CHAPTER 63

THE ALPHAS AND THE WITCH “So, you’re saying there was an aura around her?” Drake asked his sons again, his tone laced with intrigue as they gathered in the living room of the alpha mansion, together with Tim. “Faint red and pulsing,” Vince replied, nodding solemnly. “And her eyes had a purple ring around them,” Vance added, his voice carrying a sense of urgency “We think she could be the Firewolf.” Drake’s brows shot up in surprise, his eyes darting between his sons. “That’s going to change everything if she is.” “We don’t know yet, Dad. She may not be,” Vince threw his brother a glare. “Look at the facts, Vince. The things happening to her and around her are unexplainable. First, the witch and now this. Her eyes, voice. How did she beat up Billie like that? She’s an omega, Billie is a Gamma.” He argued, frustrated with his brother once again. “It could just be coincidences. She could just be another wolf or even a witch,” Vince countered, attempting to quell his brother’s speculation. His own way of hiding what he was afraid of. “A witch,” Vance scoffed. “She is not a witch. I am a hundred percent sure she is the Firewolf.” “We need to speak to Torin about this. Only he can tell us more about this topic,” Drake spoke up. “That means we have to tell him everything we know,” Vince noted with a frown. He knew what it could portend for her if she was the Firewolf. “At this point we have no other choice but to do so. It’s our only option,” Vance pressed, challenging Vince to disagree with their father’s suggestion. “Fine, we will tell him everything we know,” Vince relented. “I will send someone to call him.” His eyes stilled as he reached out to an omega to call the witch. “Done.” “That aside, have you chosen a day for your first pack run and dinner? The pack needs it,” Drake asked the two. “Your wolves need it to claim their role in the pack.” “We will have the dinner this Friday and the pack run at the next full moon,” Vance answered for the two of them. “The earlier the better. That’s good,” Drake nodded his head. “We will also have the Beta swearing in ceremony too,” Vince added, turning to Tim who had remained quiet during the discussion. “We hope to have Savvy on board.” Tim clicked his tongue, shaking his head slowly. “I can’t promise that. She’s still adamant about not being your Beta female. Sorry.” “It will be sad to lose her,” Drake remarked, his gaze shifting between his sons with a hint of disappointment. “Have you tried speaking to her about it?” “No they haven’t. Scared she will tell them no. Or scared she will rub it into their faces,” Tim chuckled. “Shut up, Tim, Vance hissed, shooting him a warning glare. “I think you should immediately.” “We will,” Vince assured him, with determination. “But Nicole can help sway her,” Tim offered his help. “Savvy will do anything for her.” “We will go to her after we meet with Torin,” Vance said, planning their next steps. They remained in silence, but the brothers were secretly linking each other. “Can we talk before Torin arrives?” Vance looked at their father. “Go ahead,” Drake urged him, resting his face on his palm, knowing what he was going to say. Taking a deep breath, Vance began, “We can’t imagine the extent of our actions on both your reputation and the lives of all the members of the pack. We did what we felt was right at that time and we are truly sorry, Dad.” Drake looked from Vance to his brother. “You’re right, you don’t know the extent of how disappointed in you two I am.” He removed his palm from his face. “Your forefathers built this pack upon the basis of equality and unity with the dream of it being the best in the entire werewolf community. Centuries of such labour can be destroyed with what you did. Everything can be taken from us. Women raped, forced into becoming breeders, children sold as slaves, s*x slaves or done with as their owners deem fit. Mates never meeting, people going rogue or slaughtered.” He paused, taking in the somber mood in the room. The severity of his words hung heavily in the air, casting a shadow over the room. “We are still hanging on a thin thread, waiting, hoping the damn Council doesn’t find out from Dean or any other person. But what can I do? I can’t hate you. You’re my pups. Always will be my pups.” “Thanks…” Vince started, but Drake cut him off with a stern look. “Don’t thank me just yet. You want to make it up to your mother and me make it right with Nicole by announcing her as your Luna at the pack dinner this Friday.” Vince’s face broke into a pleasant smile, as did his brother’s. “We promise to do that.” “I promise on my wolf,” Vance swore, chuckling as Axel growled at him. “Why me?” “Your mother is going to be happy hearing this.” A knock sounded on the door, interrupting them. “He’s here,” Tim announced, rising to open the door. “Torin,” Tim greeted the witch respectfully as he entered. “Tim,” Torin acknowledged him with a nod before turning to the alphas. “Alphas.” “Come in, Torin. Thank you for coming at short notice,” Drake greeted him warmly, shaking Torin’s hand. “I didn’t get to congratulate you on your ascension,” Torin said, offering the twins short nods of respect. Witches and werewolves had an unspoken wariness between them, but it never stopped them from acknowledging each other with respect, Especially, when it was between the leaders of each specie. “Thank you, Torin,” Vince answered for the two of them. “Hope we didn’t inconvenience you?” “Not at all,” Torin assured them, looking round the faces around him. “I actually love your pack. Never imagined it would be this interesting. So, why am I here?” he asked, rubbing his palms together. “We might need your help. My sons actually will need your help with something that only you can help them with.” Drake explained, the gravity of the situation evident in his tone. “What is it, if I may ask?” Torin asked, his curiosity piqued. “We think the Firewolf is in our pack,” Drake’s word made Torin’s eyes widen.
