Chapter 10

WHO SHE IS "Since her mates... who're supposed to show her much love, are not going to do it. The next person or persons would be her family. Good thing her parents and sisters are here," Mel proposed. Tim cleared his throat, looking away. Oscar and Mabel glanced briefly at one another. Only Savvy and Mira maintained their postures. Mel noticed the changes in the people around him. "Did I get the wrong assumption? I am only just suggesting." Oscar took a large deep breath before starting to talk. "No, you're not wrong doctor. Nicole is not our daughter but our niece. She's like a daughter to us because we helped raise her since she was little. Savvy..." Pointing to her. "...is her cousin, and your mate is a good friend of Nicole." "Oh," Mel said with an embarrassed smile. "Don't be hard on yourself, doc. Being a doctor to the pack is as important as any other role we all have here. it's not your fault you don't know much about the members." Oscar gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Do you think we can fill that role for her?" "Well... you could since she's been more with you than with their parents. You're going to be spending a lot of time with her. She needs to feel your presence always. If I may ask, what about her parents?" The sharp decline in Nicole's physical appearance still piqued his interest. Also, as a doctor it was his duty to find out his patient's history. A rejection, even one done mid-shifting or with two mates, shouldn't have this effect on her. "Nicole's been facing trauma from a little age. Her mother died three years after she was born. Her father abandoned her when he couldn't stand the pain of losing her mother. We don't know where he is or if he has gone rogue," Oscar replied. "I am only asking due to my medical obligation to seek out the best treatment options for her," Mel explained. "We understand, doc." Oscar replied. "The speed at which her health changed is unusual for a rejection. No matter how severe it is" He furrowed his brows as the mystery about her condition deepened. "When a wolf leaves it doesn't leave its host like this." Mel said, moving to Nicole's bed, and picking her hand to feel her pulse, which still remained weak. "Her wolf's reaction to the rejection shouldn't make her like this." Savvy, puzzled, asked, ""What are you trying to say?" "Did you get a glimpse of her wolf?" He asked back. "No, she didn't get to that part." Thanks to the evil twins, Savvy groaned inwardly. "I hope it's just an assumption, but I have a feeling her wolf might be special. Just saying." Mel said thoughtfully as he gazed down at Nicole's sleeping frame. Outside the door, in the corridor, stood a nurse listening. At the Ashtons, that same day, Millie and Billie reclined on their comfortable beds, scrolling through their phones. "This sucks," Billie huffed. "I am so bored." "Same here. If I dare go through my phone again, I might throw it against the wall," Millie agreed. Billie pondered, "What should we do then?" "Go out, maybe?" Millie rose up. "Ah!" An idea occuring to her. "How about we visit the alphas." She said in a soft whisper. "It's a Saturday afternoon. They might be at home." "Actually...well, I can't because Vance left this morning," Billie gave her sister a fake shy look. "You slut. Getting some action, hun?" Millie giggled, teasing her sister. Billie chuckled, "I wonder how his brother sleeps through all the noise we make." Millie's smile quickly faded. "I wonder if Vince will ever kiss me. He doesn't seem that into me." She pouted. "He'll come around. I will speak to Vance again about it. Convince him to help persuade his brother to choose you so the equation can be balanced." Millie giggled louder and scooted over to her sister's bed, lying beside her. "Dad and mum are going to be so happy if Vince agrees to be with me." "We would both be Lunas!" Billie exclaimed excited. "The Luna Twins!" Millie exclaimed too. "I like that. We would be like royalty," Billie exclaims as she leaped out of the bed, striking a pose and walking like a princess. Her sister joined her, doing the same. "We would have our own official colours...pink, peach, green..." Her ringing phone made her pause. She picked it off the small table beside her bed. "It's Beth." "What does she want now?" Billie rolled her eyes, slumping back into bed. Millie picked the call, "What do you want?" She looked at her sister. "She has some important information." Billie scoffed. "Yeah, right. None of them have brought in any tangible stuff. What could she possibly have?" Back to Beth on the phone, "We will be waiting." She ends the call and drops the phone back. Millie shrugged and flopped back onto the bed beside her sister. "You never can tell. Like dad always says, 'Every new information has the potential to help us reach our goals.'" Thirty minutes later, Beth, an omega nurse, averagely pretty, petite with sinister black eyes and black hair in a pixie cut, perched on one of the posh lounge chairs in the Ashton living room. Her simple white dress fell just above her knees as she sipped a glass of fruit juice. Her eyes roamed over the exquisitely furnished room, soaking in the luxury around her. Wishing she could have all of this too one day. Well, that day was here with the kind of information she had for the girls. Her days of living in lack was about to come to an end. Billie eyed the omega as they entered the room. "I can see you've made yourself comfortable." She was nothing more than one of the tools the family use to spy on the pack. Especially on the alpha's family. The twins in particular. Working as a nurse in the hospital helped her gather a lot of useful information regarding members of the pack. Beth gave a polite smile, brushing off the insult. She was used to this. However, the information she had was pure gold and she was going to milk them dry. "A pleasant afternoon, miss Billie. Miss Millie." "How may we help you, Beth?" Millie asked as both sisters sat opposite the omega, flipping their long blond hair back and crossing their legs. Suddenly acting like the royals they were expecting to become. Their usual snobbish noses tilted up. "I think this time around, I am the one who's going to be helping you more." Beth replied, her black eyes shining with a bright intensity. "Though, I have always been helpful to your family, I think I am going to be more helpful this time." "You seem to have forgotten how this works," Billie said. "You work for us." Using what her father had taught her about negotions — never allow the other party to get the upper hand, no matter how juicy their offer is. "Be that as it may, but what I have is a game changer," Beth took another sip of her drink, watching the girls over the rim of the glass. "Are you high or have you suddenly forgotten your rank and status? You're just a bloody omega," Millie's voice rose with each word she spoke. "I haven't and never will." ."Then stop being what you can never be and say why you're here," Billie spat out. "Before I do that, I have a request," Beth said in a calm voice, smiling and trying not to show her emotions when Millie spoke about her status and ranking. "The usual will be sent to your account," Billie dismissively stated Chuckling and twirling the contents of the glass, Beth replied, "I am afraid it's not enough for the kind of information I have." Beth set her glass down. "It's something...like I said... it's going to be a game changer for the two of you," she added looking from one to the other. "Concerns us how?" Millie asked. Beth's smile widened. She loved how coming into this secret was going to help her get away, far from here after these two snobbish she-wolves gave her what she wanted. "I believe you have your eyes set on two certain alphas," she arched an eyebrow at the two of them, her smile wider, when she saw the sharp changes in their eyes and body language. Bingo. Millie jumped out of her seat, her eyes set on Beth. "What information do you have concerning them? Answer me!" She demanded harshly. "First, my request," Beth said not moved by the Millie's harsh tone nor flashing eyes. "How can we agree to your request if we don't even know if what you're going to tell us is worth it?" Billie asked. Something about Beth's smug look and act told her that the omega had juicy news. When it comes to the alphas, every information was juicy. Beth slowly, rose up from her seat, took languid steps to Millie and stared her in the face. "I know who their mate is."
