Your kiss wasn’t the kiss of a husband, at all.”
I moved closer to her and she backed up, making room for me to leave the room. Then, I turned and walked down the hall. I could feel her eyes burning a hole in the back of my head and she watched me off. Edward stood by the entrance door and when he saw me, a smirk formed on his face.
“Said goodbye to the wife?” He asked me.
I ignored him and walked out the castle. As I got to my horse, I checked to see if some of my men were prepared to travel. I decided to bring at least ten of my men with me. One of my men, Scott, came over to me and bowed.
“I think you should ride in the chariot, your Highness.” He said to me.
“I want to ride my horse.” I told him. “I’ll be fine.”
“Well, we decided to bring the chariot, just in case you get fatigue from the ride. If you don’t mind?”
“Not at all.”
“He’ll need it. We’re riding nonstop to… Where exact?”
“Three locations and the first is Gerinburg. My good friend, Nigel, stays there. I need to see if he’s well.”
“Your right hand?”
“Yes.”
“Hm.”
I glanced at Edward, who hopped on his horse in silence. I chuckled as I gotten on mines as well.
“No need to be jealous, my dear friend. You’re a good friend to me.”
“I hope so. Remember who left and who stayed.”
“I could never forget.”
I glanced behind me and saw everybody was prepared to leave. I clicked my tongue at my horse and rode off first with Edward and the others right behind me.
**
As the night grew, I was thankful that the chariot was with us. Fatigue hit me like ton of bricks and I was just riding. I tried to keep myself up, but my eyelids kept dropping not a second more. They felt like heavy sandbags were tied to them. I released one of my hands of the horse’s rein and grabbed a fistful of my golden brown hair. The horses came to a halt and I glanced around. Edward and my men all stared at me.
“Get in the chariot.” Edward told me. “You’re exhausted.”
“I can ride.” I told him, yawning.
“You can’t and I won’t let you. Now go.”
I nodded and hopped off my horse. I slowly walked to the chariot and one of my men opened the door for me. I thanked them before I got into the chariot and took a seat. Once the door was slammed shut, the horses rode off into the night. I opened the window and rested my head on the side, staring up into the starry sky. Then, my eyelids drifted shut again. I was now in a world of dreams.
**
A King never over sleeps… Wake up…..
My Dragon, Aiden, was persistent. Even he was excited to get away from the Kaenid Kingdom. I opened my eyes and I turned my head to the left after hearing a light snore from the other side. Edward was resting as well. The horses had come to a complete stop and a knock came on the door. One of the soldiers opened it and glanced inside.
“There’s a stream and a place for us to feed, your Highness.” He said to me. “Would you like to wash up before we continue our trip to Gerinburg?”
“Thank you, Dawson.” I said to him. “I will definitely take up that offer.”
The soldier bowed, then left, leaving the door open. I patted Edward on the leg and he woke up, quickly.
“Let’s wash up before we continue ahead.” I told him before I moved over to the door.
“Sounds tempting.” He said.
I got out the chariot first, then he got out after me. Scanning our area, I could hear the stream a mile away from us.
“Stay on guard.” I told my men.
Edward and I walked off and we head over to the stream. I removed my shoes and clothes, then walked over to the water. Before I got in, I scooped up a handful of the crystal clear water into my hands and drank from it. It was cold and refreshing.
“Drink before we get in.” I told him.
He kneeled beside me and drank from it as well.
“Gosh, the water is delicious here.” Edward said. “I know Gerinburg is known for their wonderful fruits and vegetables.”
“I heard that as well. Alright, I’m going in.”
I got up and stepped into the water, heading over to the deeper area. We washed ourselves up, giving us and our dragons a good wake up bath. Aiden was wide awake, but a little wash up wouldn’t hurt.
I splashed water into my face and gasped from the coldness.
“Your Highness, we should get back on the road in a few.”
I turned to my soldier and nodded. I turned to Edward who was already getting out of the stream.
“Already, Edward?” I asked him.
