CHAPTER 87

REVELATIONS 2 NICOLE “Come on, let me show you where you will sleep,” Vince says, leading the way towards the stairs. I glance at Vance, expecting him to join us, but he stays back and it stings. I feel a pang of hurt creeping into my heart. Why does this feel like a rejection? I throw him another glance before joining Vince at the foot of the stairs, masking my pain with a neutral expression. Vince waits for me to start climbing before he does, putting his hand on my lower back. “You don’t have to guide me. I can climb a staircase myself,” I grit out to him, not wanting to pour my anger at him. “Sorry. It’s okay, sweetheart. I don’t mind,” I have a feeling this is an apology for Vance’s action. I decide not to reply him, instead choosing to focus on what I will do while I am here with them and how things are going to be between us. The long hallway is painted a cool yellow with neat rows of doors lining each side. Four doors on each side with white doors. Vince’s familiar scent hits me before we reach where I know is his room, momentarily distracting me from my thoughts. Without realizing, I stop in my tracks at his door, inhaling his scent deeply. “You can stay in my room if you want,” I hear a hint of amusement and curiosity in his voice. “Sorry,” I mutter, feeling my cheeks flush with embarrassment as I quickly move away. and drag my feet away from there, moving to the next door where I smell the nasty scent coming off Vance. My face contorts in disgust. “Here,” Vince brushes past me, walking to the door on the opposite side of the hall, in between their rooms. “This is yours.” He opens it, standing aside for me to enter. I step in to look round the room. It’s bigger than mine with a bed big enough for four to five people to sleep on. The walls are painted white with light blue curtains hanging on the windows. A set of blue chairs with two long settees sit opposite the bed with a small glass center table with a potted plant. A huge wardrobe with three separate compartments and mirrors on each door. The middle compartment had an intricate mix of pink, blue and white flower pattern design above and below the mirror. Opening the middle compartment, I see three empty drawers adequate to house a woman’s undies, make-up and other stuff. It looks like a room fit for a couple. Could this be their parents’ room? “Is this your parents’ room?” I ask, despite its emptiness. “No,” Vince looks surprised. “Why?” Shrugging, I reply him. “The design on the wardrobe, the big bed…looks like a couple’s room.” His lips widen into a small smile. “It’s not theirs. Do you like it?” “Nice,” I murmur, turning to another door that I am sure is the bathroom. “Bathroom?” “Yes,” Vince spots a ghost of a smile on his face, looking relieved for no reason. “You like it?” “Isn’t it too big for me alone to stay in?” though the bed offers me enough space to roll about on, since I am that kind of a sleeper, yet I find it strange that they have such a room. “Anything for you.” “Have you ever had guests stay here?” I purposely ignore his words, choosing to ask the question. “Never been slept in by anyone. Everything here is new,” he explains with a hopeful look in his eyes that makes me wonder why they built a new room of this size. “Hmm.” I hum, sinking into t softness of the bed and running my palm over the surface. “It’s soft.” “I am glad you like it,” he walks to me, squatting. “Like I told Torin, you don’t have to make any hasty decisions right now,” he begins. “Take your time to digest everything you heard today. It’s hard learning about what happened to your parents. Accept my condolences,” he gently intertwines my fingers with his, spreading sparks over my skin. Funny that Vince Stone is the one offering me comfort at such a time like this. What happened to the big bad alpha who wanted nothing to do with me? The alpha sitting at my feet and holding my fingers with a genuine look of affection for me is different from the Vince I know. “I know you can’t trust Vance and I right now, but I want you to know that we have your best at heart. We won’t allow that bastard to get you,” he promises, grabbing my fingers tighter with a strong determination in his eyes. His words almost make me chuckle out loud, warming my heart. Vince Stone has my best at heart? It feels so surreal hearing him say such sincere words. A part of me believes him and another part tells me not to believe. Can I truly trust them, despite their sudden change of heart? But they came for me when I called, the only ones who heard my plea. They. My thoughts drift to Vance again, affected by his absence here with me. “Why is Vance keeping his distance from me?” Something flickers in his eyes before he bends his head and looks away. He rubs circles over my palms, clenching his teeth hard. I can see his muscles bulging as he grinds his teeth. “Vance is going through some pretty hard stuff right now, but trust me, he cares for you as much as I do,” his grey eyes pleading for understanding as they peer up to mine. “Okay?” I nod, biting my lips and looking away. “Don’t think about it, sweetheart,” he says before rising to his feet. “Shower and rest. I will get something for you to wear.” “Whose clothes?” jealousy and anger blaze through me at the thought that he was going to give me the clothes of one of his girlfriends. “Relax, sweetheart,” he chuckles, holding his chest. “It’s my clothes.” My cheeks burn in embarrassment again. “Savvy is bringing me some.” “Till she gets here with them, you will be wearing mine,” his face looks the happiest I have ever seen. At the door he turns back to me, his face turning serious. “At the slightest appearance of anything strange in this room or if you notice any strange feeling, do not hesitate to call us. We will be downstairs.” “I will.” “Let me know if you need anything else. I will make arrangements for dinner.” When he leaves, I drop my back to the bed with my legs dangling at the edges. I never imagined I would be spending the night in this place, doors away from my mates. Or that I would be trapped with them because of Kaden. Or that I am an alpha. I scrunch up my face, scratching my nose. What does this mean for me now? Do I have to leave the Firestone Pack and go back to my pack? How do I lead a pack when all my life I have lived as an omega? Wait? Scrunching my face more, something clicks in my head. If I am an alpha, why do I feel like an omega? I didn’t think of this earlier while with the others. Vince enters at that moment with some clothes in his hands. “I hope it will do,” he shakes a sleeveless white tshirt in my face, his scent almost choking me. “The short has a string you can pull to fit your waist.” “Okay. Thank you,” my eyes catch the happiness dancing in his eyes. All just because I am going to wear his clothes. “Everything you will need is in there. Let me know if you need anything else,” he drops the clothes beside me. “I will call you when dinner is ready.” “Sure.” He gives me a small nod before turning to the door. “Vince?” I call him, rising from the bed. “Yes, Nikki,” his hand at the door’s handle. “Thank you,” I felt suddenly shy saying this. “Thank you for coming to save me and for letting me stay here.” He strides back to me, taking my hands gently. “You don’t have to thank us for coming to save you or letting you stay here. We will always save you and you are staying here because this is where you belong.” Seeing my slight frown, he chuckles. “You don’t get it still?” “Get what?” “You’re our mate and Luna. You belong here with us.”
