Chapter Five

2401 Words
Alpha Sebastian’s POV  * * * “I knew it was only a matter of time before I heard from you Pierce.”  “Well you did call me first Ivan.” I answer in annoyance, taking a seat in the waiting room with the phone to my ear.  “I guess I did but hey… it’s not everyday the mighty Sebastian Pierce needs a favour is it?” he replies smugly.  I clench my teeth at the sound of his provoking.  “… just get to the point Ivan. What do you want?”  “Hey, hey… is that any way to speak to someone that you need something from? All I require is a simple answer. Why do you need the doctor?”  “Haven’t a clue Ivan, the pack hospital needs help with a patient… now can we stop f*****g around-“  “A patient huh? Who is this mysterious patient that just can’t wait?”  I pinch the bridge of my nose, determined not to lose my temper with this fucker over the phone. The last thing I need is for him to refuse to help.  “Ivan I don’t-“  “Don’t know? Let’s not play dumb now Pierce. Your own doctor already spilled the beans… young woman he says, found lost in the woods. Seems very mysterious indeed.” he chuckles.  “It’s true… the woman needs help and your specialist is the most equipped professional in the area, now are you giving her permission to come here or not?” I snap, inadvertently releasing some of my pent up frustration.  “Woah…” he laughs out loud. “It sounds like you’re desperate. There’s more to this than meets the eye and let’s just say I’m interested.”  “Well there’s nothing to concern you so… the doctor?”  “Okay Pierce, I’ll allow her to come help you out. She will be there by tomorrow morning. Although let’s be clear… she answers to me. She is my pack member after all.” he says adamantly.  “Whatever you say Ivan. Are we done here?”  “For now… let’s just say that you owe me…” he states with a devious edge to his voice.  “Im sure we will come to an arrangement.” I finish, ready to get this asshole off the phone.  “Oh and Pierce… remember you are legally obligated to report the discovery of a missing person… just thought I’d remind you. I’m sure you’ll agree we must get this mystery woman back to where she came from. I’ll look forward to seeing the report when it’s in circulation of the region.”  “Goodbye Ivan.” I answer quickly, lifting the phone from my ear and hanging up.  * * * The asshole has already sussed out that I’m personally invested in the care of this woman. Hopefully he hasn’t realised the reason why…but guessing from his smug as f**k attitude, it’s likely that that ship has already sailed.  I suppose as soon as the specialist doctor gets here, she’ll tell the whole story to him. How long can it really be kept a secret?  When an Alpha find their mate it’s big news. Especially if that mate is a true mate with an authentic bond.  I place the phone in my pocket and stand up just in time to see Dan and Aiden coming down the corridor towards me.  “Seb… Rosalie and Natalia said we have to go and buy your mystery woman some clothes.” Dan says as they come to a stop in front of me.  “Us? Shopping for clothes?”  “Yeah that’s what I said.” Aiden shrugs scratching the back of his head.  “Well I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of the Fox siblings. We best get a move on.” Dan laughs as we head towards the exit.  *** “Maybe this one?” Dan asks, holding up a blue dress and looking back at Aiden and I.  “Uhh yeah… sure.” I answer, rubbing my chin with uncertainty.  “Sheesh, I thought I was bad at this… you two are worse.” Dan comments at he tosses the dress onto the pile on the counter.  “What about this?” Aiden asks, picking up a floral shirt with a large collar.  “f*****g hell Aiden, she’s not eighty f*****g five.” Dan scoffs as I let out a snicker.  “Well I don’t know do I! Don’t we have enough now anyway? Surely the girls can make something of all this?”  I examine the large pile of mismatch clothes and nod in agreement.  “f**k it… I’m certain there will be something in here she will like.” Dan states. “And by the way… I’m taking any and all credit, you assholes were useless.”  I chuckle along as the woman behind the counter begins ringing up the items and placing them into bags.  “Best get that credit card out man.” Dan smiles as the total is displayed on the register.  I pull out my wallet to pay and hand over the card.  I glance down at the bags and hope that we have done a good job here. I don’t want to upset her even further with our s**t outfit choices. Just then I catch sight of a yellow knitted sweater hanging by the edge of the counter. I walk towards it and pick it up bringing it over to place it on the counter.  “Could you ring this up too please?”  “That?… it’s very… yellow.” Dan laughs in amusement.  “I like yellow, I think she’ll like it.” I shrug as the woman hands back my credit card.  We leave the store laden with bags with all kinds of clothes imaginable. It dawns on me that I’ve never really bought anything for a woman before. Well apart from my mom and my sister but that was years ago now.  After arriving back at the hospital we head to the treatment room and a feeling of anxious excitement comes over me at the thought of seeing her again.  It’s only been a couple of hours but it already seems like too long. I briefly wonder to myself if this is normal and decide to ask Aiden later.  As we approach the room, I can hear the sound of laughter coming from inside and the noise is like music to my ears.  “Hey ladies. How are we all doing?” Dan asks with a smile as we walk inside.  Rosalie is fiddling with the t.v remote on the chair in the corner whilst Natalia is sitting at the bottom of my mate’s bed. My eyes instantly go to her and my insides seems to settle at the very sight of her face.  Her skin has more colour to it, her expression is comfortable. The most comfortable I’ve seen her since she arrived.  She is still clad in the hospital gown, sitting cross legged at the top of the bed.  “We are fine! Just watching some tv.” Rosalie smiles before switching it off.  “How uhhh are you feeling?” I ask my mate as her large blue eyes meet mine.  She smiles slightly, nodding a little before looking away shyly.  “Good you got the clothes!!” Natalia squeals jumping off the bed to snatch the bags from Aiden’s hands.  “Yeah we did and I don’t see why you ladies couldn’t have got them.” Dan laughs as Rosalie gets involved in pulling the items out of the bags.  “We had girl time!” Natalia protests. “Okay let’s see what we have here.” she states, spreading everything out over the bed.  She and Rosalie look at each other and let out a laugh in tandem. “Hey!! I did my best! Especially with these two assholes! Who by the way, were no help at all.” Dan counters defensively.  “Well it’s not that bad… there are some nice things…. It’s just a little mismatched but we can work with it.” Natalia smiles, picking up a couple of items.  Despite the chit chat around me, I can’t take my eyes off my mate as she scans over the items silently for herself.  I then see her pick up the yellow sweater from the pile and examine it in her hands.  “Do you like that one?” I ask quickly as her eyes shoot up to me once again.  She smiles slightly and nods, running her fingers over the soft wool.  “I like yellow.” she whispers quietly.  The room falls into silence at the sound of her soft voice.  “Me too.” I reply, taking a couple of steps towards her.  It seems stupid. That something so small can mean so much but for some reason, it does.  She breaks eye contact first, her face flushing a little as she takes in the audience watching our exchange.  “It’s really pretty… it will suit you.” Natalia smiles widely before choosing a pair of jeans. “Here… why not give these a try too.”  She nods gently, taking the items from Natalia’s hands before getting up to head into the bathroom.  As the door closes I turn to look at Natalia who’s eyes turn sympathetic.  “How did it go?” I whisper quietly, my eyes flicking back to the closed bathroom door cautiously.  “She seems happy enough to listen but she didn’t say anything.” Natalia answers. “What’s happening with the specialist?”  “She’ll be here tomorrow… of course Ivan is using it to dangle over my head.” I say, looking towards Aiden who shakes his head.  “Of course he would, Coldridge have always been the same. They never give anything away for free, everything has its price.”  “Not to mention Ivan is a dick.” Dan adds matter of factly. “He’s probably still pissed you slept with his little crush-“ As soon as the words leave his lips I shoot him a warning look.  “Dan!” Rosalie hisses, slapping his arm quickly.  “What? I just meant-“  The door of the bathroom clicks open slowly and the room goes quiet again as my mate wanders in and looks around nervously.  “Wow you look lovely!” Natalia gushes, breaking the silence.  My mate pushes her golden locks away from her face and glances down at the outfit.  The colour yellow really does suits her, somehow it makes her eyes look even more blue I think to myself as she looks at me with a small smile.  “Well… why don’t we go pick up some food? We can meet back here later!” Rosalie states, making eyes at the others who all catch on to her hint quickly.  “Good idea! We will be back soon. You’ll be okay won’t you?” Natalia asks.  My mate nods her head and takes a seat back on the bed as the room empties around us.  Within a couple of seconds the door closes and we find ourselves alone.  The silence between us is heavy, filled with nervous energy which I’m sure is equal parts hers and mine.  “Uhh so you like Natalia and Rosalie?” I ask taking a seat by the bed.  She nods softly.  I fiddle with my fingers as I try to think of something else to say.  Then she surprises me by speaking first.  “Thank you for the clothes… everyone is really nice here.” she says quietly.  My spirits lift instantly and I grin back at her.  “Well I’m glad you like them… I wouldn’t exactly say fashion is my strong suit though.”  She laughs softly and smiles.  “Well I like this.” she says, pointing at the sweater she is wearing.  “It looks good on you.” I reply quickly.  Silence again.  “I wanted to tell you… the specialist doctor, the one who helps with memory loss, she will be here tomorrow.” I say carefully, waiting for her reaction.  She nods yet again and lets out a small sigh.  “I wish she could be here sooner.” I add regretfully.  “I understand… you guys have all been so kind to me when you don’t need to-“  “Of course we need to… I need to and I want to.” I interject quickly. “Well I appreciate it. I just wish there was something I could-“  Suddenly there is a commotion outside the window as the doctors rush down the corridor with another patient.  She almost jumps out of her skin, scrambling to the very top of the bed and pushing herself fearfully against the headboard.  I furrow my brows as I take in her reaction  “Hey it’s alright don’t worry… it’s just the doctors with another patient.” I say standing up to approach her.  Her body heaves up and down quickly, her eyes glued to the closed door ahead.  “I promise… there’s nothing to worry about.” I repeat again.  She looks at me and nods slowly.  I decide to chance my luck, bringing my hand down to rest it gently on top of hers.  She looks down at it before flicking her eyes back up to me.  “Would you like to leave the hospital? You could stay at my house if you’d like.”  Her face contorts slightly before I realise how it sounds.  “I mean… it’s not just my house. It’s the pack house. Dan and Rosalie live there too, as well as lots of others. Natalia and Aiden will be staying, I can give you a room close by theirs if you would like?”  She thinks for a moment before answering.  “I think I’d like that… can I be close to yours too?” she asks shyly whilst gently pulling her hand from mine.  “Of course… of course you can.” I reply a little too eagerly. “Let me go chat to the doctor, although I’m sure it will be fine.”  I walk towards the door before she stops me.  “Sebastian… thanks.” she says softly.
