CHAPTER 50

FINALLY! 2 “We are the mates that rejected her,” Vance confessed in a sober tone, Axel whimpering in his head. “You what?!” Drake barked, jumping out of his chair, not minding that he was no longer in power. “Yes…” SMACK! SMACK! The slaps echoed sharply in the quiet room, directing all eyes on Malia’s fuming eyes. She clenched her painful palms, wishing to do more than slap the two of them. “How dare you do such a thing to her?” she snarled at them, her wolf growling in her head, both of them furious and disappointed at the wickedness of the twins. “We raised you better than this.” her eyes drilling into their bents heads. She turned to Oscar and the others, accusing them, “And the four of you kept this from us.” “Nicole wanted it this way, Malia,” Mabel replied softly. “We had to.” “We are sorry,” Vince and Vance murmured, reeling in extreme shame, grasping the weight of their actions on their first day as alphas. The stench of disappointment hung heavily in the room. “Why?” Drake, who had managed to take a seat but still sat in shock, finally found his voice. “Why did you reject her?” The twins clenched their jaws, bracing themselves for the inevitable backlash. Vance swallowed hard before admitting, “We rejected her because we didn’t want an omega as a mate.” “Goddess above. What kind of pups did you give me?” Malia gasped, collapsing into a chair. “You rejected her because she is an omega? You think she is weak?” Drake emphasized the word ‘weak’. “No alpha is worthy to lead a pack if he thinks omegas are weak and undeserving of mates in the upper levels of the hierarchy. And to think that I just handed over the pack to you.” “What would our people think when they hear this? That their alphas believe certain members of our kind are weak? We have always drummed it into our people’s hearts that we don’t tolerate such beliefs. And our own sons are the ones…not the only ones, but together with the likes of the Ashtons, doing the exact thing we are against.” Malia, railed out. Silence reigned in the office as each person battled with their thoughts. “You rejected her?” Drake repeated to himself, still not believing. “Don’t dwell too much on…” Oscar began but was cut short by Drake. “And you call yourself my friend and Beta. You knew what they did and kept it from me,” Drake accused him further. The atmosphere in the room crackled with tension, a once-unshakeable trust now shattered by the revelations. “We value our friendship and Nicole wanted it that way,” Oscar defended his family and himself. “If you did, you would have told me. Do you know the consequences of what they did? What I just did? I shouldn’t have given them the pack.” “It’s still their birthright. You would have given them.” “You don’t understand what Drake means” Malia intervened. “She looked around at the others. “We thought if we gave the pack to them, the Council won’t come after the pack.” “Why would the Council come after us?” Vince asked. “Because it’s a serious crime to reject a mate the way you did,” Savvy answered her. “By giving you the pack, only Alpha Drake will answer for Nicole’s mate’s crime. But now that you’re the alphas, the Council will have a field day with you. A much better and easier opportunity for them to swoop in on the pack.” “s**t!” both brothers chorused, feeling the weight of their actions. “Yeah, we’re in a lot of s**t, thanks to you. It pays to listen in class and read up on our laws,” Savvy mocked. “But the Council doesn’t know about this, right?” Vance said. “Only if that was true,” Drake scoffed. “But no one else other than us, knows. Except Mel and Mira. She’s Nicole’s best friend and Mel is her mate. He doesn’t look like someone who would spread news about,” Oscar said, hopefully. “Dean knows,” said Drake. “That was why I was dealing with him. He came to blackmail me to convince these fools to take his daughters as Lunas.” “How did he know?” Tim spoke for the first time. “Great question, Tim. Good that you found your voice now,” Malia scolded him. “Sorry, Luna,” Tim muttered. “If Dean knows, then his daughters know. Theresa too.” Drake clicked his tongue, nodding. “They don’t keep secrets from each other in that family.” “Could they have a hand in the attempt on Nicole’s life?” Mabel asked, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. “Someone attempted to murder Nicole?!” Vince and Vance roared out. s“Yeah, a bit tardy to the party, alpha,” Malia sneered at them. “While you were frolicking in bed with other females, your mate was getting poisoned with wolfsbane.” Colour drained from their faces at this revelation. “Did you catch who did it?” Vance asked Savvy, choosing to ignore his mother, angry at that his mate almost died. “No, they didn’t. Maybe you two can start from there on your journey to earning the forgiveness of your mate.” “What do you know about what happened, Tim?” Vince asked. “Savvy saw the person, pursued her but couldn’t catch her,” “It’s a she? What did she look like? Do you know her name?” Vince pressed, urgency in his voice. His mind spreading out, searching for possible people who would fit the role. “She is a nurse at the hospital. Her name is Beth, average height, dark short hair.” Savvy answered, spotting a frown. Still beating herself up for losing Beth. “How did she know?” “We will discuss that later. For now, can we talk about moving forward,” Drake cut his son off. “Have you two agreed to accept her…” “We did already,” Vance spoke for the two of them. “We accepted her just before we joined the fight.” “Yes, we did. Mel was there. He even suggested it when she wasn’t healing,” Vince added, corroborating his brother’s words. Drake turned to the others. “That leaves you to help make this dream come true. We love Nicole like a daughter and it will make us very happy if she agrees to be our daughter-in-law.” “Well, as much as we want that, it’s up to Nicole to decide,” Malia said to her mate. “I can’t begin to imagine what the poor girl went through. Getting your wolf and being rejected at the same time. No wonder her wolf is gone.” She shook her head as if shaking away a bad memory. “When did you know she was your mate?” she was guessing the answer.Top of Form The alphas squirmed on their feet, shifting uncomfortably. Their wolves howled in pain, shame and embarrassment. “When we turned twenty-four.” “You truly are heartless. The both of you!” Malia spat, jumping to her feet and walking out of the office.
