Ezio:
“I want no mistakes tonight. Sergio is going to be paying for what he did, but we are going to need to be careful with every word that we say. He knows how to play with them, and I don’t want to give him an advantage, no matter how small it is.” I said, looking at Marcel who nodded as the two of us walked out of the car.
“Don’t worry, the men already have the place surrounded. We are going to make him believe that we are open for the deal before we make our move when he leaves.” Marcel said, and I nodded.
“Good, the man is going to know what it is to play us. Only this time, we are going to be sure that those who try to oppose us as he did know not to dare.” I said, and Marcel nodded. “We are going to the office after this. We have a lot to take care of, Sergio is just going to be a reminder, then when we hold the council meeting, they are going to understand what it is to mess with the Capo dei Capi.”
“Most of them try to play their game. They often fail, but that doesn’t mean that we should let it bother us.” Marcel said, and I nodded. The two of us got down from the car, and I couldn’t help the frown that formed on my lips as her scent hit my nostrils, making my stomach churn as I felt the bond, OUR bond being stronger than it was despite the rejection.
My wolf was already alert, and judging by Marcel’s stance, I could tell that even he understood what was bothering me. She was here.
His eyes met mine and I shook my head as I knew that tonight was not going to go as smooth as we wanted it to. The number of things that I was going to have to do were already countless, this being added to the list was not something that I wanted.
We walked inside the restaurant. It was mostly empty considering the fact that they knew not to take orders after a certain hour. I wanted the restaurant to be empty by the time we started the real meeting. I wasn’t that selfish, the bastard wasn’t going to die on an empty stomach.
I could hear her voice as she spoke, requesting for things to be done in a certain way. Her heart raced, and I knew that her wolf who was already aware of my presence. One thing that she didn’t take into account was the mating bond, despite it being broken, was the fact that our wolves were closer to one another than they were to others.
“I thought that you said you looked everywhere,” I said, my eyes hardening as I looked at Marcel whose eyes dropped to the ground as I caught sight of her. She looked up at me, and I could hear her heart racing as she shook her head, wanting to take a step back.
My heart raced, and for a moment, I had to fight back walking toward her, wanting to wrap my arms around her. I was angry with her, but the fact that she was alive and safe was something that I was thankful for.
“We did, boss.” He said, and I took a deep breath as I kept my eyes on the window that connected the cashier to the kitchen. She looked down at the cashier for a moment, but she was quick to take a step back, clearly wanting to be anywhere but here, knowing that I saw her.
I walked inside the restaurant toward her, and she looked away from me. I wrapped my hand around her wrist, stopping her before she walked inside the kitchen, knowing that she could easily just get out of the restaurant through the back door.
“What the hell are you doing?” I asked, glaring daggers at her.
“Let me go, Ezio.” She said, wanting to pull her hand away from me. But that wasn’t the one thing that bothered me, it was the bond that I felt, one that had my wolf wanting to whimper as he wanted me to let her go. I knew that I had to control myself considering the presence of humans.
“You’re with child.” I said, and she took a deep breath.
“Please, allow me to leave. I have work to do, and…”
“Aurora?” Alessio said from behind me. Her eyes widened in surprise at the call of her father, and I looked away from her, not saying a word as I heard the man approaching. He stood beside me, facing her, and she looked down at her feet, avoiding his eyes as she closed her own.
“Dad…”
“Dad?” He asked, shaking his head in question. “You didn’t even leave meaning to the damn word.”
“What is going on here?” Andrea asked, glaring at Aurora. Her heart raced against her chest, and I watched as she took a step back, entering the kitchen as to avoid being in the situation that she was in. Andrea looked at me, and I scoffed, rolling my eyes before looking over my shoulder at Kristoff. The man nodded and followed her, knowing that I was going to be busy.
“I expect to hear that my table is ready?” I asked, turning my attention to the woman as I ignored the clench that I felt in my chest, knowing that the child that the woman was carrying was my own.
And the fact that I rejected her was not one that I liked. It pained me, and the more I thought of it, the more it made me hate the way things turned out when we were younger. I just wished that things were different.
“Yes, sir, it is ready.” Andrea said, changing her demeanor to one that was now professional, knowing not to lose the one costumer that rented her whole place. “Please, right this way...”
