Mr. Lowell observed Nathaniel and watched out for any change of expression on his face.
Nathaniel knew that Mr. Lowell found out about the artifact that he stole from the crypt. He made sure that he didn't show any suspicious emotions on his face and movements as he answered.
"What do you mean, sir?"
Nathaniel had already thought of the situations and consequences if he ever answered differently.
If Nathaniel had said that he had something with him other than the dagger, then there is a possibility that they would take it away from him, well, if one was to think about it the broken piece of the black token was originally theirs but for some unknown reason Nathaniel doesn't want to give the artifact to them even though he doesn't know what it does or if it would harm him in some way.
'Well, nothing bad has happened ever since I stole it so I think it's safe,' Nathaniel thought.
And another situation was that if he told them that he had nothing other than the dagger, then there was a possibility that they would go to his apartment and ransack the whole place or maybe just secretly steal it.
'That should never happen. Mom's in the apartment,' Nathaniel thought once more.
Mr. Lowell stared at Nathaniel for a few seconds. In those few seconds there was nothing but silence reigning over them until Mr. Lowell broke it.
"It is nothing. Forget what I just asked."
Mr. Lowell turned his back to Nathaniel and started to walk away but stopped after taking six steps.
"Be prepared, we will depart shortly. And careful not to die."
Nathaniel's eyes widened slightly as he watched the back of the man who suddenly felt like someone who genuinely cared for him. He closed his eyes and sighed a little with a small smile on his face.
"I will. I still want to see my mom after all."
Nathaniel whispered and walked to his seniors. His team captain, Ark, walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"This is your first mission. It would be better to stay at the rear and observe how we handle things since you are still inexperienced."
Ark gave Nathaniel some advice. His tone was light but his expression was solemn.
"I'll observe things first. I won't charge without knowing anything. Don't worry about me and do your job. I can handle myself. You can't fight to your full potential when you are worrying about something."
Nathaniel said before walking in front. Mr. Lowell has already called them and ordered them to board a black van that would take them to the port where the boat they were supposed to ride to the island was.
The ride to the island seemed to have been so short but it actually took them two hours before the boat they were at arrived at the port on the island.
Nathaniel and the others walked to the site where the monitoring crew were staying. However, on their way, Nathaniel was confused as to why there were still civilians on the island when the government already knew that there was a monster on the loose.
Nathaniel slowly approached Mr. Lowell and asked him what was bothering him since they arrived.
"Why are there still civilians on the island? Shouldn't they have evacuated by now?"
"The government hasn't announced any news of the monster. They still haven't revealed the secrets of the crypt. And it seems like they are confident that nothing would go wrong."
Mr. Lowell had a smirk on his face that was indicating how stupid the government was for taking such nonsense and idiotic decision without even knowing anything.
"Shouldn't they just make a reason to evacuate them? Isn't not telling the civilians about the situation they are in and letting them stay uninformed is like jeopardizing them?"
Nathaniel's reaction and thoughts were the same as Mr. Lowell's.
"Hah, we're not politicians and we don't think like them. Anyway, enough of that thought. This is the added information we found out last night."
Mr. Lowell sighed. He handed a tablet to Nathaniel.
Nathaniel took it and read the contents. There wasn't much information that has been added to what they have already gathered but it was still of help for Nathaniel.
He returned the tablet to Mr. Lowell after skimming through it. The sun was already rising when they arrived at the tent where the officials incharge of the raid were stationed.
They spoke to Mr. Lowell for a couple of minutes before finally commencing the strategy they had planned out from the beginning.
Nathaniel could feel the air tensing up after they were appointed to their respective locations. The atmosphere became gloomy even with the warm sun greeting them. It was the same for Nathaniel. In fact, he was the most nervous one of them. It made sense because this mission was his first.
Just like what Mr. Lowell told him yesterday. They were really disguised as special forces and because of it they were treated differently among the soldiers participating in the mission.
"Based on the data that the scouting team had gathered on the past few days, we have narrowed down the possible locations of the monster and the crypt's. We have three locations, the first one was the highway to the south, the second was the underground train station in the north and the last was the park 5 kilometers from the center of the city.”
One of the officials incharge informed the men. Nathaniel’s brows raised after hearing the possible locations that the government has found. He was confused.
‘Those were not the same results as what I got yesterday from that hightech table.’ Nathaniel thought.
He was able to know the possible locations of the monster’s escape route but not the possible locations of where the crypt and the monster exactly was. However, the locations that the official had just mentioned, none of the three were the same as the locations he found out.
Mr. Lowell was standing beside the official. Unlike the man who was speaking beside him, his gaze and attention were only focused on Nathaniel and because of that he was able to see the frown that had appeared on his face.
‘What is he thinking? Did he found out something? Or did he have the black token with him after all? Was it reacting to something?’
Mr. Lowell’s mind was bombarded with questions with Nathaniel’s simple change of expression. It was fine for him not to listen to the official’s announcement because there were no single words that the official was saying that he didn't know, he was only pretending to listen because it would be rude not to.
Nathaniel seemed to have felt that someone was looking at him. He looked around and met Mr. Lowell’s gaze. Mr. Lowell gestured something to Nathaniel, which he understood immediately.
Right after the official finished explaining things did Mr. Lowell jumped from the podium and rushed over to Nathaniel.
“What’s wrong?” Mr. Lowell abruptly asked.
Nathaniel knew that he shouldn’t keep what he knew to himself, not when there are people’s lives at stake. He looked around before facing Mr. Lowell.
“I thinkwe should find someprivate place to discuss this matter, sir.” Nathaniel whispered.
Mr. Lowell immediately realized that what nathaniel was boutto disclosewas notsomething that coud be taken lightly.
