CHAPTER 89

VANCE “What the hell was that?” Vince growls at me when he returns. His eyes flash with anger, and his fists clench at his sides, radiating frustration and confusion. “Keeping your distance won’t solve anything,” he continues, his voice sharp with accusation. “Then what do you want me to do? Keep seeing her squeeze her face in disgust at me?” I spit back at him, my own frustration bubbling at the surface. I don’t need him to tell me what to do or not. I am tired of his constant nagging. “At least you can stop your negative emotions from leaking out of your eyes. Man up and stop looking pitiful!” his words sting me, hardening my expression. My jaw clenches in annoyance. “I am being a man by not forcing myself on her. Unlike you, using every opportunity to touch and hold her,” Sneering at him as jealousy flares through me. I can’t help it. Even though he is her mate also, I can’t help my jealousy. “I didn’t ask you to be foolish enough to lose your natural scent to that b***h! Don’t you dare insinuate that I am forcing myself on her. She’s my mate,” his voice rises, his frustration turning to fury. His eyes shimmer gold as Ares surges forward, matching mine and Axel’s aggression. “And my mate too, yet you’re the only one she wants,” growling as I push him, unable to control my envy. He pushes me back, harder. “You’re to blame for that. Not me. You refused to listen. Instead you enjoyed burying yourself balls deep into that f*****g hole! So don’t you dare blame me for your foolishness.” “f**k you, Vince!” I spit out furiously, grinding my teeth in frustration as the truth hits me hard in the guts. I messed up, I know and didn’t need him rubbing it in my face every second. “You think you’re clean? You think you’re so perfect with no skeleton hiding in your closet?” I scoff at him, envy dancing in my eyes and voice. Vince has always prided himself on keeping all his relationships not too close to his heart. None of the girls ever stayed overnight or met our parents. How he kept himself free from all the she-wolves in the pack is still a mystery to me. Not even one. Though I call him heartless, I admire his discipline and principles. “At least I know not to do it close to home,” he sneers back at me, coming up to my face. “I can’t wait to see your face when the table turns,” I wonder if such a day would come when my brother would be in my shoes. “Who says there’s a table to turn?” he laughs lightly, raising his brows and spreading out his arms wide. “We shall see,” I chuckle sadly, starting to leave his front. I have to find Torin who has somehow now disappeared. I need to take him to Billie so we can do whatever he wants to do to help me get rid of her scent on me. I need to be close to my mate. She needs to be protected from Kaden. “Where are you going?” Vince stops me reaching out to hold my hand, but I jerk his hand away. “Let go!” Axel’s voice morphs with mine. “Where I go is none of your f*****g business. Go ahead and enjoy touching and holding her. Maybe she will open up her legs and let you f**k her,” Axel roars at me feeling blindsided at what I had just said about Nicole. Inside, I curse myself for saying so about her. s**t! My envy and jealousy are making everything frustrating for me. Why does it seem that I keep making things worse? Both Ares and Vince snarl at me, followed by Vince’s fist hitting me straight in the jaw, sending my face sideways. “Don’t you ever disrespect my mate like that!” Axel and I snarl back. “She’s my mate too,” yet I just insulted her. What would she have done if she was here and heard me say so? “You don’t deserve her,” Vince spits out each word heavily, his chest rumbling at the disrespectful words I used for his mate. Our mate. Shock ripples through me at the truthfulness of his words. Out of shame, I can’t acknowledge that he is right. Shame washes over me like a tsunami flood. It feels like Nicole is watching me with her soft brown eyes. Sadness and misery fills my heart. “TAKE IT BACK!” I yell at him. “YOU DON’T DESERVE HER! YOU DESERVE THAT b***h!” The words are hardly out of his mouth when my fist connects with his face. “Take it back, Vince,” I whisper-croak at him, feeling Ares breaking through our wall, emerging close to shifting. Ares growls loudly, equally ready to face his twin. “No. I won’t,” Vince declares, his grey eyes totally gold now. In a swift motion, Axel and Ares emerge, and with loud roars echoing all over the room, they jump on each other and we begin to fight. Ares bites down on my shoulder just as Axel’s claws dig into his sides, both of us crashing into the long settee in the living room. “Take it back!” I roar at Vince as he kicks me off him. “She’s mine!” “Unfortunately!” he roars back, springing on me again and swiping his paw across my snout, drawing blood. Axel gives a loud yelp, shaking the pain off and jumping on him, attacking furiously as the fight continues. As the chaos reaches its peak, a strong voice cuts through the air, commanding attention and stopping us dead in our tracks.
