Alpha Sebastian’s POV
“Who has the pepperoni?” Rosalie asks, standing up to examine the open pizza boxes that litter the dining room table.
“We are all out.” Dan answers, stuffing the last piece in his mouth greedily.
“So gentlemanly!!” Rosalie scoffs, pushing his shoulder playfully.
“Hey I need my strength, I’m on patrol tonight!” he responds defensively.
Rosalie groans before examining the left overs.
“Yuck who ordered the pineapple pizza?”
“That would be Aiden.” Natalia says shaking her head.
“Gross.” Rosalie laughs as Aiden holds his hands up in surrender.
“Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.”
“You know it’s not the pizza I would say suits you…” Dan says thoughtfully.
“What’s that suppose to mean?” Aiden asks in confusion.
“I don’t know like you’re a serious dude… your more like a no nonsense margarita type of guy.” he answers seriously.
The table laughs out loud as they take in Dan’s assessment.
“He’s got a point.” I say lifting my beer to my lips.
I turn my head to the side to see my mate listening to the conversation before covering her mouth to yawn.
“You know guys why don’t we call it a night. I’m sure everyone is wiped out.” I say firmly.
Everyone hastily agrees and Dan and Aiden begin to pack up the empty boxes.
“Hey why don’t I show you to your room?” I offer her carefully.
“Uhh yeah.” she answers as we step away from the table and head out into the main lobby of the house.
I watch her intently as her eyes scan over the whole place slowly.
We move silently down the corridor before stopping at the guest room just down the hall from mine.
“I’m just in the end room by the way… if you need me.” I say before opening the door to her room.
She steps inside and looks around.
“It’s beautiful.” she says quietly, walking towards the window that looks down to the forest below.
“I’m glad you like it.” I answer, relieved that she is happy with her new space. “I’ve had your new belongings put into the closet for you and the bathroom already has all the toiletries you might need.”
“Thank you.” she answers shyly.
“Well Uhh, I guess I’ll let you get some rest. Remember to call on me if you need me. Honestly anything at all…”
She chuckles slightly and nods.
“I will.”
“Okay then.” I grin walking backwards towards the door. “Well I’ll see you tomorrow.”
***
I lie awake in bed and stare up at the ceiling.
I can’t sleep.
Despite all the hours I’ve missed over the past few days, I can’t seem to settle my mind.
Nerves plague me about tomorrow and what it will bring.
It seems as though she is beginning to open up but her memory is still firmly locked shut. Her story is still a complete mystery.
Will this specialist be able to get to the root of the problem?
For my mates sake I hope that she will… but selfishly I can’t deny that the idea also worries me somewhat.
She had a life before me, of course she did… a mate too.
What will happen when she remembers him? What happened between them both?
I’ve never been the jealous type but yet here I am. Jealous of a dead man. Damn that’s f*****g pathetic.
Suddenly I hear creaking sound coming from the corridor outside the bedroom.
I glance over at the alarm clock to see that it’s 2am.
I carefully get up and pull a T-shirt over my head, walking to the bedroom door and opening it quietly.
The sound of footsteps hits my ears and I can’t help but follow the sound. Somehow I know that it’s her.
I walk down the corridor and down the staircase. Following the noise which is now coming from the room at the end of the hall. The sound of random piano keys are vibrating in the air.
I smile as I approach and slowly open the door with my outstretched hand. The creaking sound of the hinges instantly giving me away.
I see my mate sitting on a little stool in front of the piano, poking at the keys. She jumps back in fright before she realises that it is me.
“I’m so sorry… I Uhh-“
“No. You don’t have to apologise.”
She smiles carefully and her shoulders visibly relax.
“Take it you couldn’t sleep?”
She shakes her head.
“Nah me either.” I say walking into the room, with my hands in my pockets.
“I’m really sorry to snoop around… it’s just I saw this room on the tour earlier and I just thought it was beautiful.”
“Like I said… you are welcome to go anywhere in the house.” I state truthfully. “But yeah it is a beautiful room. My mom used to use this room for painting, years ago when I was little. She also kept her instruments here… it was far away from my father office so not to irritate him.” I shrug.
“Oh… he didn’t like music?”
“Well he didn’t appreciate the same things my mom did. They loved each other but they were very different. He was really rough around the edges, whereas my mom was sophisticated and intellectual.” I say thoughtfully.
“Sounds like a curious match.” she replies with a smile.
“I guess it was but it worked for them.” I shrug, walking over to her side by the piano.
I lean down to play a couple of keys gently.
Her head swings up to look at me quickly.
“You know how to play this?”
I nod carefully and shrug.
“Yes but it’s been I while.” I grin.
She grins in return before standing up to take a walk around the room where she examines the paintings hanging on the walls closely.
“Did your mom paint any of these?”
I follow behind her as we stop at a particular painting that hangs over the fireplace.
“She did… this was one of her favourites actually.”
I look at the piece of art and am transported to the moment when it was created.
Bee and I were messing around in the lake. She was just little and I was teaching her how to swim. Aiden was off to the side with my father who was teaching him some sort of combat move as usual.
I remember being happy. We were together. We were a family.
She tilts her head to the side as she continues to look over the bright colors.
“It’s like summer.”
“It was.” I reply thoughtfully.
“I think summer is my favourite season.” she adds carefully.
