Ghosh mansion is decorated with flowers, balloons and lights. Every one is running here and there.
They don't have time to breath in peace. Everything should be perfect other wise They have to face the wrath of Ratri.
And why not? Because today is Soumyajit's 15th birthday.
Ratri is busy making Payesh, (a sweet dish made with rice and milk it's Called kheer in Hindi as well) and Soumyajit's favourite dishes.
A little girl is watching her with curiosity. She hasn't came in front of her. She is looking at her from a corner.
The girls eyes has admiration, love and innocence.
"Mahi tumi akhane ki korcho?
(Mahi what are you doing here?) " Mili asked her in a whisper
She don't want Ratri to know about Mahi's presence.
"Mamoni ke dekhchi. Mamoni dadabhai er jonyo Payesh banache. (I'm watching mom she is making Payesh for Dadabhai)" 7 year old Mahi said with a smile
"Mahi cholo amar sathe, (Mahi come with me,)" Mili said and drag her
She take her to Mahi's room and make her sit down on the bed.
"Mahi you know that you can't go there right? Then why did you go there? Ratri mam have scolded me if she saw you there." Mili said
"i didn't do anything Moni. I was only watching Mamoni. I know she don't want me in the kitchen but I can't help it. She don't stay in home and when ever she stay she ask me to not disturb her." Mahi said sadly
(Moni is an endearment used by Mahi to address Mili)
Mili felt bad for the poor girl.
"Moni why don't Mamoni make Payesh for me on my birthday? I love Payesh like dadabhai." Mahi asked Mili
"why mahi don't you like the Payesh I made for you? Is it bad?" Mili asked with a fake sad face
"no no I love it. You make very good Payesh." Mahi said hurriedly not wanting to hurt her Moni
When she has started to understand everything she has noticed one thing that her Mamoni and Baba love her dadabhai but not her.
Her baba always scold her and Mamoni ignore her. She neither talk to her or anything and she don't like to see her face that's why she has asked mahi to not come in front of her.
"Mahi your dadabhai love you and so your Moni isn't enough for you?" Mili asked her
"it is I'm happy with It but you know Moni my all friends Mamoni and Baba come to take them back from school. Their Mamoni make tiffin for them. Come in programs but mine don't come," Mahi said
"you know what your Mamoni only know how to make bitter gourd that you hate very much do you want it?" Mili asked her
"If Mamoni made I will eat that as well but she don't make it na." Mahi said with a pout
"ok ok now you go and play in the garden but remember don't come in front of your baba or Mamoni ok?" Mili said to divert her mind
"yes OK I won't bye Moni. And please call me when Dadabhai will come back from his football practice," Mahi said and go outside to play
She was playing along with the puppy she have. Soumyajit bought it for her on her birthday.
"Milo don't run fast," Mahi screamed at the puppy
But like he will listen. He ran where ever he want.
Mahi was also running behind him.
Suddenly Mahi bumped with someone. She fell down on the ground and got a cut on her right knee.
"what the hell can't you see? Bloddy b***h," Mainak said In an angry voice
"sorry baba I didn't saw you. I was playing with milo." Mahi said sobbing because her knee is hurting
"What happen Mainak why are you screaming?" Ratri asked him coming from inside hearing noices
She don't want to create any scene on her son's birthday.
"this bloody b***h bumped with me and ruined the birthday cake. I need to bring another one. This cake was specially made but this b***h has to ruin it." Mainak said
"what? Mahi didn't I told you to stay away from us? Then why don't you listen to me? Your dadabhai love you so much and here you ruined his cake. You should be punished and your punishment is you won't come out at the party. And dare you if you said anything to your dadabhai. I will say something ro him"Ratri said and Drag mahi towards her room
Mahi didn't said anything because she knew it is her fault. She should have been more careful. And she is happy at least her mamoni talk to her
Ratri pushed her inside and locked her.
" mili can't you take care of a child? If you're incapable of doing it then tell me I will find some one else to do this job. " Ratri asked in anger
" mam she was playing in garden I told her to play quietly, I'm sorry mam It won't happen next time. Where is she mam? Its time for her lunch. "Mili asked her whereabouts
" she won't get lunch today and I have locked her in her room. She ruined my shona's birthday cake and she won't come outside today at the party as well. Give her dinner once the party is finished. "Ratri said and left
" it's all my fault I shouldn't have send her outside. "Mili thought
On the other side Soumyajit came back from his football practise.
" Shona you're back? "Ratri asked with a smile
" ma where is mahi? I bought a new dress for her. She will wear it tonight, "Soumyajit said ignoring his mother
Ratri didn't liked it but she can't say anything her son love mahi more then anything.
" Shona she is In her room and I had punished her. She did some mistake and she won't join us tonight. You leave it and come with me. I have arrange everything for you," Ratri said
" what? Why the hell you punished her? And she won't be in my birthday? If she won't come then I won't come out as well. Celebrate my birthday without me. "Soumyajit said angrily and ran towards Mahi's room that is his room's adjacent one..
" Mili auntie open the door, "Soumyajit said to Mili when he saw its locked
" but Ratri mam asked me to not, "Mili said fearfully
" do what I say auntie, "Soumyajit said sternly
" ok, "Mili said and open the door
Soumyajit saw mahi is sitting on the floor and crying.
" Mahi why are you crying? And why are you sitting on the floor? "Soumyajit asked her
She wipe her eyes and smiled.
" Dadabhai I fell while playing that's why I'm crying. I got hurt on my knee, "She said pointing towards her knee
" what? Didn't you told ma about it? How can she ignore it? And what mili auntie was doing? "Soumyajit asked in anger
" Dadabhai calm down they don't know about it. I didn't told them. And you don't worry it is small cut, "Mahi said trying to calm her brother
She knows he will make a big scene on it like he do always. She didn't told him about what Her mamoni or baba do with her. She knows they love her dadabhai and she don't want to create any drama for a 7 year old she is really mature
"shut up and let me clean it," Soumyajit said as he brought the first aid kit
He very carefully clean her cut and put a band aid on It.
"mahi I have bought a dress for you. It will look good on you." Soumyajit said and showed her the dress
Its a white colour off shoulder high low half sleeves dress.
"it's so beautiful thank you dadabhai," mahi said hugging him
"not more than you my baby sis. I love you so much for you I can do anything." Soumyajit said and kissed her forehead
"but dadabhai mamoni punished me for ruining your birthday cake. I can't go outside tonight." Mahi said sadly
"in my birthday party my little sis won't be there is it even possible? If you didn't come then I won't go either don't worry about it I know how to make ma Agree. And you know today Aditya is coming with his family and your friend Minerva is also coming So be happy sis. "Soumyajit said and Mahi smiled hearing it.
