CHAPTER 34

ALPHA'S AURA Dean Ashton, smiled confidently as he made his way to Drake’s office. A soft breeze blowing his short Anyone observing him right now would notice the joyous in his green eyes, a sharp contrast to what he was feeling inside. His daughters had stomped to him, almost in tears, their arms laden with finger marks, their story the same. Vince and Vance Stone had declared that weak and orphaned omega as their mate and the future Luna of the pack. He had believed that Billie and Vance’s relationship was secure, especially with the way the young alpha had been showering her with attention and gifts. He wasn’t too surprised about Vince, since he never showed any interest in Millie. Proving to be stubborn all these years. Over his dead body would he sit back and watch Nicole steal his daughters’ position and status. He had spent years preparing his daughters for that role and not even the Moon Goddess would dare disrupt his plans. His daughters were beautiful just like their mother. Their long blonde hairs, green eyes, slim bodies and perfect bone structure, set them apart in the pack. And gammas just like him, an important rank among the top three in wolf hierarchy, deserving to be mates to any alpha. Especially the Stone alphas. His daughters deserved to be the Lunas. His family deserved to be joined with Drake’s. He acknowledged a passing member who smiled at him with a mere nod. To him, an omega only deserved a nod, nothing more. Not meant to be associated with unless when needed for things like cleaning, cooking, sending on errands and of course, spying on Drake and his family and other members of the pack. There’s no better power than knowing people’s secrets and using it to blackmail them. Exactly what he was going to do right now. He nodded at the warriors outside the alpha mansion. “Warriors.” Unusually, they rose to their feet, blocking his path. His wolf snarled inside his head. “Gamma,” they all responded casually, their wariness towards him thinly veiled beneath their stares. He wished they could do it with more respect. “Is the alpha in?” He asked, trying to maintain an air of authority as the Gamma of the pack. “Do you have an appointment with him?” their leader, a golden-haired and blue-eyed wolf asked. His blue eyes darkening in suspicion. “When do I have to make an appointment before seeing the alpha?” He employed his gamma voice with a tinge of anger in it, his green eyes also getting darker. He was angry but cautious. There was no way he could take down all of them if things turned hostile. “Alpha’s orders. No one goes in without his say so,” the Delta explained, sending a link to Drake. After a few tense moments, he signaled permission. “You can go in. he’s in the office.” Dean brushed past them, a low growl escaping him as he glared at them. flashing his wolf’s eyes. A promise lingered in his mind—when his daughters became Lunas, he would make them all pay for this disrespect. Standing before Drake’s office door, he raised his hand to knock, the alpha’s Drake’s voice boomed through the link. “Enter.” Dean rolled his shoulders, not one to be intimidated and flashing his best smile as he opened the door. Drake stood by the window, arms behind him, facing away. “Drake.” Dean greeted, closing the door behind him. He glanced round the room, as if searching for someone or something. “Looking for something?” Drake tilted his head with a raised brow at his Gamma. “Nothing. Just enjoying the view as usual.” Dean replied with a slight shrug. “You asked to see me.” Dean rocked on his heels, hands in his jeans pockets. “What’s with the new security protocol?” “Is that what you came to ask me?” Drake turned to face him. “I know you just found out. So, why are you here?” “I was wondering if you’ve noticed something about one of the pack members? Oscar’s niece to be precise.” No point beating round the bush, Dean thought to himself. “What about her?” Drake maintained a stoic expression “She’s not been seen in a while. I noticed, and I am sure a couple of others would have too.” “Well, she could be visiting relatives outside the pack or just staying indoors, minding her business as she always does,” Drake said, leaning against the window and folding his arms. “Or there could be something going on with her that the family is hiding from us.” Drake tried to keep his composure. “Why would Oscar be hiding anything from me? I trust him.” Drake shook off the thought of Oscar hiding Nicole’s mate from him. Dean traced his finger on the top of the chair in front of him, still pocketing his other hand. “Yes, he is trustworthy, since he is a friend. I just have this gnawing feeling that he is hiding something.” “Like what?” Drake fought the urge to lash out at the seemingly pretentious wolf in front of him. He had a gnawing feeling that Drake was fishing for something. And it had to do with Nicole. Did he know who rejected her? “Maybe she’s sick and in the hospital,” Dean suggested, his eyes searching for a reaction from Drake. But as usual, the alpha remained unfazed, not even batting an eyelid. “If Nicole is sick, I would have been informed by Oscar. Nicole is a member of this pack that Malia and I are quite fond of. If anything was to happen to her, I am sure Oscar wouldn’t hesitate to let us know,” Drake asserted, his eyes staying on Dean’s throughout the conversation. “Does that answer your question because I have a couple of questions I would like to ask you as well” “That would be all, Alpha.” “Good. Since you are so observant about happenings in the pack, did you notice we recently had a rogue attack?” Drake unfolded his arms, resting the heels of his palms on the window sill, crossing his legs at the ankles. Observing the eyes of his Gamma fill with shock briefly, noting the subtle twitch at his jaw and the sharp increase in his heartbeat. “An attack? When was this?” Dean darted his eyes around, feigning ignorance. “Last night. Hours ago. The entire pack was under attack and you and your family were nowhere to be found.” Drake’s wolf bristled, his eyes narrowing and teeth exposed in a snarl at the perceived dishonesty of a member who swore loyalty to him and the pack. “I heard nothing. We were all indoors. The girls were probably in their rooms listening to music, you know how girls their ages behave. Theresa and I went to bed early.” “That’s your excuse, Dean?” Drake left the window, walking up to Dean. “Where were you?” “Told you. We were indoors.” “Hmm,” Drake grunted, sensing the deceit. Dean Ashton was always going to be a liar. “You know I can use my alpha voice on you.” Dean pursed his lips, an arrogant look in his face as he stared back at his alpha. “Now, we wouldn’t want our children to think we have bad blood between us.” Drake rose to his full height, narrowing his eyes. “My sons will stand by any decision I make. Especially when it comes to you. And are you threatening me, Dean?” “No, alpha. I am only saying that using your alpha voice could bring the Council here. I am sure you know what I mean.” Drake stood still processing Dean’s words. “I know you are trying to decode what I mean. Good you are, because my daughters would make perfect Lunas for your sons. Something you can persuade them to do so you can keep the Council away and save your reputation and name.” Drake growled loudly, swiftly grabbing Dean’s neck in a tight hold, choking him. “I can kill you right now and nothing will happen.” his claws sank into Dean’s neck, but not deep enough to cause much damage. His grey eyes bore into the treacherous greens of his Gamma. Rather than see fear, he saw a mad confidence in those green ones. Something ticked inside of him at the audacity of this man to threaten him into persuading his sons to take those girls as Lunas. Dean’s eyes glowed wildly at seeing the look in Drake’s eyes. He was making headway after all. “You can’t do anything to me, alpha.” He said the last word with a light slur, smirking. Though his throat hurt like hell, but he wasn’t going to relent. “I know what is going on.” “Do I have to use my aura to make you talk?” Dean blinked at the pain coursing through his entire neck and down to his shoulders, “Do that and the Council will summon you about Nicole’s rejection.” The atmosphere in the office sizzled with tension at Dean’s words. Both remained still, eyes on each other. Drake was at a loss. His sons or the pack? Either way his sons would lose if he agreed to this treacherous Gamma’s request or not. Those girls would never make good Lunas. Unlike Nicole. He was certain about that.