“Yeah, this water is too cold for me and my dragon alone.”
“Ha, I’m waking mines up.”
“Well, you go ahead and do that. We still have four hours to go until we get to Gerinburg.”
“I know… I know. Fine, I’m coming.”
Sighing, I got out of the cold water and I grabbed my clothes, heading towards the bushes.
“Where are you going?” Edward asked me.
“To take a leak.” I told him.
I rushed to the bushes and used the bathroom. Once I finished, I threw my clothes on and I headed back to the chariot. I saw my horse and walked over to it.
“She’s been fed, your Highness.” My soldier said.
“Thank you.” I said.
I hopped on my horse, ready to go.
“When we get to Gerinburg, you men can rest, eat and… Fuck.” I told them.
We all laughed and prepared ourselves to take leave. Once we were ready, Edward and I rode off first. I could see Gerinburg far away. The closer we rode, the closer the big town got. I was excited to get there and to reunite with my friend. Edward rode next to me.
“So, are you going to bring your friend back with you?” He asked me.
“No.” I told him. “My friend will stay here with his family.”
“Do you know if he has children?”
“No, it’s been too long.”
“I understand.”
The ride became quiet. We rode with my men until the gates of Gerinburg became clear. We stopped by the gate and there was a couple men that rushed to us.
“King Draco, is it?” One of the guys asked me.
“Yes, that’s me.” I confirmed.
He nodded and rushed back to the gate where his friend was. They opened it up and we rode through. Men, women and children lined up on both sides, bowing their heads as my men and I entered the town. I glanced around, looking at everybody around me. Women gossiped as I rode by, children giggled and waved. I waved back and turned my attention back to the front of me. I got off the horse and looked around. Of course, the baron and the baroness were in the front, waiting for us.
Edward and I got down off our horses and we headed over to the couple.
“I remember when you were just appointed King.” Baron said. “It’s good to see you again in the mature age, King Draco.”
“Same to you, Baron.” I said, then I turned to you. “You know how to pick them.”
“Ha, I learned from your father. This wife, Cassandra.”
Cassandra extended her to me and I took it, kissing the back of it, gently.
“She’s a rare jewel.” I told the Baron, releasing the Baroness’s hand, then looking around. “This is a beautiful town. So… Quiet.”
“We try to keep it like that.”
“Good man.”
“So, I take it you’re not here for small talk. What can I help you with?”
“I actually am here for that. I am taking a vacation from the Kaenid Kingdom. I want to enjoy myself without thinking about work.”
“Finally! How long will you stay?”
“At least three days.”
“We have a guest house for you and your man to stay until then. Would you like to be shown to it?”
“Actually, I wanted to explore the town. I had a friend that I wanted to see as well.”
“Then, you enjoy yourself. Hopefully, you will enjoy the light festival this evening.”
“The light festival?”
“Yes.” The Baroness spoke. “It’s where people light lanterns in the sky, listening to beautiful music, eating wonderful food, the company of the people and many more.”
I nodded my head and looked around.
“I will definitely enjoy that.” I told them.
“Well, go ahead and head out.” Baron said. “I’m sure your men will handle the rest.”
“Definitely.” I turned to Edward and nodded my head at him.
I walked off, trying to figure out how to find Nigel’s house. As I passed the crowded streets, a young man with a golden brown complexion and black, curly hair approached me.
“Your Highness.” He said to me.
“Hello.” I said. “How are you?”
“I’m well.”
“Well, if you’ll excuse me, I must take my leave.”
“I’m sorry, I should’ve introduced myself a little bit better.”
I stopped and turned back to him.
“My name’s Lucis. I am Nigel’s first born child.”
I stared at him and he was right. He resembled Nigel, completely.
“Your father, is he… Around?” I asked.
“He is. He got your letter, so my mom and sister are preparing a feast for you while father is finishing up with the things around the house.”
“Your sister?”
“Yes, Talyah. You’ll meet her. Shall I take you to the house?”
I nodded and he walked ahead of me, leading me to his house.
