CHAPTER 36

1161 Words
HAPPENINGS Vance and Vince spent time on the phone, speaking with the alphas. Despite the urgency in their father’s order, their minds kept roaming towards Nicole. Their wolves grumbling, whimpering and growling at the thought of not seeing their mate. Vince’s mind kept dredging up images of her starving, not eating and falling sick. Wondering if she was still crying. What if she refuses to eat? Or take in anything? “Stop doing that. I am sure they won’t let her stay like that,” Vance chastised him, hearing his and Ares’s anxious thoughts. Which was not different from Axel’s. “I am just worried, man. What if they can’t get her to eat? You heard what Tim said.” Vince said with a heavy frown. Just like his wolf’s. “Me too.” Vance sighed. “Let’s get this done,” Vince said as they resumed the calls. All the alphas agreed to meet in two days, especially when they heard about the attack and the potential lead they had. Only our pack was able to defeat the rogues and the witch. Vince sends a mindlink to their parents, updating them with this information. “Do you think Nicole could be special? I mean, her wolf,” Asked Vance. “I don’t know. Why?” “You heard what Torin said about the fire of Selene? And the mark on her.” Both remained in silence. “And did she shift?” The haunting image of her lying naked and bloody floods my mind, making it run wild with panic and fear. “Maybe, but I am sure she did. The witch had bite marks on her body.” “But her wolf didn’t respond when Ares called out to her.” Vince said, mulling over the fact that, wolves, normally, would respond when their mates reached out to them. Ares had thrown a fit upon finding no trace of her wolf. “Axel too. Only our mate can tell us what really happened,” Vance stated, rising from his seat. “I can’t wait to see her again,” Vince confessed. Leaving her alone had been one of the most challenging things he had ever done in his entire life. “And will give or do anything.” “Me too,” Vance whispered, scrolling through pictures of their mate on his phone. Leaving his seat, Vince joins him, peering down at the beautiful pictures of Nicole. Both looked at each picture with fascination, longing and regret. A huge wave of fear hitting at their hearts. What if she rejects us? “You think she will do so?” Vance asked, looking at the current picture on the screen. Nicole was on her way to school in a short blue skirt that was inches away from her knees and a white tshirt. Her brown hair was let loose over her shoulders. Vince pressed his lips together, swallowing hard. “Not if we show her how much we want her and apologise for hurting her.” He relaxed into the seat, closing his eyes and sighing. Images of the rejection playing in his head. “We hurt her real good.” He whispered, the image of her pained eyes on that day surfacing. Vance pressed the power button on his phone, shutting it off as he also remembered. “I will spend the rest of my life apologizing and making up to her and her wolf.” His eyes closed, images of her writhing in pain on the ground as they rejected her playing in his head. Her whimpers and groans as she was about to shift. The look in her eyes…fear, pain and…pleading. “We hurt her and her wolf.” “We did,” Vince muttered with a loud sigh. For the first time in his life, he felt so remorseful. “We hurt our mate.” Down in the eerie stillness of the hospital morgue that night, in the Firestone Pack, the dead body of the witch lay on a cold slab, covered in white sheet. Suddenly, the quietness of the room is shattered as her corpse starts jerking, emitting a radiant white light from beneath. An unseen force violently yanks off the sheet covering her body, revealing the witch’s bloodied and bite-ridden body, still clad in the same clothes she wore during the intense duel with Nicole’s wolf. Her eyes snapped open to reveal a ghostly white appearance. “Mi ya kina thi ya tha…” she starts to chant, weaving a spell and the bite marks on her body, start to close. Her eyes regaining their normal green tone, albeit with an unfocused intensity. Objects in the room trembled, some suspended in the air, while others rattled where they were. The warm glow from the bright light coming from beneath her engulfed both her body and the room. Slowly, she lifted her body from the slab, her chanting escalating into a wild crescendo and with a deafening shriek, both she and the bright light vanished from the room. Objects crashed to the ground and the morgue returned to its silent and lifeless state. Agatha appeared below Nicole’s window, her green eyes flickering with a manic fervor. An evil smile decorated her face. “You can’t run from me, Firewolf,” she declared before snapping her fingers and disappearing from there. She appeared behind Kaden in his office. Kaden stood with his Beta and Gamma, preparing to storm another coven that his Beta had just discovered. Their shocked gasps and horrified expressions made him more aware of the presence behind him. He knew it was her even before she spoke. Her burnt scent filled the office. “Miss me?” Unlike his men who stumbled and almost fell, finding her to be strange and scary, Kaden simply turned to her. “Already on the hunt for another witch, I see.” His eyes roamed her bloody body and torn clothes in fascination, silently grateful for her resurrection. His mission, momentarily disrupted by her demise, was now back on track. “Thought you were dead.” “She may be strong but not strong enough to kill me. At least not yet,” Agatha boasted as she sauntered to a seat. The Beta and Gamma instinctively recoiled as she approached. “You found her, I presume?” Kaden noted. “I did more than that,” she declared, a malevolent smirk playing on her lips. “I marked her.” Kaden’s eyes widened, his respect for this witch growing. What would he have done if she had been truly dead? “We don’t need the fire of Selene to find her anymore. Or any witch.” Her revelation hung in the air, casting a chilling shadow over the room. Kaden’s lips broke into a broad smile. “I just need some days to get myself back together,” Agatha sighed, closing her eyes and rubbing her temples.