“It’s mine too actually.” I chuckle in response, turning to look at her.
She smiles as her eyes meet mine.
“I have an idea… but if you hate it, don’t worry. You don’t have to do it.”
“What is it?” she asks, furrowing her brows.
“Well since we don’t know your name… how about you choose something?” I shrug.
“Like a nickname?” she asks curiously.
“I guess so.” I reply, stuffing my hands back into my pockets.
She nods carefully and looks back towards the picture.
“How about Summer?” she asks gently.
I grin widely and nod in response.
“I think it’s perfect.”
There is a moment of silence between us and I can’t help but stare in awe once again at her beauty. It’s true that the nickname suits her. Her golden hair like the sun, her eyes as blue as the clearest summers day and her lips rosy like roses freshly bloomed.
“It’s a beautiful name for a beautiful woman.” I say gently.
She looks down at the ground and smiles softly.
I watch as she turns around and begins to look around the room once more.
I stand on the spot, just watching her move. Appreciating every little detail about her.
She then takes a seat on the small sofa and points towards the piano.
“Why don’t you play?” she asks carefully.
I turn my head to look at the instrument and shake my head.
“I doubt you’d be impressed.”
She looks a little disappointed at my answer and I can’t help but want to take that feeling away.
“On second thoughts… it could be fun.” I say as her disappointment quickly turns to bright smile.
I walk over to the stool and sit down, placing my fingers on the keys whilst I think of what to play.
I smile to myself as memories of my Mom flood my mind and I begin to play on instinct.
My mom taught me how to play when I was young, my father wasn’t a fan of the idea. In his mind it wasn’t befitting of a leader or of a warrior. So she would whisk me off in secret to this room to practise. It’s surprising to me how easy it is to fall back into the habit despite all these years.
I finish the piece and turn to the side to see my mate, to see Summer, fast asleep. Her head resting on the arm of the couch.
I smile to myself before getting up to grab a blanket from the cabinet across the room.
I throw it over her carefully and slowly sit down in the seat opposite.
Sometime later after watching her sleep contently, I join her, falling into the best sleep I’ve had in days.
***
“So how are you feeling about today?” Natalia asks, passing Summer a cup of tea.
“Okay… I little nervous I guess.” she replies anxiously, looking towards me.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there the whole time.” I say sincerely.
She nods with a nervous smile.
Just then the doctor appears in the treatment room.
“Alpha… Dr Walters is here.” he says quietly.
“Okay.” I reply standing up to go greet her. “I’ll be back in a second.”
I leave Summer with Natalia and Aiden and head out to the waiting area where I see Dr Walters standing with a large looking man and a small thin woman.
I walk towards her and she beams at me brightly as I approach, sticking out her hand to shake mine.
“Dr Walters, I’m grateful that you could come.” I say genuinely.
“Oh not at all. It’s very nice to meet you Alpha.”
“Please call me Sebastian.” I reply as I let go of her hand.
“Okay, Sebastian...” she smiles, picking up a briefcase from the seat. “So the doctor has filled me in on the case… the patient knows I’m coming?”
“Yes she does… she’s a little nervous but over all she wants answers, as we all do… do you think it’s possible for her to get her memory back?” I ask hopefully.
“Well it all depends… amnesia can’t be unique to the individual, especially if it’s psychological.” she states as we begin walking to the treatment room. “I will have to carry out some initial assessments. I have colleagues here to help me with this.”
I cast my eyes over the two individuals following behind Nina. Their demeanour is rather serious. A far cry from her friendly personality.
“Before we proceed Sebastian, I must ask that you do not interrupt the treatment. The process is very fragile and it can interfere with the results. I must also ask that everyone else leave the room-“
“But I promised her I’d be there.” I interrupt quickly.
“I wouldn’t recommend it.”
I let out a breath and nod. It’s not what I want but I’m not about to stand in the way of the professionals.
“Who is inside?”
“My brother and sister in law… I’ll ask them to leave with me.” I say assuredly.
Nina nods before I open the door to the room and walk inside.
“Aiden, Natalia…Dr Walters would like to be alone with Summer. We have to leave.” I say softly.
I watch as Summer’s eyes dart around worriedly as Natalia and Aiden get up to leave.
“Don’t worry… we will be right down the hall.” I reassure her.
She nods sadly as Natalia and Aiden make their way towards me.
Just then I see her looking over my shoulder, a look of complete terror taking over her beautiful face.
She lets out an ear piercing scream as Dr Walters and her colleagues move into the room slowly.
I instinctively move to go to her before the man stands in my way.
“GET OUT OF MY WAY” I demand, the sound of my mates screams filling me with worry.
“Alpha No!! Remember what I said! You can’t interfere! She’s scared because we are unfamiliar. It’s normal. You have to leave. I won’t be able to help otherwise. She will be fine, I know exactly what to do.” Dr Walters reasons.
I try to compose myself as I back out of the room but my eyes can’t help but look at Summer as she backs up into the wall in fear.
“SABASTIAN NO! DONT LEAVE ME PLEASE!” she screams, her words tugging at my heart painfully. Her fear pulsating through our bond ferociously.
“Summer I… it’s going to be okay.” I say as I’m ushered out the room and out into the corridor.
The door is pushed shut and I look down at my hands to see that they are shaking.
